Chapter 40

VIOLET'S POV

"We are going to be late if you don't come out of the bathroom young lady!". Amanda whines

" I'm not going!" I exclaimed, I hear her continuously knock on the door aggressively 

"You keep making this job harder than it already is!". She yells

" What's going on?". I hear Leo ask

"Is Violet, she doesn't want to come out of the bathroom, and we need to go, the wedding is tomorrow, she hasn't done her hair, we haven't collected the dress, shoes, jewellery, you name it!". I sit on the toilet

"Okay, just breath, have you asked her why she refuses to come out?".

Amanda answers already frustrated " Yes and she refuses to tell me!".


Leo knocks on the door this time "Are you okay?".

" Yes, I'm fine, I am".

"Amanda, could you give us a minute?".Leo said with an awkward calm tone

" Take all the time you need". I hear the room door shut.

"It's just the two of us, you can tell me what's going on, I promise I won't spill it to anyone". I don't say anything, instead, I awkwardly play with my fingers "are you worried? Are you maybe having second thoughts because you hate the fact that.... it's.....not real?".

I let out a sigh "it's part of it but not fully the reason".

" Then what's the reason?".

"I-i kissed Luther last night.....by accident". He starts coughing 





                    LUTHER'S POV


I touch my lips, why would she kiss me? Could it be that she dreamt of someone? But who? she said don't go, could it be her dad? No way, she can't kiss her dad or the lips or could she, I mean she's blind so, maybe the lips weren't what she was aiming for, her eyes were open, but she can't see. Arrg... Why is this so-

" Are you listening to me?". Gary asks bringing me back to reality, we were sited in a car, in a hidden spot where no one will see us.

"Huh? Oh. uhmm, well". I shrug 

"So all this time I've been talking to myself?".

I laugh nervously "Sorry, could you maybe start again?".

He rolls his eyeball " I can't, just forget it, it's not like it's anything important, just some personal things I've been dealing with".

I sigh with relief "oh good, nothing important". I turn to him adjusting myself on the chair "What does it mean when a girl tells you don't go and kisses you on the lips in her sleep?".

He clears his throat and whispers " You kissed Violet?"

My eyes widen"No, no, she kissed me, last night, she was having a nightmare, and well, things happened".

He smirks "What kind of things?".

" No not that kind of thing, it was just a kiss!".

"Maybe she likes you".

I chuckle " Ha! I wish".

"Come on, what is there not to like, you're tall and handsome and strong, and you have been by her side for a while now, I think it's only natural".

I shake my head " I doubt that Violet can't love someone like me".

"Who said anything about love, I said like".

" Whatever, let's just talk about tomorrow, is your boss coming?".

"Yes, and I fear he has something off his sleeve".

" What do you mean?".

"He's been doing background checks on you, digging out hidden info".

I sigh " I better be prepared".

"You should, but don't worry, I doubt he'll ever get to know about it, you know ".

" Yea". I use my fingers to pinch the palm of my hand 

"What about the kid? Any luck?".

I nod " Yes, I'm just trying to figure out how to bring him in, I might need your help".

"Anything for you, I better get going, my shift is starting soon, good luck at your wedding, hopefully, I will see you tomorrow". He comes down from the car " Too bad you ain't throwing a bachelor party, would've loved to see some strippers tonight". He winks

"Get out of here". He playfully runs away, I laugh










                       VIOLET'S POV

I finally come out of the bathroom and was sited on my bed with Leo 

" Do you like him that way?".Leo ask curious 

"No, goodness no, I don't". He sighs 

" Good then," he said relieved, which I found kind of weird "Then did you dream he was someone else?".

I shake my head "No I didn't, I was having a nightmare and he was right there, and he said some words that made my heart flutter and it just happened".

" Well, it is known that hormones are more active at night so".

"Yes! hormones! That's precisely it". I laugh nervously "There's no reason for me to be embarrassed right? And it's not like he didn't kiss me bac-". He didn't kiss me back, I fall on the bed covering my face with my pillow

"You are getting married tomorrow, you will have to kiss him again, then you'll forget about the first kiss you had with him".

I raise my head up "You think?".

" Yes".

I smile "I guess". I surprise Leo with a hug "Thank you, thank you for listening".

" Don't mention it". He awkwardly taps my back

"I'm kind of glad you know what's going on, at least I have someone to talk to when I have a problem ". We separate from the hug "I better go meet Amanda before she poisons my drink". I try getting down from my bed and miss a step, I almost fall to the ground but Leo luckily catches me

" Are you okay?". He asked worried

I reply in my panting voice "Yea...thanks, I got too excited". He helps me straighten up

" let me help you". He hands me my staff, and takes my other hand "I will escort you". My heart suddenly skips a beat, I smile at him.

Leo seems like a nice guy, I'm glad he walked in on me and Luther the other day, I can tell he's such a gentle soul and he takes his job very seriously.

Tomorrow I'll become someone's wife for the second time, I only hope this time it won't be in vain, and I promise to take everything that belongs to my father, and not leave a penny with anyone.
