Chapter 72
ALEXIA
Noon.
Sunday.
Back at my home, Rayden, Clarrissa, and Alexander came around. Rayden burst into tears when I explained everything to her, I felt her pain. If it was Dylan in this position, I would do the same, even more.
Stephanie was seated on the sofa opposite me, by Alexander and Clarissa's side. Rayden and Dylan sat by my side while I stayed in the middle. Rayden's head rested on my shoulder, looking somber.
'Brendax is going to court tomorrow, I will be his defense Lawyer. The only way we can go about this is by manipulating the whole situation. We won't go ahead with the real story, we will stick to Brendax's initial statement. Tomorrow will be tough but I can assure you we are going to win this case."
'Except the prosecutor is weak and stupid, he can find evidence in Brendax's house. Even Alexia was able to detect what caused her attack." Clarissa chipped in.
Stephanie didn't say a word. I felt like she had more plans than she was telling us. Stephanie looks smart to me, I hope we could win this case.
Next Morning:
It was a Monday morning.
I resumed work first, praying for Brendax even while driving. His case was fixed for noon, Stephanie said we shouldn't come until that time. Dylan had been with her, I'm worried about that though. However, I thought of Brendax first, I shouldn't be thinking about my boyfriend.
Soon, my door flung open and someone walked in. I looked up, it was Kylie who walked in. She looked as glamourous as before. Her blond hair fell in waves on her shoulder. She wore a red dress and back stiletto.
'You are going to lose the case because I go the best prosecutor for Helen's case. Brendax is still on my hate list and I will make sure he goes to jail." She uttered, proudly.
How could someone be so proud of their evil ways? I shook my head, regretting the day I met her and became friends with her.
Turning around, she walked out of my office, and I am grateful for that. I sat back, then took my phone. I dialed Dylan's number but he didn't pick up. I sighed, getting agitated but I kept it at bay. I wouldn't think about my boyfriend being with his ex-fling, they are probably alone?
No, Alexia get yourself together!
I chided myself and then walked out of the office intending to get some air and cool myself down. While walking through the path, my employees around there greeted me and I answered them properly.
I went to the lobby, the employees' lobby where they talk and play during their free time. All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. It was recess, some of them hung around the lobby, and two ladies sat on the chair talking about something that seemed to get my attention, I waited behind them and listened to their conversation.
'How can you trust your man with your friend? Even a jobless and ugly man cheats not to talk of your man that's so handsome and he works from home. Do you expect them not to do anything while you are gone? I cannot believe you, you are so dumb!" One of the ladies with pixie hair talked. I don't recognize her much but she must be working in the PR department.
The other lady seemed to be hurt and sad, she didn't say anything but the expression on her face said it all. Her man must have cheated on her. I didn't know why Dylan and Stephanie popped into my mind, I bit my lower lips impulsively and picked at my nails.
I didn't know why I suddenly felt my heart beat increase, I felt a strange feeling arise in my heart and I suddenly felt so angry. Why didn't he pick up my call?! I was so annoyed, that I didn't even realize Rayden was walking in my direction until she stopped in front of me and tapped my shoulder.
The two ladies also realized that I had been standing behind them. They greeted me and walked away swiftly. I looked at Rayden.
'How do you feel now?" I asked.
'I can't feel good until Brendax is proved innocent ." She gently took her hand to her pale face and wiped the tears that were forming in them.
'He will be, I trust Stephanie," I assured and raised my hand to her shoulder, I squeezed it assuringly and we both walked to my office where I picked up my keys.
Soon, we were on the road to the court. I called Dylan twice again but he didn't pick up, anger gently boiled in my belly just by the thought of it. What could he be doing that made him ignore my calls?!
I tried not to put my worry on my face because of Rayden. Clarissa called and informed me that she would join on at the court and that she was coming with Alexander.
A few minutes later, I pulled over at the court. Cars were lined in rows at the parking lot, I didn't realize people came to court every day until now since I have never been to one before.
We settled in and Brendax was brought in by a policeman, they took him to the defendant's dock. The prosecutor was a man, he sat on the right side of the bench, while Stephanie, the defense advocate sat on the left side; opposite the clerk which was right in front of the judge's high seat.
We waited for the judge to arrive and when he did, I felt my blood tense up. I didn't know what to expect, I didn't know how Stephanie was going to manipulate me. What if the truth comes out? And Brendax gets jailed? I looked at Rayden, she was just as tensed up as I am. I held her hand assuringly, she looked at me and gave a fake smile.
The judge started by banging the gavel. Then the Bailiff stood as well.
'Mr. Brendax Fox, accused of the murder of Helen Allister, also an attempt to dissolve her dead body in hydrofluoric acid." Then the young lady sat back.
'Prosecutor, are you ready to begin?"
Standing up,
'Yes, your honor."
