Chapter 50

LUTHER'S POV


I enter the building and wore a confident look. As I walk I made sure to give a quick nod to those who greet me, for what I know I'm in the tigers' den. 

I was about to enter the office when I see "Lana?". She raises her head and her eyes widen

"Luther? What are you doing here?" her desk is right next to the office. 

"I work here now, wait, you work for me?" 

She smiles a little "I guess so, I'm the secretary to whoever works in that office. Of course you have others".

I nod "I see. You're fired". I immediately enter the office. 

She storms in "You can't just fire me without a reason". 

I take my sit crossing my legs on top of the table shaking them "How about this, the fact you work here bothers me". 

She shrugs "I don't give a flying fuck. Luther, for once think about me, if not  think of Lisa, how else do I feed her huh?" 

"You can get another job, you are a graduate". 

She scoffs "Yea but this is one of the best jobs, the pay here I can't get anywhere else". 

She's right. But the fact she works here is threatening "okay fine keep your job but pretend you don't know me, don't call me by my name call me sir got that". 

She rolls her eyes "Yes sir". She leaves the office. 

The telephone suddenly rings, I pick it up "Hello?". 

_"Hey Luther, it's Violet". 

"oh hi sweetheart, what's good?". We have to stay in character, especially here in the office. 

_"I should be asking that, have you gone through any documents yet? ". 
 

" No, I just arrived". I check the table and see a file, I open it and see a paper "I see a request to market crystal waters, should I sign that?". 

_"Crystal waters haven't really been approved by the board yet, you signing that will only put us in trouble so you better avoid signing things". 

"Got that, what about Lexi Boiler should I request for her? Or should I wait for you?". 

_"Would you be able to pull it off? I feel you should wait for me". 

"Baby, one thing I'm good at doing is convincing people, so just trust me". 

_"Okay then, I'll get back at you, don't sign anything without confirming from me okay?" 

" Got it, take care of yourself okay, make sure you put an ice pack on your foot, bye". Ends call. 

"What happened to her foot?". I raise my head and see Lana holding a cup of coffee 

"Have you ever heard of knocking?". 

She walks to me and puts the cup of coffee on the table "Sorry sir. I'll put that in mind, do you want me to call Lexi Boiler?" I guess she was eavesdropping. 

"Duh? Isn't that like your job?".

She rolls her eyes and walks away. What if she isn't the only one listening? What if there are others as well, what if I'm being monitored right now, this place could be wired. I should cut off the late-night movies. 

Lana walks in."Sir you have a visitor". 

"Lexi, already? Didn't you just call her?". 

Lana shakes her head "Not her, it's someone else, a kid". 

My eyes widen "Oh yea, bring him in". I called Andrew over this morning. 

He enters the office, he had a good over his head and wore a face mask"Nice place, I see you're now a big deal". 

I offer him a seat "What you saying? I've always been a big deal". He takes his mask off

"So, what do you need me for?". 

"I want you to resume, you'll be working for me personally". 

He scoffs "I thought I'll be working for the lady, you don't look like someone who needs a bodyguard". 

"I don't, but I need you close, you are a witness yourself, if I'm going to catch Violet's killer, I need you by my side you're the only one who knows the killer". 

"That's the thing I don't know what the person looks like, and the person might not be who tried to kill Violet". 

"I know, but so far you're the only one I got, I already got you signed up for school". 

He groans "No.... You can't just pop that up". 

I laugh "You need to get a proper education, you'll be in the same class with my daughter, Lisa, you can help me keep an eye on her". 

He smirks "Is she fine?". 

I glare at him "Don't you dare". 

He laughs "it's all good, when do I start? ". 

"They'll be on summer break soon, so next session, you still got time to prepare". 

He stands up "Okay man no problem, I'll keep in touch, whenever you need me just ring me". 

"You start work tomorrow, better put on that suit I gave you" 

He groans "I thought you said I got time to prepare". 

I laugh "That's for school you dumbass, how old are you again?". 

"16".

I raise an eyebrow "Your ID says 18".

He smirks as he shurgs "I'm 18 in spirit". I take a pen to throw at him but he runs out. That kid. 

The door suddenly burst open, I was about to throw the pen when "What are you doing! " Lexi Boiler exclaims using her bag as a shield 

I laugh nervously putting the pen on the table "Sorry about that". 

She adjusts her hair and takes a seat crossing her legs 

"Nice to have you here, I'm-". 

"Mr Luther Benjamin-Kim, you're quite the catch if I may say". 

I smile "Well, thanks". 

"I know why you've invited me here and I just want to tell you, it's never going to happen". 

"Well that's sad to hear, may I know why exactly?". 

She kisses her teeth looking at me "Well, for one thing, you aren't even fit for the position, your wife is in no position either you guys are like a joke, do you know what people are saying? How on earth do you guys think you're doing? I rather accept Jesse's offer than yours, to be honest, I have no time for this" she stands up to leave 

"Lexi Boiler, you have a lot to say for someone who is in a tight position, isn't your uncle plotting against you? The board also sees you as a joke from what I've heard, they see you as some spoilt girl who's about to inherit everything from her father". 

She takes her seat back "What exactly are you up to right now". 

I smirk "No one has ever believed you're capable of doing anything, even your ex-finance, doesn't he work here though? That awkward secretary to Jesse, what's that his name again. Benjamin". I notice her slightly biting her lips "Your father denied you two and he walked out on you when you told him you could convince him, or am I getting the story wrong". 

She forces a laugh "What does this have to do with me partnering with Y'all?" 

I smile "It doesn't have anything to do with partnering, you see Lexi, I honestly believe you're capable of running your father's business all by yourself, why? Because you are smart, confident, and a badass, people ignore those things about you and see what they want to see, the daughter of a privileged man". 

"Flattering and sweet talk wouldn't change my mind" 

"That's not what I'm trying to do, I'm honestly stating facts, what do I know? I didn't even graduate high school, having you here would honestly make things easier for myself and Violet, and it would give you the independence you want, no one would be able to look down on you just because you're a woman or your father's daughter".

She sighs "You are good, I have to admit. You're right about those things about me. I don't even want to ask how you found out about Benjamin and me. But so far I haven't still heard how it'll benefit me financially, I also look at the money aspect as well". She rests her jaw on her hand that's on the table smiling brightly at me. 

I've got her now.
