Chapter 43: Blood Lust

I couldn’t help but laugh out loud when I felt the pull of desire from the soul keeper bond. It didn’t take long for Guinevere to forgive Damien. I knew it wouldn’t, and I’m glad they’re making it. Distractions like mates fighting weren’t something we needed with the upcoming war against Jupiter.

I blocked out the soul keeper bond to give Guinevere and Damien the privacy they needed and headed to the dinning hall to celebrate with the pack. Tonight was a night for many celebrations, the biggest being the merging of the packs.

As I walked into the dining room I was hit with the most intoxicating scent. I couldn’t place the smell exactly but I knew it was my new favorite scent. I needed to devour it.

I felt my fangs elongate from gums. My vampire trying to break free. Drool dripping down my face, from the want to taste, to claim whoever this scent was coming from.

I felt a hunger inside me that I haven’t felt since I was a new vampire and a need to feed that I couldn’t resist. Whoever this person was, I knew if I met this right this moment I’d kill them. I couldn’t risk it.

I fled the dinning hall mind linking Nikolai letting him know that I needed to feed and to start the festivities without Damien, Guinevere, or myself.

“Yes, brother.” Nikolai responded. His tone telling me, he’d ask me more questions later.

The further I walked away from the dinning hall the stronger my blood lust grew. It felt like someone had tied a rope around me and was trying to tug me back while I was trying to escape and run away.

I was losing my strength to resist the monster inside me. And then my senses picked up a low quiet rustle less than a mile away. I could tell it was a young doe. I didn’t want to take her life but I couldn’t risk killing anyone from the pack, it would ruin everything.

I glided towards the sounds of the deer and hunted her down. As soon as I was within a foot of her I leapt in her and sunk my fangs into her throat. I broke her neck as soon as my body made impact with her to relief any pain I’d bestow on her. I prefer drinking from a live creature, but I knew the monster inside of me, wouldn’t be gentle and I didn’t want this innocent creature to suffer.

***point of view unknown***

I didn’t want to be here. I didn’t believe that werewolves and vampires can co mingle. I’d seen too many wolves lose their lives to the carelessness of vampires. They didn’t see us as their equals they saw us as their next meal ticket. Alpha Damien had made a mistake. It wasn’t like him to make mistakes. He was a careful, well calculated and he always put the pack first. This merger must have been a compromise that the Alpha had to have made with the Vampire King. A wolf would do anything for their mate. Even if it meant sharing them with someone he loathed.

“Come on Myra, stop glaring at yourself in the mirror. It’s just dinner.” My best friend Lucy chided me.

“Maybe our last meal.” I rolled my eyes dramatically so Lucy could catch it.

“The war between the wolves and the vampires is decades old. And no one has been killed on either side since the war ended. It’s about time our pack was combined.” Lucy said while applying the last of her mascara, giving herself a once over in the mirror.

I just shook my head at the naivety that is my best friend. The last known reported death was decades ago. But how did we know that the vampires wanted to exist in peace. We only had the word of the Vampire King Vladimir. And as far as I was concerned his word meant nothing. I owed him nothing.

“Are you really going to dinner like that?” Lucy asked giving me a once over. “What if you meet your mate tonight?”

I laughed at Lucy, she was such a romantic.

“Luce, I’ve met all the wolves in the pack. My mate isn’t here.”

Lucy mumbled under her breath but I still heard her. “I wasn’t talking about the wolves.”

I chose to ignore her. I knew more and more wolves were mating with other magical species but I refused to believe my mate was a vampire.

I gave myself a once over before shrugging in the mirror. My appearance was just fine. I was dressed in my favorite pair of black ripped skinny jeans and I had on a deep red tank top with black writing on it that said bite me and yes I chose the shirt specifically for this evening, pun intended. My outfit was finished off with a pair of red converse and my hair was in a messy bun. I looked like me. If I did meet my mate, I didn’t want him or her to see me as anyone that I wasn’t.

“Alright, let’s go to dinner. I’m famished.”

Lucy threw her hands up in defeat and shook her head at me sighing before leaving the room.

As soon as we entered the hall I was hit with the most tantalizing smell. It made my entire body ache with want or need.

Fuck, my mate was here.

My wolf Elizabeth was going crazy in my head she wanted to meet the person behind this smell.

I kept telling myself I had no interest in meeting whoever this scent belonged to, but my body was telling me something else as it started walking towards the smell.

I turned to tell Lucy I’d be back, but she was already engaged in conversation with someone I hadn’t met you.

Shrugging I wandered towards the scent, figuring if Lucy wanted to get in touch, she could mind link me. I was on the outskirts of the dinning hall when I realized the scent was coming from the forest. Whoever this scent belonged to must’ve wandered off leaving the dinning hall.

The urge to meet the person this scent belonged too grew stronger. I quickly walked out of the dinning hall and took off sprinting in the direction the smell was coming from.

My entire body was engulfed in the scent by the time I had finally slowed down from my sprint.

Looking ahead I spotted who the smell was coming from. Perched on top of a dead deer was the vampire king Vladimir. I could see him feeding off the doe. I should’ve been repulsed, but instead I felt a strange sensation overcome my body. Watching him feed was turning me on.

Feeling disgusted in myself I forced my body to turn and to walk away. As I turned my foot came down on a stick and a loud crunch was heard.

Vladimir jerked his head up and starred right in my direction, his eyes glowing a bright red.

“Fuck.”
