Chapter 8 - KC and Friends
Reign
“I’m what?” I asked trying to catch my breath. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I told him turning away to go to my room. “See ya in the mornin’. We have an early day, make sure to review the itinerary.” And I ran upstairs. I could feel his eyes staring at me, don’t turn around, don’t turn around, I told myself.
“Please, just go to him, run into his arms and let him hold us.” My inner voice begged. "Will you just shut up, please?" I snapped at this crazy ass voice in my head.
“Reign, you, okay?” Jaz called following me up to my room followed by Ryott. The three of us were thick as thieves, at least that what everyone said. “I’m fine.” I snapped. “Reign Rose Raven!” she snapped at me. I rolled my eyes at her. “What Jazlyn?!”
“What the hell is wrong with you?” “Nothing is wrong.” “Bullshit!” Both her and Ryott said in unison as we walked into my room. “Just tell her, maybe she can slap some sense into you.” The voice grumbled.
“What did you say?” I looked at Ryott. “I didn’t say anything.” She said with a frown. “Reign, what’s going on with you? We can’t help you if you don’t talk to us.” Jazlyn said pulling me into a big hug. “I wish I knew but I have no idea. I’ve been hearing a voice in my head.” I finally told her. “I feel like I’ve lost my mind. I don’t know maybe the stress is finally getting to me.” I rubbed the back of my head.
“How long have you been hearing this voice?” she asked. “Since we picked up Damien from the airport.” I finally admintted. “Why didn’t you say anything?” she tried soothing me. “Yeah, right and have you tell Mac or Duncan? No thank you! They would have me evaluated and probably committed. I feel like I’m going crazy, and your brother is the cause of it.” I said dropping to the ground and putting my face in my hands. “I don’t know maybe the doctors are right, maybe I’ve finally cracked up.” I sighed rubbing my face.
Jaz let out a snort. “You haven’t cracked up, Damien has that effect on people, but he has an effect on you for a different reason and you know the reason why.” She snickered wiggling her eyebrows up and down. “Jaz…”
“No, stop. Ever since the whole fiasco with Luther you aren’t the same person.” “It’s not because of Luther.” I admitted. “I mean, c’mon! Damien’s like six foot eight almost seven feet, over 300 lbs. and built like a tank, everything I am not. I barely stand at five feet. I am ssssoooo outta his league.” “You are ssssoooo in his league, he’s the one that’s not in your league.” Ryott chimed in. “You may not believe this, but you are who he wants and who he needs.” Jaz said. She took my hand in hers, “And he’s who you want and who you need.” She finished.
Before I could respond, Jyden called from downstairs. “Ryott, babe, we need to get to bed, we have an early day.” “You get some sleep.” Ryott said hugging me. “Comin’” and she darted out. “I better go also.” Jaz squeezed my hand. “Everything will work out.” She kissed my cheek. “I promise things happen for a reason. See ya later.” “Night.” I called after her.
“Awoo, awoo, awoo.” “Hey KC baby.” I cooed at my puppy, well she’s not a puppy but she will always be to me. She was a birthday present from Mac and Bea, for my 16th birthday. She’s a rescue husky and my sidekick. She has traveled the world with me and hates when we’re home because she has to stay home when I go out. "What do you think about what Jaz said, huh girl?” I asked her as I scratched the back of her ear, she looked at me and titled her head to the side with her tongue sticking out.
“She’s so cute.” The female voice said. “Why won’t you just tell me who you are?” I asked. “I really feel like I’ve lost my mind.” “I promise you haven’t lost your mind. I’m only here to help and support you.” “So, tell me who you are if you’re here to help and support me.” “I want to, but I don’t think you would believe me.” “Whatever.” I huffed. “I’m going to sleep so if you don’t mind, please shut up.” She chuckled at me. “Nite, nite.” She said and I rolled my eyes at her.
The next morning, I woke up to KC licking my face, she’s my alarm clock. I have yet to be late for anything. “Good mornin’ KC.” I scratched behind her ear; her tongue hung out the side of her mouth. “Okay, that’s enough. We better get ready, well, I better get ready.” I got up, showered, got dressed and bounced downstairs.
Damien was already in the kitchen. “Good morning babygirl.” He smiled at me. “Uh…mornin’” I said shyly. He watched me as I made my way to the fridge. Every time he calls me babygirl, it makes my heartbeat just a little bit faster. “You’re up early.” He commented. “No, not really. My furry alarm always wakes me this early.” I chuckled as KC came running into the kitchen, sliding across the floor. “Sorry she knows it’s breakfast time.” I pulled out her food from the fridge. “She eats regular human food?” he raised his eyebrow. “Yeah, kinda, it’s that freshpet dog food. It has to be kept in the fridge. She absolutely loves it.” I told him as KC proved me right and devoured her food.
“Damn that actually looks good.” He looked at the bag and sniffed the food. “No judgement, I sniffed the food the first time I opened the bag also. It’s made from the same things we eat, chicken, carrots, beef, pumpkin, turkey, all the good stuff for them.” He examined a piece and popped it in his mouth. “I also give her strawberries, blueberries, apples and watermelon.”
“Hum, not bad.” He said chewing, KC stood on her hind legs begging for more. He tossed her a couple of bites. “Bro, did you just eat some of KC’s food?” Jyden scrunched his nose. “Here try one.” Damien threw a piece to Jyden, but KC jumped and caught it. “Good catch.” He said scratching her head as she wooed at him. Damn even she's crazy about him.
“She likes him.” Jaz whispered. “And she doesn’t take to many males this quick.” Ryott added. “Remember how she treated the guys when we got her home?” “What are you three whispering about?” Damien looked at us. “None ya.” Jaz said sticking her tongue out.
“Let’s go! I’m starving.” Koltyn grumbled rubbing his stomach. “You’re always hungry.” I rolled my eyes. “Well, I’m still a growing boy.” He pouted. “With as much as you eat, I’m amazed you’re not a chunky monkey.” I chuckled. “Really?” he continued to pout. “Hey, just sayin’” I teased. Ryott sighed. “Are you two done? Can we go now?”
“Yeah. I think I’m done.” I pinched Koltyn’s cheek. “KC” I called, and she came running and sliding to a stop. “You crazy girl.” She licked my cheek. “You be a good girl and keep watch, okay.” She barked and took off to make her rounds. “She’s a good pup.” Damien smiled. “Maybe I can teach her some tricks.” “She is a good girl and she’s smart. She’s traveled with me since Bea and Mac gave her to me when I turned 16.” I told him as we walked out.
“Are all of you comin’ to breakfast?” “Yup, when we’re done, a few will come back with us, and the rest will follow all of you on your various appearances.” Damien stated. “You’re in charge, so whatever.” I snipped. He sighed and opened the door to one of the SUVs for me.
“I don’t think so.” I dangled my keys. “You can take the SUV if you want but I’m taking my car.” I grinned. “Jaz, Ryott, you two comin’ with?” I asked. “Hell ya!” they squealed and jumped in with Jaz settling in the front seat.
“Jaz, get in the back, Reign, I’ll drive.” Damien said holding out his hand for my keys. “Yeah right! You get in the passenger seat. You don’t even know where we’re goin’” I told him getting into the driver seat. I turned the car on and revved the engine. I rolled my window down, “Are you getting in or not?” He rubbed his face and walked around to the passenger side and got in. “Let’s go. I’m starving.” He mumbled and I drove off.
“If you’re nice to her, she might let you drive her baby.” Jaz teased. I scoffed.
