Chapter 43: MacAvoy
Mac
“Excuse me, how long until we get to Scotland?” I asked the flight attendant. “Sir, we just took off so we still have just a tad over ten hours, please try and get some sleep and before you know it, we will be there.” She smiled at me. “Mac, honey, please relax.” My wife, Bea, said. “I’m just worried about Reign. She’s been through so much and now she says she needs to see us, that it’s important but doesn’t give me any idea what it’s about and she has a new assistant call me. Why does she need an assistant while she’s on vacation? She better not be pregnant!” I whispered yelled. “Mac! She’s smarter than that!” Duncan snorted. “She’s eighteen and has a good head on her shoulders. Whatever’s going on, we will stand by her and be there for her, even if she is pregnant.” He said glaring at me. “I’m pretty sure that...” I waved my hand. “...asshole has something to do with whatever’s going on.” I commented. Bea glared at me. “Oh stop! He’s a good one, he took care of her after her attack and is making sure she’s safe. I think he’s her one.” She said with a big smile. I looked at her and grunted my displeasure. She’s such a girl, to think I’m the one that hired him. “Besides you hired him.” she smirked at me. She's supposed to back me up, the traitorous woman. “Bro, chill. Give her some credit.” Duncan said leaning back and relaxing. I checked my email and tried to relax. Everyone in the cabin was quiet, including my younger brother, Duncan. “Hun, please get some sleep. Everything will be fine.” Bea soothed. I leaned back, closed my eyes, and waited until sleep finally took over.
“Yo Mackie poo! Wakey, wakey!” Duncan said tapping my cheek. I smacked his hand away from my face. “Do that one more time and I’m gunna punch ya!” I warned him. “Excuse me ma’am could you please bring Mr. Grumpy pants some coffee, he needs to smile.” I rolled my eyes at my stupid ass little brother. I swear our parents adopted him. “How long before we land?” I asked. “Should be a couple more hours. I’ll be right back with your coffee; would you like anything else?” “Yeah, can you shove my little brother out the hatch door?” I scowled at Duncan. “Sorry but no.” She chuckled. “The pilot wouldn't take too kindly to that.” She smiled. “I'll be more than happy to compensate all of you if you do it.” I glared at my ass of a little brother. “C'mon you know you love me.” He blew a kiss and hurried off to his seat. “I'm telling ya, he's adopted Bea.” All she did was shake her head and laugh. Damn woman, she's supposed to agree with me. I sent Reign a text letting her know when we would be landing, she texted back that Spencer and Spyder would be waiting for us. What kinda name is Spyder?
Me: Reign what’s going on? Why did we have to come in person? Who is this Cloie girl? Please tell me you’re not pregnant!
Reign: What if I am? What are you gonna do about it? Cloie is my personal assistant.
Me: Reign Rose Raven! What?! You better not be pregnant! And why do you need a P.A. while on vacation?!
Reign: LMAO! I’m just kidding, I’m not preggo. I don't think I am, at least not yet (hahaha). We just have a lot to discuss. There have been some major developments.
Me: So, you’re not even going to give me a hint?! You know I hate surprises. And please dear God, DO NOT BE PREGNANT!
Reign: Nope. Everybody loves surprises. I gotta go, see you in a few hours. Oh yeah, after you land Spencer and Spyder are gonna take ya’ll to get a dress for Bea and suits for you and D. There’s a huge celebration tonight. Love you! Bye! And some surprises are AWESOME!
I sighed as I looked to my wife. “Bea looks like we are going shopping after we land. Apparently, there is some kinda huge celebration tonight.” I told her rubbing my face. “What kinda celebration?” She happily asked. “Have no idea.” I frowned. She knows I don’t like not knowing what’s going on. “I hate surprises.” I grumbled. “Dear, that’s why we are going to see her.” Bea said patting my shoulder. After four hours, we finally arrived in the small village where Reign is now staying. It really is a beautiful place; it’s surrounded by a dense forest and from what Reign has said there’s a river somewhere around here. I can hear it.
“Mac!” I heard voices call out to me. “Bea, Duncan!” Reign, Jaz, and Ryott ran out to us with the boys trailing behind. Bea held Reign in a tight bear hug. “I’ve missed ya’ll. I’m so happy you’re here.” She was so excited. “C’mon in, we have a lot to talk about.” She said walking us inside the huge mansion. “Babygirl, let them rest and freshen up.” Damien said walking up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist. I glared at him; how dare he call her babygirl. She’s been my little girl for over four years, and he thinks he can just come in and start calling her babygirl?! I don't think so asshole. What was I thinking in hiring him? “Mac, sweetheart, I see your wheels turning, please let our girl explain what’s going on.” Bea tried to soothe me. “No, Mac always wants to get to the point. There’s no point and drag things out.” She knew me so well. “I can see he’s already annoyed, and he really hates surprises.” She eyed me. “And I have a feeling he's not a very big fan of yours.” She looked up at Asshole, that is what I am calling him from now on, Asshole. He stole my sweet innocent little girl from me. She may not be my blood, but she is and will always be MY little girl. “Mac let’s all sit.” Reign said leading us to what I guess is the living room. “Okay Reign, what is going on?” Duncan blurted out as Reign giggled at him. She never giggles like this. “What I have to tell you is not going to be easy for ya’ll to hear. It was hard for me also, but it’s turned out pretty surprising. I’ll need for you to listen and not say anything until I’m done but most of all, don’t be scared.” She started. “Scared? Scared of what? Why should we be scared?” I asked. “Uuhh, I believe she said NOT to be scared.” Duncan rolled his eyes at me.
“First, I’d like for you to meet my grandparents, Ryan and Nessa Rose Raven, my cousins, Noah and Jonah Rose Raven and their girlfriend, Cloie. These are Damien’s parents, Landon, and Becca Hunt and of course you know these knuckle heads. So, long story short, Damien and I are going to be crowned King and Queen of the Werewolf Kingdom and all Realms. My grandparents are the missing King and Queen of the supernatural realms, at least for the next five or so hours.” She stopped and took a deep breath. “My mother was their first born and should have been the one to ascend the throne but my uncle, second born, was trying to force my mom to marry Vampire Alpha King Steven Garan.” “Garan?” I interrupted. “Mac, no interruptions or questions until I'm done, please. Anyway, mom didn’t want to marry him, she had found her one true mate, her soulmate, the other half of her whole. Steven threatened to kill her family but ended up killing pack members and forcing more than half into his pack or clan, whatever he calls it. Martin, my uncle, after forcing my granpa to submit, left him and my grama to continue to run the territory but as time went on, their name, title and power died out and Steven somehow took over. At some point my cousins and granparents started their search for me. My uncle and this Vampire Alpha King only believe in pure blood vampire/wolves, so that’s what led to my uncle trying to marry off my mom to the Vampire Alpha King Steven, who was already obsessed with my mom and now his son, the now Vampire Alpha King has become obsessed with me.” She stopped making eye contact with me and Duncan. “Turns out this Vampire Alpha King Steven is the father to Luther,” she paused a moment, “as in Luther Garan, my former head of security and biggest mistake of my dating life. He’s the one behind everything, he got angry when you fired him and replaced him with Damien’s company. Since his dad couldn’t have my mom, he wants me to be Luther’s mate/wife/Queen and have me provide heirs to what he believes will be powerful vampire-wolf hybrids. Turns out he has bad luck, because I found my mate and we are...wolf shifters or werewolves.” She finished bracing herself for our reactions. “Reign, is this a joke?” After about five minutes Bea was the first ask. I wasn’t sure how to react and to be honest I didn’t know how to react and from the look of Duncan neither did he.
“You said...we? And what is a mate?” I finally asked. “Yes. WE. Like I said, turns out that my mom was a wolf shifter and put what’s called a binding spell on me that could only be broken when I found my one true mate, my one true love. I came to find out that I would find my mate when I turned eighteen.” She looked at Damien. “Damien knew I was his mate because he’s older than I am, he knew that I was his mate when we met three years ago. Wolf shifters find their mates when they turn sixteen and since I am half human and was fifteen at the time, Damien and I were not allowed, as per werewolf law, which is stupid and I am going to look in to changing that, to mate until I turned eighteen, plus I had no idea that I had a wolf. Well, not mate but be told who I was too him. I know it all sounds crazy when I say it out loud. I didn’t believe it either but once Damien and I well...you know.” She blushed, Damien chuckled and looked at her with so much love and adoration. “Mated.” He chuckled. “Yeah, mated, my wolf, Dyanera, made herself known. Well, actually she started making herself known before we mated, she was always talking to me and being a pain in my ass. My mom was born to an Alpha King, and I was born to an Alpha Queen, which is basically a female version of an Alpha King.” Bea, Duncan, and I sat in silence for a few minutes.
“No way! Ya’ll are playing a joke on us.” Duncan laughed. Reign shook her head no. “No?” He sighed as his shoulders sagged. “This is not a joke, I, we, promise.” Jyden looked at us with a serious look. “Come with us and we will show you.” Mr. Hunt said. “I assure you that no harm will come to you.” We sat in silence. “That really doesn’t make me feel any better.” I said putting my face in my hands. “Mac, please.” Reign said holding her hand out. I slowly took her hand, and she led me out to the backdoor to the back yard followed by Bea and Duncan. “Just please don’t yell or scream. You might scare our wolf.” Jaz said with a giggle. “Ryott will be right here next to you.” Bea was wide eyed, but I didn’t see any fear. Five kids that care about and love like my own, have told me that they are werewolves, and that Reign is to become their Queen. I know Jyden like to pull pranks, but Reign and Ryott wouldn’t go in on such a prank.
Ryott stood close by holding my hand tightly. “This is going to weird but also amazing.” She said bouncing on her toes. Before I could ask a question, I heard snapping of twigs or what I thought were twigs. There was a tap on my shoulder, I looked over at Duncan, who was wide eyed with his jaw hanging open and he pointed. I turned and found myself looking into five pairs of eyes, a cold chill ran down my spine. Ryott released my hand and ran to the creatures and embraced a brown and white...wolf. She nuzzled his neck, and he did the same and then lightly licked her cheek making her giggle. “Bea, Duncan, Mac allow me to introduce Damien’s wolf, future Alpha King Ayres, Jyden’s wolf, Beta Apollo, Jazlyn’s wolf, female Gamma Artemis, Koltyn’s wolf, Gamma Kota, and Reign’s wolf, future Alpha Queen Dyanera. Our dad and mom’s wolf are Zeus and Hera. I know what you’re thinking but they have no choice over their names.” Ryott giggled. The wolf that Ryott said was Reign, slowly crawled to us on her belly, she let out a low whimper as she got closer to us. She sat up, tilted her head to the side and gave what I think was a smile because her tongue was hanging out the side. Jyden, Jazlyn, and Koltyn all made their way to us and started sniffing and nudged us to pet their heads. I was still in shock. Damien was the most intimidating one, he was a midnight black color and towered over all of them and us. He never left Reign’s side, where she went, he was right behind her and darted his eyes around the area, like he was looking for something. He watched her closely, nuzzling her every time she looked up at him. We sat on the grass for about fifteen to twenty minutes. Bea was admiring the kid’s wolves. This is just way too weird for me; I’ve got to be dreaming. Each of them, except for Damien or Ayres, whatever, got up, licked each of our cheeks and walked behind the tree they emerged from earlier.
“They’ll be right back, they need to shift back, and they are butt ass naked when they shift, so they need to get dressed.” Ryott chuckled. We heard the snapping again. “Don’t worry, that’s the sound of the bones snapping into place.” She told us. “It’s the way they shift from form to form.” She explained. “Ryott, are you a werewolf?” Duncan hesitantly asked. “No, I am a full-blooded human female. I just got lucky enough to be chosen to be mated to one.” She chuckled and Jyden came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. “I’m the lucky one.” He nuzzled her. They all stepped out from behind the bushes. Jazlyn was walking arm and arm with Koltyn and Reign was in Damien’s arms. “Mac.” Reign called bring me out of my thoughts. “Are you okay?” She asked, she sounded worried. “You never answered me when I asked what a mate is?” I asked rubbing my chin. “Uh, oh…yeah…well, a mate is the wolf version of a human husband or wife.” She said as I looked between her and Damien. “So, does this mean you are married?” Bea asked with a little more excitement than I liked. “Well, yeah. We had a mating and Alpha and Luna ceremony and couple months ago and, in the process, we were bonded together.” She told me. “Bonds between mates are a lot stronger and we are more possessive of our mate.” Damien explained. “So, if she wanted to leave, would you let her?” I asked. “No, I would not. I cannot live without her, and she can’t live without me. There would be no way for us to be ever apart for long periods of time without consequences.” Damien told me as I narrowed my eyes at him. He pulled Reign closer to his side. Reign chuckled and shook her head. “Was there even a wedding?” I asked him. “Yes, there was, the mating ceremony is the equivalent of a wedding ceremony, I mean if I want, I can have a traditional wedding ceremony.” Reign said, she sounded annoyed with me. “Wolf traditions are different from human ones, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t married! Damien and I are bound together for life and beyond, which means that we will not die anytime in the next several centuries.” She huffed trying not to completely lose her temper. Damien pulled her to his chest and hugged her tightly whispering in her ear. I could see her calming down.
“MacAvoy Mason Jefferies! What the hell is the matter with you?” Bea yelled at me. She only used my full name when she was really pissed. “What?! There’s just so much to digest. I mean c’mon! These are kids I have loved for the past three years, and I had no idea that they turned into werewolves! And now, I’m told that Reign is…married to one! OH, OH! And that she’s going to be the Queen of them! FORGIVE me for not really knowing what to say or how to act!” I yelled waving my hands in the air. “Mac.” Reign said putting her arms around my waist. “I know this is a lot to take in, but I am very happy. I have grandparents, cousins, brothers, sisters, parents, and a wonderful mate and husband, who loves me more than I could ever hope for. I just wish that mom had said something to me before she died.” She said trying to assure me. “I don’t know what’s gonna happen music wise, but I want you to know that I am happy. All this is meant to be, please be happy for me, for us. And if it makes you feel any better, I didn’t know about my wolf until I accepted Damien as my mate two months ago.” She giggled at me. She looked up at me and hugged me tight. She whispered, “I’m still the same girl that you’ve loved and cared for these last four years, the only difference is that like Shadow, I turn into a fuzzball.” She smiled and shot a look at Shadow. “Although, I’m just a much more adorable fuzzball than he is.” She laughed and Shadow shot her a glare and a growled. “He hates it when I call him a fuzzball.” She whispers as we walked into the house.
“So, this party tonight…” Duncan started. “Yes, the party, well, more like coronation.” Becca said. “It’s kind of last minute so it’s a small event normally it would have been a weeklong celebration.” She said with a little disappointment. “No mom, this is more than enough for me. Besides, we don’t want anyone to get hurt if Uncle Martin and/or Luther decide to show up.” Reign told her. “You are going to have to explain what Luther has to do with all this.” Duncan said rubbing his forehead. “We will explain everything tomorrow, right now, I have to go and check on a few things.” She kissed Duncan’s cheek then mine and skipped away with Jaz and Ryott and the men were right behind them.
“Speaking of, Mac, Duncan would you please follow me? There are a few things I’d like to advise you of.” Mr. Hunt said. “Uh, sure.” I answered, Duncan and I followed him, Reign’s grandpa and the other man, Luc. “We are going to show you where to go for safety in case something happens during your stay here. My children would be heartbroken if anything should happen to the three of you. Please realize that we do consider all of you family. You are welcome any time, you don’t even have to ask, just let us know when you are arriving so we can make the arrangements for your transportation to wherever we are staying.” He said walking down a hallway. I will need to ask him what he means by wherever they are staying. “Are they moving?” Duncan asked. “Possibly, but we will go more into that after tomorrow.” Mr. Hunt stated as he led us to a panel which he explained how to open and close it. “Should you be told to run and hide, this is where you, Bea, Duncan, the elderly and pups of our pack will come for safety.” He explained. “Do you really think that Luther will try and hurt her?” Duncan asked. “Yes, for some reason his father, Steven, just won’t let go of the past.” Her grandpa started. “Martin, my son, has always believed in the whole pure blood thing, no more half breeds, halflings, hybrids, etc. Reign maybe part human but her wolf is very strong, even stronger than Vampire Alpha King Steven and Luther. Her wolf traits are dominant over her human traits, which is what Steven is looking for. Of course, there is no guarantee that her children would carry these dominant wolf genes at least not with him. When two different species mate and produce a child, they will carry both genes, but one will be more dominate over the other.” Her grandfather explained. “Steven wasn’t born into royalty; he killed the previous Vampire King almost two hundred years ago. I do not know if he has found his mate or not, or if he has and he rejected her. There are still many things we don’t know about him.” Her grandpa finished. “We don’t even know who Luther’s mother is.” Luc stated.
“None of this makes any sense as far as pure blood.” Duncan mentioned. “Isn’t pure that they all have the same blood with no tainting from any other blood? If Reign is half human and half wolf, then that doesn’t make her pure blood.” He finished. “Yes, but Steven believes that because she is of royal blood that that makes her more likely to produce hybrids who will help him achieve his goal of running all the realms and ridding them of those, he deems impure.” Ryan stated. “And unfortunately, my son has been a part of his plan.” He sighed. “Would Reign be coming down here also?” I asked Landon. All three men snorted. “Sorry, no. She won’t. We have gone round and round with her and her and Damien is still going rounds over this as well. She is no longer one to run in fear anymore.” Landon sighed. “Yeah, she can be pretty hardheaded. Even I have gone rounds with her on several occasions.” Duncan chuckled. “Well, I will have a chat with her about this.” I mumbled, really to myself. “Good luck.” Her grandfather snickered. “Mr. Jefferies.” Luc called. “Please just call me Mac, everyone does.” I told him. “Mac, I attend and observe our Luna’s training sessions and I can assure you that she’s more than capable of going toe to toe if need be. We like to make sure that all our high-ranking females can protect themselves in case they are caught without their mates and/or their personal guards.” Luc said. He seemed to be a little offended that I was going to speak with Reign regarding this matter.
“Nadia left her in my and my wife’s care and we...I take that very seriously. I’m sure she’s capable but she’s like my own child, the thought of losing her is not something I’m prepared to face.” I admitted. “Tell you what, before you talk to her, come to one of her training sessions and go from there. See how much stronger she’s become since the incident.” Landon suggested. I sighed but nodded in agreement, with that we made our way back and were escorted to our rooms.
