Chapter 33. The vampire king part 2
When I had gotten the call that Alpha Damien of the Blue Moon pack was at the warlock Lazarus’ cottage, I hadn’t expected to meet my mate there as well. To be honest I’d given up all hope on meeting the person who carried the other half of my soul.
She smelled delicious but also tainted. She smelt like Damien and also a little like Lazarus. But still absolutely delectable. The moment my vampire smelt her, I knew we had to have her. We couldn’t live without her. And then Damien claimed her as his own. How was this possible, werewolves and vampires cannot share a mate. We worshipped two different gods. This had to be some sick joke.
‘Surround them.’ I linked my guards, ‘Don’t let them leave here, make sure you keep the girl alive.’
The woman must have sensed something, because her eyes looked up to me and we locked gazes one again. Her gaze was intense it felt like she was starring into my soul. And then she commanded me and my guards to stop, and I couldn’t move. I wasn’t use to being controlled. I was use to being the one in control. I could feel my attraction for this mysterious woman growing.
“How do you have such power over me? A vampire king.” I asked her genuinely curious.
She took a moment to respond but when she did her voice was like music to my ears. “I am not sure, my wolf seems to think that I am related to an original succubi”
Hmmm… an original succubi, no it couldn’t be. She couldn’t be the woman from the prophecy’s could she?
“Guinevere!” I heard Damien shout out worriedly, broken from my trance I look up and see the woman, Guinevere, start to fall.
I take off running and reach her before Damien does. She falls against my bare chest, and I feel sparks on my skin wherever it touches her bare skin.
I can hardly breathe with her in my arms. Her scent is intoxicating. My vampire wants to mark her and make her our queen right here and now, but I can see that she already bears the wolf’s mark.
I feel the rage and jealousy growing inside me but I keep myself calm. I cannot risk hurting her. I already love her.
“It’s okay Mi Armor, I have you. You’re safe now.” I whisper into her ear, my lips gently brushing against her face.
“Mate” comes her faint whisper.
Damien is beside us now. He lets out a low growl. He looks pissed, hurt , and confused all at the same time.
I grab Guinevere and start walking with her in my arms back to my pack territory.
“Where are you going with her!” Damien yells at me.
“She needs to see a doctor immediately, something is wrong with her.” I respond, getting more and more irritated with the entire situation.
“That’s why I need to take her home.”
“We’re closer to my pack. My doctor will see to her.”
We cross the lines of my pack territory and Damien comes to a halt. I can see the conflict on his face. Does he go back to protect his pack or does he stay here and watch over his mate. This is where wolves and vampires vary, without a second of hesitation vampires will always pick their mate first, wolves are extremely loyal to their packs, which is why they’re hesitant when they’re faced with a choice between the two. I wanted with every fiber in my being for Damien to choose his pack, but I knew Guinevere would need him when she awoke,
“Your pack will be fine for the moment. Your mate will need you when she wakes. She will wake in a foreign area, and she will be terrified. She may feel a pull towards me, but it isn’t the same as what she has with you already.”
This seems to help Damien make up his mind and he crosses the line onto my territory. I walk straight to my castle and into my bedroom chambers placing Guinevere on the bed.
“The doctor will be here in a few minutes. Is there anything specific she should look for?”
Damien hesitated for a moment, but it seemed like he finally conceded in telling me the truth.
“She’s pregnant.”
I felt a sharp sting in my heart and a sense of betrayal. Not that that made any sense. How could she betray me if she only just met me.
Looking at Damien, I just nodded trying to keep the look of hurt out of my eyes.
“I…I don’t think the baby’s going to make it.” Damien said choking up on his own words. “I… I… can’t he.. hear. the baby anymore.”
I thought hearing that news would give me some relief, but instead I feel my body fill with sorrow, I have the sudden urge to reach out to Damien and to hold him in my arms.
I begin to reach my hand out to grab Damien, but when my fingers touch him I pull away, we both look at each other in shock. What the hell was that, maybe a side effect of the mate bond?
“Eh-hem.” Loralee the pack doctor cleared her throat. “King Vladimir, I am here to provide a checkup.”
“Loralee, thank you for coming on such short notice. This is Guinevere. She’s a Succubus- werewolf hybrid and she is pregnant, she passed out outside after using an extraordinary amount of power.”
“How far along is she into pregnancy,” Loralee asked me.
“She’d be close to 5 weeks.” Damien responded.
Loralee glared at him. But she continued to look over Guinevere, listening to her heartbeat and pushing on her pelvis. She pulled out a hand held ultrasound and started to scan Guinevere.
After 10 long agonizing minutes of waiting to hear the whooshing sound of a babies heartbeat sounding off from the ultrasound machine, the room remained silent. Loralee pulled the device off of Guinevere’s stomach and wiped it off then wiped the goo off of Guinevere before turning to me and shaking her head.
“I’m sorry King Vladimir. The baby is gone. It looks like the baby passed away a few days ago. She took some medication out of her pocket and handed it to me. “Have Guinevere take two of these. It will help her pass the remains of the baby without risk of an infection.
I swallowed down the lump that was forming in my throat. I had just barely met my soul keeper and now I would have to break her heart.
