CHAPTER 310

When the meeting ended, Harmony strutted out like a proud peacock, her confidence starkly contrasting the downcast expressions of the other two anchors.

It was clear who had won the coveted opportunity to interview Professor Cornwell.

As Harmony returned to her desk, she noticed Arianna casually playing a game of poker on her phone. Harmony smirked and decided to make her presence known.

“Arianna, would you like me to speak to Mr. Lewin on your behalf? I could let you tag along during the interview. You might learn something from observing a professional in action.” Her voice oozed with condescension.

Without looking up, Arianna continued tapping her phone.

Suddenly, she exclaimed, “Royal flush!” The screen flashed the word \*Victory\*.

Harmony's smugness faltered as Arianna had entirely ignored her.

Not one to be easily shaken, Harmony sneered. “Instead of grabbing the opportunity I’m offering, you’re wasting time chasing imaginary victories.”

Arianna, unbothered, began a new game without sparing her a glance.

Annoyed by Arianna’s indifference, Harmony snorted and picked up her phone, dialling Professor Cornwell’s assistant. Her tone became sweet and professional.

“Hello, this is Harmony from Starlight TV. I’d like to confirm the timing for today’s interview with Professor Cornwell.”

After a brief pause, she responded, her voice full of satisfaction. “This afternoon at two? Perfect. I’ll be there on time. Thank you so much.”

She ended the call, her lips curling into a triumphant smile.

Harmony could feel the envious gazes of her colleagues around the office, and it only boosted her sense of superiority.

The sting of Elizabeth’s earlier ridicule had lingered for days, making her feel as though everyone had been silently mocking her. But this moment of success wiped away that humiliation, replacing it with vindication.

Harmony had always thrived in the spotlight, both in her career and her personal life, and she wasn’t about to give that up now.

Casting a disdainful glance at Arianna, who remained engrossed in her game, Harmony smirked and turned her attention to drafting her questions for the upcoming interview.

..........

Harmony arrived at the university twenty minutes ahead of her scheduled time, ensuring she was well-prepared for the interview.

Selby’s assistant greeted her warmly and escorted her to his office, mentioning that the professor would arrive shortly as his class was about to conclude.

Ten minutes later, the sound of the office door opening drew Harmony’s attention. Professor Cornwell walked in with an air of quiet authority.

Harmony immediately stood, smoothing her skirt and offering her most charming smile. She extended her hand toward him and said warmly,

“Good afternoon, Professor Cornwell. It’s a pleasure to meet you again. I’ll be conducting today’s interview.”

Professor Cornwell’s eyes flicked to her face, his expression shifting into a slight frown. Instead of shaking her hand, he asked with a hint of confusion,

“You’re here for the interview?”

Harmony’s smile faltered ever so slightly, but she quickly recovered.

“Yes, Professor,” she replied in her calmest voice.

“You mentioned inviting one of Starlight TV’s anchors for an exclusive interview. I’m here to fulfil that role.”

The professor nodded slightly but clarified,

“I did agree to an interview with Starlight TV. However, the person I specifically requested for this was Arianna King, not you.”

Harmony’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of Arianna’s name. A wave of unease swept through her, though she forced herself to maintain a polite demeanour.

“Professor Cornwell,” she said carefully,

“I believe there’s been some misunderstanding. I was the one who arranged a meeting with you last weekend and discussed this in detail. Surely, you remember? I thought I had successfully conveyed my sincerity.”

She recalled the effort she had made to meet him, arranging the brief dinner through his assistant and even managing to secure ten minutes of his time.

While he hadn’t provided an answer during their meeting, his public statement earlier that week seemed to validate her efforts.

So why was he now insisting on Arianna’s name instead of acknowledging her work?

Selby’s frown deepened, but his tone remained composed and calm.

“Ms. Jackson, I’m afraid you’re mistaken. It wasn’t your actions that persuaded me—it was Arianna’s. That’s why I specifically requested her for the interview. I trust her to approach it with integrity, fairness, and a genuine commitment to presenting the truth to the public.”

Harmony bristled at the mention of Arianna, especially when Selby praised her so openly. It felt like a dagger to her pride, stealing the recognition she believed was rightfully hers.

Her smile vanished, replaced by a tense expression. She bit her lip, struggling to maintain her composure. Her voice turned cold as she retorted,

“Professor Cornwell, are you referring to how Arianna helped you avoid the reporters that day? Let’s be honest—she only did that to gain your favour. It was nothing more than a calculated move.”

She hesitated, her eyes flickering with false concern, as though she was weighing whether to speak further. After a brief pause, she lowered her voice and said cautiously,

“Professor, you’re a good person, and I feel it’s only right to warn you. Arianna doesn’t have the best reputation at our company. She’s arrogant and looks down on others, leaning heavily on her connections rather than her abilities. She’s using this opportunity not for the truth but to boost her profile. You might want to reconsider before giving her this chance.”

As she finished, Harmony glanced at Selby, noting his stern expression. Satisfaction flickered in her eyes, though she kept it concealed beneath a concerned facade.

Harmony wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip through her fingers. If Arianna wanted this, she would have to fight for it—and Harmony had no intention of backing down.
