Chapter 45: And so it begins

***Guinevere***

I woke up in the middle of the night feeling restless. I felt like I was being watched and I shivered as a chill went down my back.

‘Something isn’t right.’ Sabrina whispered quietly.

‘Someone dark is approaching.’ Sierra said ominously.

‘Jupiter?’ I asked them both.

‘I’m not sure.’ Sierra replied, ‘the aura doesn’t feel like his.’

‘It doesn’t smell like Jupiter.’ Sabrina said. ‘I know his scent and I remember it.’

‘Jupiter should’ve been here by now.’ I said anxiously, my hand going to my mouth mindlessly as I began chewing on my nails. It was a bad habit that I thought I had broken.

‘He’s waiting patiently. He can see that the pack is getting stronger. He won’t attack yet. He’ll attack when we least expect it.’ Sabrina responded. ‘He wants us at our weakest. He wants an easy slaughter.’

‘Well he isn’t going to…’ “Ahhh” I let out a scream of pain. My body felt someone was stabbing me repeatedly with pins and needles.

“Guinevere!” Damien shot up out of bed. “What’s wrong?” He said grabbing me and looking me over, not seeing any sign of physical pain.

“It hurts.” I cried.

At that same moment, Damien received a mindlink from his Beta Alex.

‘The dinning hall has been bombed. There are several casualties.’

“Guinevere!” Damien shouted. “It’s the link to the pack. Shut it off.”

“I can’t.” I cried. “So much pain. So much suffering. It’s too much!” I bent in half clutching my stomach crying in pain unable to do anything to help my fallen comrades.

I felt Sierra and Sabrina both pushing forward for control. Trying to help ease the pain and then I felt when my mind split, I was thrown back and half my body was controlled by Sabrina and the other half by Sierra. I followed the darkness reeling in its comfort, all the pain leaving me. It felt like a good place to stay awhile.

***Damien***

I woke up to Guinevere’s screams. There wasn’t anything I could do to console her. I hadn’t taught her how to shut off the pack link and she felt everyone in the dinning hall die, every single injury that was inflicted on the wolves and the vampires.

I watched in horror as Guinevere pleaded for the pain to go away. I also watched as Guinevere’s mind split into two. I could see Sabrina and Sierra push themselves forward to save Guinevere from the pain, and in doing so they both ended up taking control.

“Someone is here.” Sabrina said sniffing the air.

“The dark presence has gotten closer. They’re right outside the door.” Sierra said.

It was weird, watching Guinevere talking to herself but I didn’t have time to think about right now, they’d just said something about a dark presence.

“Jupiter?” I ask them.

“No. Not him. Someone else.”

“Okay, if it’s not Jupiter then who is it.”

“His watchdog.” Sierra said, her eye glowing brighter with power.

“Gather all the females, elderly, and children. Take them to the dungeons inside Vladimir’s castle. It’s the safest space for them.” I commanded them.

“No.” They both said in unison. “You cannot battle his watch dog. You won’t survive.”

“I cant risk my mate!” I yelled at them in anguish.

“Damien.” Sabrina’s voice taking over as she stepped forward. I was reborn for this war. Sierra Was reborn for this war.”

She reached her hands up and stroked my cheek, calming Leo inside me.

“These two weeks you’ve been gone, Guinevere and I have practiced hard with the moon goddess we’ve unlocked our powers, hidden deep within. We are ready for this fight.” Sabrina responded.

“Damien,” Sierra said taking over, “Find Vladimir, gather the warriors, have the children and the elderly sent to the dungeon. If Jupiter has sent his watchdog, he isn’t far behind him. This war is happening sooner rather than later.”

The dark aura around us continued to grow stronger.

“It is time, Damien. You must leave now and warn the others.”

I grabbed Guinevere and pulled her towards me, even if her spirits had control, she was still there. I pulled her in and kissed her with urgency. Letting her know that I loved her and that I would be back for her.

Sabrina and Sierra were right. If the others weren’t alerted and if we weren’t prepared, then Jupiter would have no problem wiping us all out.

I hurried out the back door shifting into Leo as I made my way to the dinning hall.

***STEPHANIE.***

I sat in the forest watching as Damien took Guinevere in his arms and kissed her longingly. I watched as he brought her into the new home he’d built for them. That filthy whore. She was living my life! I’d get rid of her and every other filthy fanger and traitor wolf in this pack.

Damien would be mine. I’d struck a deal with a stranger, I’d met outside the original Blue Moon pack territory. He told me he could give me the life I always wanted. All I had to do was create a distraction and then he’d go in and take care of the rest. He’d promised me he’d leave Damien for me. Knowing I couldn’t take down Guinevere or her supports by myself I took him up on his offer. Which is why I was here now watching Damien with that whore.

Turning away from them, I make my way back to the dinning hall. I look around, and make sure no one has followed me. I quickly get to work setting up the pipe-bomb I was instructed to plant.

I glance at my watch. And set the timer. It’s set to go off fifteen minutes into the main course. Almost the entire pack should be there. It would cause the perfect amount of chaos.

I hurried over to our meeting point and waited for Griffin. He’d take care of the rest.

Hearing a noise behind me I turn to see Griffin. He’s wearing a pair of black slacks and a tshirt. He’s come alone.

“Is the job done?” He asks taking additional steps until he’s standing right in front of me.

“Yes.” I rolled my eyes. I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t done my part. “ I’ve held up my end, now it’s your turn to hold up yours.”

He takes another step closer to me, starting to feel uncomfortable I try to take a step back, but it’s too late. Before I can react he’s plunged his fist into my chest, grabbing my heart.

“Jupiter sends his gratitude for completing the mission, “ he sneered at me, his hands squeezing tightly around my heart, “he also said to tell you that traitors are better off dead.”

Guilt was the last thing I felt before he crushed my heart, ending my life.
