Chapter 28

Amanda helped me with my dress, I had a red sleeveless fitted dress on, she does my makeup and helps me put on my jewellery. The jewellery I had on was diamonds, they were my mum's. my father gave them to me as my wedding gift, it was the jewellery he gave her when he proposed to her when he made his first million. I never wore them, I always just touched them to admire them, I never took them to the house with me, I left them with my father, and I'm glad I did, these are way too precious.

"All done". Amanda said excitedly

"How do I look?". I turn to the guards

Kat replies "You look lovely".

Alvin follows "Beautiful ma'am".

Then Leo responds "Stunning".

I let out a sigh "Good then, thank you".   I wonder what it feels like to look at one's reflection, be satisfied by the way you look, and not just count on the words of people.

The doors burst open " Are you ready?". It was Luther, I nod "Let's go then". He takes my hand, I wear a genuine smile. "Be sure your eyes are all on Violet throughout the night, okay? stay close". He said to the guards, 

They all chorus " Yes sir!".

As we walk to the backyard, my heart was beating like that of the flash, I fear my heart might come out of my chest.

As we arrive I hear applause and the sound of cameras clicking, Luther and I give a quick bow

Before I know it, I find myself alone , the number of people here must be crazy.

"Hello". I hear a lady's voice.

"Evening". I replied with a smile

"You look gorgeous, congratulations on your engagement".

" Thank you so much".

"I hope you don't mind me asking, but why all of a sudden?". My mind goes blank, I struggle with how I was to respond.

" Watch your manners, you don't attack her with that kind of question". I hear a more mature woman's voice.

"Of course, chairwoman Zara". The other lady said with so much respect and fear in the tone of her voice.

I don't think I've heard of her before "Miss Violet?".

She said catching me off guard "Yes chairwoman Zara". Shit.

She takes my hand "I doubt you remember me, your father and I were very close".

" Really?".

She chuckles "Yes, congratulations, really, I didnt think you'd have the guts to do this, you surprise me".

I scoff "I mean, it's not a big deal, remarriage".

" oh but it is, it takes guts. well, we should do some catching up soon, congratulations once again, have a good evening". I give her a quick bow.

There's something about her, something familiar, Zara.


"Drink ma'am?". I decline shaking my head.

I walk around using my staff to guide me, my staff suddenly touch something, or rather someone.

"Watch where you point that thing". A lady said with annoyance

" I am so sorry".

She snaps at me "You should be, imagine that thing pokes my eyes, you're lucky its just my foot, really, where is your help? they shouldn't leave you wandering around on your own".

I tighten my grip, holding my staff tightly "Again my apologies". I turn to leave but then I hear someone else say

" No wonder her ex quickly remarried, who could blame him, I wouldn't even want to deal with that, it must have been so hard for him, imagine taking care of a sick person all in the name of marriage". She starts laughing with her friends.

I take in deep breaths, forcing my tears not to come out

"Ma'am, are you okay?" I hear Leo ask, he touches my shoulder. I don't say anything "Those brats-" I hold him 

"Don't, just leave them".

They continue " oh good, her help is here" they start laughing, the other goes "hey, he's pretty cute. She has a lot of history with handsome men, maybe they have a thing for girls with disability, Nah it's just pity". they continues laughing

I felt Leo's body vibrating, he must be very angry, it's always best to ignore people like this, I'm used to it anyway.

" You sure do have guts considering your situation Tracy". I hear a familiar voice say, my eyes widen "aren't you facing a divorce? this is like your third one right?". I hear the amusement in her voice, that smell of coconut butter, Lexi Boiler. " And Dorothy, you sure do have opinions about the disabled, how about you?, you know what people at your workplace call you?, Miss carriage, how many babies have you lost again?". I hear a woman start to cry "oh my bad, was that too harsh?, saying things like that to your face must feel terrible, especially with people around. Pathetic ". Yup, she's definitely the brat I met at the saloon.

"We are sorry". The women said with their shaky voices. I don't say anything, I hear them walk away.

" Thank you". I said to Lexi

"It's no problem really, I just really hate gossip, it makes my drink taste bad". I hear her sigh "I have to admit, your anniversary is pretty elegant, I like it".

"Thank you". 

"Just stating facts, wasn't really giving a compliment". I scoff

"either way I'm grateful". 





                       LUTHER POV

I see Violet smiling with a lady, I'm glad she's having a good time, Leo was standing right next to her, it's a good thing, with the number of people coming my way there's no way I can be by her side for long. 

"Are you listening to Mr Benjamin-Kim?".

"Huh?". I see the old short man in front of me "uhmm, yea". 

"So when do you think Chad's businesses will be in your possession?, I want to be the first one you think of when that happens". We both laugh

"Of course!" I have been getting a lot of these all night. "if you excuse me, I will just-". Suddenly Kat approaches me

She whispers in my ear "That lady said I should call you over, she said she's your mother". She points at her, my mother was standing next to the food table, and she was looking a bit uncomfortable, seeing her put a smile on my face. 

I walk to her "Evening mother".

She drags my cheeks "You are going with this huh?". 

I whine like a baby "Mother please that hurts" she lets go "are you done protesting against our marriage?". 

She clears her throat "of course not, I just showed up to let you know that". 

I smile at her "sure you did, anyway thank you". 

"Your daughter is furious, and so is Lana, you need to at least talk to them before the wedding". 

I sigh "I know, I will, thank you for coming, I know Violet will be so happy to see you". 

"I'm still mad at her, she's the reason you're doing this". 

"Again, it was my decision, this marriage is real mother, don't worry about it, okay?". I hate lying to my mother but is true though, a real marriage that will last for a year. I check the time "is time for my speech". 

I rush to the stage, I see Violet waiting for me at the entrance, I meet up with her

"Are you ready?" I ask taking her hand 

"I'm nervous, very nervous". 

"Everything is fine, you have me by your side". She smiles at me and I smile at her back. 

We stand in front of everyone, I feel Violet's hands shaking, and I give her a little pat 

I take the mic, The cameras and everyone were focused on us "Thank you all for coming, and thank you all for witnessing our engagement which is the sign of our love for one another". My eye suddenly glues Jesse's, I wear a smirk "I only hope my remarriage to this beautiful woman will be the best kind, I promise to love and take care of her for the rest of my life, I hope this remarriage helps her forget the pain of her past, I promise to do what her ex-husband failed to do, which is to cherish and love her with all my heart, to stand by her side no matter what".  I see the furiousness on Jesses face, looks like he's ready to shoot me, I turn to Violet "I mean it". I see her beautiful violet looking straight into mine, almost like she could see the stupid smile on my face. 

The press start with their questions 
"What do you mean by that?". 

"Will this make you take over her family's business?". 

"How did you guys suddenly fall for each other?". 

"Violet, what are your thoughts? " 


Violet takes the Mic from me "I'm only going to say this, I wish for everyone's support, I know how my situation looks like, I need you all to believe in me, I'm more than capable of what any you think" I nod, that's my girl "I've been through a lot and I'm happy to have Luther by my side, he is the only one that helped me, two years in a coma I was with him, I thank him and his family, I owe it to them". 

She gets shaky "And-and Mr Jack, my driver, he was the one that saved me when our car exploded, I would have died, he is a hero, my hero, I want to reach out to his family, I want to go on my knees, I blame myself for his death, instead of saving himself, he saved me". She starts crying "I'm sorry". 

The press began 

"Why didnt you tell the world she was alive?".. 

"Did you guys really hit a gas tank?". 

"Are you implying the explosion was intentional?"


I cover Violet "That's enough, this is our anniversary party, let's not talk about what will kill the mood, please enjoy the rest of your evening, eat, drink, party". I help Violet get out of the stage. "Are you okay?". I ask concerned 


"Yes, I'm sorry, I'm the one who brought up the explosion and killed the mood". 

"No. It's fine, you have every right to express how you feel". Jesse and Benita appear in front of us 

Benita faces Violet, she speaks "What an amazing speech, tell me, weren't you suppose to talk about how much you adore your soon to be husband?, let me guess, you didn't have what to say about him, instead, you wanted people to pity you, sad". 

Violet scoffed "You sound dumber every time I hear you". 

"Why you little -". She raises her hand I immediately grab it

I glare at her "You better not touch her".  She gulps looking at the crazy look in my eyes.
