Chapter 39: Building the Bond
Two Months Later
Damien
“NO! NO WAY!” I bellowed. “YOU ARE NOT MEETING HIM!” “Damien!” My little mate said glaring at me, and I glared back at her. “We need answers. I need answers! I don’t want us to be looking over our shoulders for the rest of our lives.” She told me wrapping her tiny body around mine. It’s been two months since our mating ceremony, we have been by each other’s side the whole time. The only times we aren’t together is when I have a meeting with my dad, the team or when Reign was with my mom learning what her responsibilities will be as Luna. Since our mating and marking our bond has strengthened in a way that I never imagined. We are so strongly bonded that going more than two hours apart causes us to snap a little. Mom said that as time goes on it will get easier but for newly mated couples it’s best not to spend too much time apart. I never thought that I would have a love like this, that’s why having her meet Luther is not an option, I don’t trust him. I can’t lose her.
“Please Damien. We need to do this.” She whispered in my chest. We’d been going back and forth about this for about a month. Luther has been sending messages to Mac that he wants to explain himself to her. I don’t trust him, I know we need answers but the thought of my wife, being in the same room with him makes my hackles rise. But she’s right, I have to come up with a plan to make sure she’s safe so we can get answers. “Okay. I want at least two teams prepped, no three teams. We pick the meeting place; we are going to control every aspect of this meeting.” I demanded. “And you Mrs. Hunt,” I glared at her, “you will do everything I say, NO arguing or questioning. Do I make myself clear?” I told her using my Alpha voice as I lifted her chin, so I know she’s looking at me and listening to me. She hates when I use my Alpha voice on her, I don’t make it a habit of using it on her but sometimes she needs a little nudge to listen to what I am trying to tell her. She huffed. “Fine.” She pouted a little. I loved when she pouted, she juts out her bottom lip and does a downward twitch at the corner of her mouth. When she does that it does so many things to me that I can feel my jeans get tighter. I kiss her bottom lip. “I have a meeting, so I will see you in a couple of hours.” I kissed the top of her head. “A couple of hours?” She frowned. “I will see you in a couple of hours, I promise.” I assured her as we both leaned into each other and inhaled each other’s scent and scented each other. “Alright love birds.” Mom giggled. “Reign, sweetie, come on, we have some very anxious pups waiting on us.” “I’ll find you in a couple of hours, my love”. I brushed a kiss on her lips and mom led her out to the playground.
The pups love playing with her, at first, she was nervous but then they welcomed her with open arms. They fell in love with her immediately. They ended up starting a game of tag and it went on from there, you know like the movie about the childhood friends that have a never-ending game of tag. Well, the pups will pop out of nowhere and tag someone. My dad ended up setting up some rules because the pups chased him around the forest during a visit from the elders. We thought it was hilarious but a few of the grumpier elders didn’t appreciate the fun. A few of the more jovial elders joined in on the fun making sure to tag someone before they left. We also had to make our house and areas of the pack house off limits. They loved jumping out and tagging an unsuspecting pack member who would just end up tagging Reign, me or one of the ranking members, that was always fun. I watched her from my office window while Moses, Shadow and Jenny were arguing over the security plans. They were my three most trusted deltas in charge of our trackers, warriors, and our enforcers.
Jenny turned out to be a rogue assassin, her father was banished from his pack when he married her mom. Reign was very pissed off for a few days when Jenny fessed up about who she really is. Jenny begged her for days for forgiveness, but my sweet little mate can never stay mad at her family or friends for very long. Shadow did some sweet talking on behalf of his mate. One of the good things about having Jenny around is that when it comes to Reign’s safety, Jenny is always on the same page as me. Guys! Jenny yelled slamming her fist on my desk. “I am not going to let Reign show up and sit with that fucker on her own.” She growled. “She wants to do this, fine but I am gonna be sitting or standing right next to her.” She was very agitated. Shadow stood behind her and wrapped her in his arms covering her in his scent to help her calm down. We waited a few minutes for her to calm down otherwise she would be difficult to talk to. Shadow had his hands full with her. “I’m not saying to feed her to the wolves.” Moses said, I shook my head at him. “Sorry pun not intended but he’s not going to fess up if everyone’s around.” He said rubbing his chin. He will know she’s not alone. He said thinking out loud. “I. Don’t. Care. We are going to be the ones who control this meeting. He’s not going to be alone either, he will bring his people with him, and I guarantee you he will be bring his warriors. No slip ups here, no chances. If he dares to threaten, touch, or even look at her the wrong way, he will die! I want our warriors and enforcers ready at the snap of the fingers.” I demanded looking around my desk. “Are we all in agreement?” Everyone nodded in agreement. “You gonna tell her, or shall I?” Jenny snorted a chuckle. “We both knew how she’s going to react.” She keeps telling us to loosen up, that her, Shadow, Spencer and Spyder have been training together and she can help protect herself. I have no doubt that she can, but I am still not taking any chances. “I’ll tell her.” I sighed. “Reign’s going to be pissed but she will have to get over it. I am not taking any chances with her safety.”
Our meeting went a little longer than I had wanted, I started to feel Reign’s anxiousness. I looked back out my window and saw her standing with my mom rubbing her back. “Son, I think Reign is on the verge of a panic attack.” Mom mind linked with concern. “Something wrong with mate. She said something gonna happen.” Ayres growled in my head. “On my way.” I said rushing out to where they were standing. As soon as she saw me, she threw herself into my arms and I held her tight, we both inhaled each other’s scent. Ayres was soothing Dyanera, and I soothed Reign. “It’s okay my love. What happened?” I asked her. She buried her head in my chest, and I heard her say, “I don’t know. Dyanera feels that something is going to happen, not sure what but she’s really on edge.” She said trying to calm herself. “Ayres said the same thing. He’s trying calm her also.” I told her holding her tight. “Baby, the security plan is set. Jenny is going to be by your side the whole time, the rest of the team will be scattered around the meeting site watching his and his people’s every move. If he so much as blinks at you wrong, he will be pounced on him before he can snap his fingers.” I told her pulling away from her just enough to look down at her. “Please don’t argue or fight me on this.” I pleaded with her. She nuzzled into my chest. “Okay.” She whispered. “Thank you babygirl. I just can’t risk losing you or you getting hurt again.” I told her as I ran my fingers through her hair. “I know, I’m sorry. I just want him out my life, our life. I’ve had to put the tour on hold because of his creepy obsession.” A wave of tension flowed through our bond. “Baby, calm down, what do you say we go for a run or just hang on the patio after dinner? Of course, we will have to wait until all the pups have gone to bed for the night.” I chuckled. “That sounds great. I guess we have gotten a little carried away with tag, huh?” She let out a small giggle. “A little carried away. Dad looks behind his back when he leaves the house. Hell, everyone is looking behind their backs and are on alert.” I laughed. “What can I say, we take our game of tag very seriously.” She laughed. Her laugh is so beautiful, I will do what I have to, to keep her laughing, to make sure she’s happy and to make sure she knows how much I love her every day. “C’mon, dinners being served.” She said walking to the pack house. Since we completed our mating process, she seems to have a little more of a sway to her hips, then again it could be because of Dyanera, she loves to drive Ayres crazy wild. Not that it matters, we will always enjoy watching her.
Reign
“Dyanera, behave yourself!” I playfully scolded her. She always loves to tease Ayres, I’ve noticed a little extra swing to my hips, that was all Dyanera. I guess that’s her way of apologizing for all the arguing we’ve been doing about this meeting with Luther. I understand how Damien feels, I feel the same way, but Dyanera is beyond angry, she has been very possessive and protective of me, between her and Damien, I’ve been a little overwhelmed. When we walked into the dining room everyone was chatting and waiting for us, as per tradition, no one eats until Alpha takes first bite. When dad and mom weren’t here, it fell on us but out of respect we still wait for them to take the first bite.
“Excuse me Alpha.” A small voice called Damien. He looked down and saw one of the adorable little female pups that loves to play. “I have something to tell you.” She whispered as Damien kneeled down to her level. “What is it little one?” The little girl, Cristel, put her hand on his shoulder and said, “Tag, your it Alpha.” She giggled and skipped out of the room very proud of herself for what she just did. Everyone sat in silence, I looked at him, his eyes were filled with surprise. “Did she just tag me?” We sat quietly not sure how to react, she was a sneaky little she-wolf. I tried to stifle my laugh but looking at him and the looks of everyone else, I couldn’t help but let my laughter go, along with the rest of the pack. Laughter filled the dining room. “Did we miss something?” I heard mom ask dad. “I believe we did my love would someone care to share the joke.” Dad asked. Jyden finally caught his breath and explained to mom and dad what happened. Dad shook his head at his eldest son, giving him a look of disbelief. “What?! I thought she had something important to tell me.” He grumbled. “I won’t be falling for that again.” He pouted. “Awe babe, but you made her day.” I cooed at him as a small tint of pink made its way to his cheeks. “Can we eat please?” Jyden huffed. “I’m starving.” Dad chuckled and bellowed, “Everyone eat!”
Both dad and Damien’s eyes clouded over; they were mind linking with someone. “Shadow! Get Reign and the females secured NOW!” He yelled as he stood up from his chair. He and dad started rushing out the back door. “Damien what’s going on?” I asked grabbing his arm. “Babygirl, we have intruders at the northern border. Stay here with Jenny and Shadow, they will protect you. You, Ryott, and Jaz go with mom to her room, she has a safe room.” He said pushing me into mom’s arms. He leaned down, nuzzled my hair inhaling my scent and was out the door before I could ask anything else. “Son, we need to go.” Dad told him. Dad kissed mom and walked out after his son’s. “Stay calm sweetie.” Mom soothed as she rubbed my back. “Jaz, Ryott come along, we need to get to safety.” She said guiding us to her room with Jenny, Shadow, Spyder and Spencer following close behind. Spyder and Spencer have been assigned as my permanent guards. I go nowhere without them.
“Something’s not right. Dyanera is restless, it’s something about the intruders.” I said wring my hands together. “Jenny, please, I need to see Damien, something’s wrong. You need to take me to him otherwise Dyanera is gonna break through. Jenny please.” I pleaded. I’d been bugging her since Damien left. Dya’s been pacing and growling demanding to find Ayres. Jenny looked over at Shadow and her eyes were clouded over, they were mind-linking. “Fine! But you better listen to everything we say, everything we tell you to do. Understand?” Jenny growled at me. “Yes, I promise. Thank you.” I sighed in relief. “C’mon, let’s go.” Jaz grunted. “Ryott, you stay here with mom, there will be a protection detail with you. We’ll be back as soon as we can.” Ryott gave a weak smile. We were halfway to the northern border when Damien came into sight. “Reign! What are you doing here?! You need to get back to the pack house.” He demanded as I threw myself in his arms. “Why did you bring her here?” He growled at Jenny, Shadow, and the twins. “It was that or allow Dya to surface and cause chaos.” Jenny scowled. “We chose to bring her to you, you're the only one who can calm her.” Shadow chimed in. “I know I’m sorry but the strangers, who are they?” I interrupted his rant. “We don’t know yet. Dad has them in the cells. I was going to check on you and then head there.” He glared at Jen and the three brothers. “I want to see them.” He started shaking his head no, as I continued. “I need to see them, there’s something about them that has Dyanera on edge.” “What is it?” He asked, “I don’t know, she doesn’t even know but…” he pulled me tighter to him and led me to the cells. “Let’s see what we can find out.” He said as we walked to the cells. “Stay close until we can assess the danger.” I nodded in agreement.
“Alpha, this is no place for our Luna.” A deep menacing voice scolded from a dark corner. “I’m a big girl, I have my big girl panties on. I don’t need anyone telling me where I can and can’t go!” I spit back glaring at the man in the corner. “Reign, this is Uncle Lorenzo...Uncle Renz this is my wife, Reign.” Damien chuckled introducing us. Uncle Lorenzo nodded. “My apologies. I meant no disrespect Luna. It’s just that things can get a little...” He scratched his chin “...messy down here.” “Yes, well, I need to see the strangers.” I demanded narrowing my eyes at him. Uncle Lorenzo looked at Damien with a raised brow. “Don’t look at him, I don’t need my husband’s permission.” I told him standing my ground with confidence. “Looks like you have your hands full with this one.” Uncle Lorenzo chuckled. He extended his hand. “Please come with me niece.” He smiled and led me into a room.
When I walked in there was a man tied to a chair, his feet were chained to the chair and his hands were chained but they were resting on the table. “Are those really necessary?” I asked. “Yes at least we can find out who they are and why they are here.” Uncle Renz said walking up behind me resting a hand on my shoulder. “We still don’t know what kind of threat he or his companions are.” I walked over to the man; Uncle Renz placed a chair at the table for me to sit. “Thank you, Uncle.” I sat down and placed my hand on one of the man’s hands, he slowly lifted his head to look at me. There was something about this man that is very familiar, his scent is familiar. “Do you know who I am?” I asked him. He nodded yes and smiled weakly. “Uncle, please give him some water.” He nodded and placed a bottle of water in front of the stranger. He slowly drinks the water. “What is your name and how do you know me? Please tell me what you know about me?” Damien stood behind me and placed both hands on my shoulders. His touch, love and strength flowed through me giving me comfort.
“My name is Ryan Rose Raven. I am the lost Alpha King of the Supernatural and Werewolf Kingdom and your grandfather.” He said as he took another drink. “The others with me are your grandmother, Queen Nessa, and your cousins Noah and Jonah. We are here to help you.” He said weakly. I approached my grandfather and placed my hand on his cheek, a wave of warmth and love flowed through me, then my mother’s scent overcame me, and I collapsed. Thankfully, my grandfather caught me. “Mama.” Was all I could mumble. “Yes, my sweet child, it’s our family scent, a scent known to all family members. Your mate’s family scent is already starting to mix with our rose scent.” He smiled as he embraced me. I could hear Dyanera purring in contentment. “We have grandpa, when can we meet grandma and cousins?” Dyanera asked softly. “Soon.” I cooed at her. “How do we know we can trust you?” Damien asked. “How do I know you’re not here to hurt my wife?” Damien asked gruffly. “My true heir was my oldest child, your mate’s mother, Nadia, she was my first born.” He started explaining. “But her younger brother, Martin, was so power hungry and didn’t believe that wolves should mingle with human’s or witches, and he didn’t believe in female Alpha’s. He only believed they were good for only breeding. I don’t know where he learned that from, Nessa and I never taught him that. It broke your grandmother’s heart when he started talking like that.” He sighed. “He believes in pure bloods of sorts.” Uncle Lorenzo asked in disgust. “Yes, so when Nadia found her mate, her human mate, Martin was furious. He wanted me to force Nadia to reject him, but their bond was already cemented. When I told him I would not make her reject him, he challenged me for the Alpha position. Being a few hundred years older than him, he overpowered me, and I was forced to submit to him. His first act was to promise his sister to the Vampire King, he was the Vampire King of all Vampires.” He said rubbing his face. He looked so tired; Reign was listening intently. “Nadia stood her ground and denied the mating promise that was made with the Vampire King. Your uncle threatened to kill your father, so your mother agreed to the promise to save your father, but she demanded that she be allowed to say goodbye to her mate. Little did Martin know that she had other plans. She was going to run away with your father. Your grandmother and I helped her with more than enough money so they could get as far away as possible.” He smiled. “That’s how they ended up in Texas.”
“Son, maybe we should move the rest of this conversation to more comfortable place, like the pack house living room. I’m sure they might be hungry as well.” Dad stated as his eyes clouded over, he was mind linking someone. “Come, your mother is preparing for our guests.” Damien looked down at me, I nodded in agreement with dad. “Uncle, please bring all four of our guests to the pack house. Spencer, please help the omegas open up one of the guest houses for them, stock it with groceries and make sure that all warriors know their identities.” Spencer nodded and sprinted away to his duties. Uncle Renzo led my grandpa out and up the stairs. “Come love”. Damien whispered wrapping me in his arms. “Uncle Renzo, Shadow and Jenny will make sure they get to the pack house.” He assured me. “Hop on my back, I’ll carry you back to the house.” He grinned at me. I looked up at Damien, I was speechless.
