Chapter 16 – Wolf Sanctuary

Reign

We stayed at the rental property for a few days of peace and quiet. I was still a little pissed at everyone, but I was slowly getting over it. I still needed to talk with Jaz and Ryott, I need to apologize to them. I didn’t mean what I said, and I needed to let them know that. Damien and I spent more time together, we would go down to the pond, talking and learning more about each other. Of course, there were times that he still irritated me but those are things we still needed to figure out. Every time he touched me, the tingles or sparks would course through my body.

“I have a question.” I said as he played with my hair. We were laid out on a blanket enjoying the afternoon breeze. “Ask away beautiful.” He said pushing strands of hair behind my ear. I softly giggled, “why do I feel electric shocks when we touch? And why are you always sniffing me? It’s kinda weird.” I asked scrunching my nose. He chuckled at my facial expression. “Well,” he said pulling me closer to him, “the little shocks are our body’s way of reacting to each other, it’s how we know that we belong to each other.” He explained dragging his fingertips along my arm. I think he loves the way I react to his touch. “As for the sniffing, well scent is the way we find our mate, it leads us to them. It’s a scent that is meant only for me and Ayres which for us is abso-fuckin-lutely intoxicating.” He says inhaling deeply. “Plus, it allows us to scent you, which means that you will also carry our scent letting everyone, especially those dumbass males, know that you belong to us and that we belong to you.” He finished leaning in and place in a kiss on my neck.

“But how do you know what you feel for me is real and not just this Goddess telling you?” I asked. “Those two things just bring us together, it’s up to us to build and strengthen our bond.” He said caressing my cheek with his knuckles. “As much as it would pain me and Ayres, if you don’t want to stay with us, I’ll understand.” He told me. “I can tell you that Ayres will be heartbroken and might go feral taking me with him, but I would never force you to accept us and stay with us.” He assured me. His eyes clouded over for a few minutes as I watched his face contort with emotions. “Is everything okay?” I asked as his eyes came back to their normal color. “Sorry but he doesn’t want you to leave us.” He told me with a sad smile. I sighed, “I…I don’t want to leave you. I feel like I’m supposed to…be with you.” She whispered. “I’m just so confused.” “It’s understandable, this is a lot to take in.” He said trying to comfort me.

“Ry.” A voice called, it sounded like the voice had been crying. I slightly pushed away from Damien’s embrace. I saw Jazlyn standing up against Koltyn, she had been crying so much she could barely stand. Jyden and Ryott were behind them. “Please forgive us, forgive me, you’re my best friend.” She pleaded. “Don’t be angry at me. I wanted to tell you, I really did but…I couldn’t, humans aren’t supposed to know about us, and then my dumbass brother found out you were his mate, and he was supposed to tell you and…” Jaz rambled on. “Jaz, calm down. I’m not angry, I’m…I’m just hurt that you felt you couldn’t trust me with this. I never would have exposed your secret.” I hugged her and Ryott. “I’m sorry for the way I reacted but you gotta admit…” “I know, it’s a crazy thing. Our kind are supposed to be…well…a fairytale.” Jyden chuckled. “Ya think?” I snorted.

Damien couldn’t help but laugh. “This is not funny, you buttmunch!” Jazlyn yelled at him. “Huh, so that’s where she got that word from.” Jyden chuckled. Jaz just gave him a death glare as Damien continued to laugh. “Actually, when you think about it …it is.” He started as he tried to contain his laughter. “She’s not mad because she found out that we’re werewolves, she’s mad that you never told her sooner. Now that is funny as shit!” He finished still laughing. There was silence for a few minutes, and they all started laughing. This was crazy. I looked at them and sheepishly shrugged my shoulders. “I think wolves are amazing and majestic creatures. Actually, I support a wolf sanctuary here in the Hill Country.” I smiled hugging Jaz. “So, tell us about the sanctuary.” Jaz nudged my arm. Before I could say anything, I felt his presence behind me, I felt a calmness come over me. I let out a small whimper, awe shit, I hoped that he or none of the others heard that. “Yeah, tell us about it?” Damien asked as he sat down and pulled me onto his lap. I shuddered and heard the voice again. “Please want to touch mate.” Nera whined. I was going to say something, but I remembered I wasn’t alone.

I felt a nudge again, it was Jaz. “Uuuhhh…yeah. Well, I met Graves, the guy who runs it about a year ago at a coffee shop in San Antonio and we got to talkin’. He told me about what he did, and I ended up visiting a few days later.” I said looking out beyond the pond. “I spent hours with those wolves and fell in love with them, they were nothing like all the myths and stories portrayed them. They were so majestic and gorgeous. A female was brought in while I was there, she looked so scared and confused. I felt so bad for her. She was injured pretty bad; she had been rescued from some roadside zoo in another state. Texas is one of the very few states that have a sanctuary for these wonderful creatures. So, I gave him a check and have been ever since.” I finished. “Reign, why didn’t you tell us?” Jyden asked. “I don’t know. I didn’t tell anyone, not even Mac or Luther knew.” I confessed. “I guess I just wanted something just for myself.” “Well, I think that is awesome.” Koltyn said squeezing my hand and with that squeeze, there was a low growl. I knew who that was coming from, Koltyn quickly pulled his hand away. I couldn’t help but let out a small giggle.

“Mate loves us.” Nera whispered. I thought to myself. “He doesn’t even know me; he doesn’t love me.” “Stop lying to yourself.” Nera said. “What the hell! That’s it! Tell me who you are!” I demanded. “I am you and you are me.” Nera whispered. “What the fuck does that mean?” I frowned. “Remember, mate doesn’t like you using that kind of language.” Nera scolded. “We are one with each other.” “Will you please stop with the riddles. These last few weeks have been crazy, insane and I’m not really in the mood for this shit.” “I don’t know that you are ready for this.” “Fine, don’t tell me but don’t interject your comments.” I snapped.

“Reign, hello.” I heard snapping of fingers. “Huh, what?” I asked coming outta my haze. “Where did you go?” Ryott asked. “Sorry just thinking.” I assured. Jaz leaned in “… your eyes clouded over, were you talking to the voice in your head again?” She asked. “More like she was talking to me. She always has something to say when it comes to Damien.” I huffed. “Hahaha, they usually do.” Jaz laughed. “You should really say something about this to Damien.” She suggested. “I don’t know Jaz.” I hesitated. “Ry, he can help you and maybe when we get back home, we can ask mom and dad what they think.” She suggested. “If you ask me, I think…you may actually be a shifter. “ “What??!!” I snorted. “You’ve got to be kidding me?” “No, I’m not kidding. You say you keep hearing a voice in your head and well, our wolf speaks to us in our head. We don’t have to talk out loud, we just have to think to them.” She explained. “Nera did say all I had to do was think what I wanted to her, and she would hear me.”

“Food is ready!” Moses yelled from a little further away down the pond. Ryott helped me up and we went to join everyone else. Sometimes I hated having dinner with them, I felt like the odd one out. Jyden and Ryott, Jazlyn and Koltyn would cuddle up with each other. They looked so happy; it was disgusting. I scrunched my nose, took my plate, and walked over to the gazebo away from the fab four. So gross. I sat down on the chair in the gazebo to enjoy my meal in the peace and quiet. Well not really the meal, I really wasn’t hungry all that much. “You should really eat; you haven’t eaten much today.” I looked up and there he was, looking down at me with concern. Wow, is that really concern in his eyes? Nah, but maybe just a little. Stop it Reign, I yelled at myself. “I’m not really hungry. I don’t eat as much as they do.” I snorted pointing in the direction of Jyd and Koltyn as they stuffed their faces with food. Damien smiled and let out a chuckle. I put my hand over my heart. “He laughs!” I giggled. He had already sat down next to me and was sitting so close that his scent was so strong in my nostrils. He smelled like cinnamon.

“Mate is with us, kiss him.” Nera, her crazy ass kept saying. When I looked up at him, he leaned in and brushed a light kiss over my lips and then ran the tip of his nose from my ear down to my shoulder and into the crook of my neck. He let out a low growl that sent shivers down my spine and made my breathing erratic. His breath was warm on my neck, he dragged the tip of his tongue along my collar bone, I found myself leaning my head back giving him more access. Being in his arms felt so good…so right. Damn I was gonna have to change my panties. He had one arm wrapped around my waist and his other was cupping the back my head. I let out a low moan, I felt him smile against my neck. He pulled me quickly into his lap, so I was straddling him, oh damn, he’s hard as a rock. His manhood was pressing against my stomach, a whimper escaped my lips. Damien chuckled. “You like that babygirl?” he growled in my ear. All I could do was nod my head. Damien pulled me closer and nuzzled my neck, inhaling my scent sending shiver down both our spines, I held on to him tightly. “You never cease to amaze me,” he whispered. I smiled, “who knows what I’ll do next.”
