Chapter 49: Time is running Out

***GUINEVERE***

Somewhere far away I could hear the cries of a mother wolf, and I knew that my spirits and my mate needed me. I knew I had to find a way out of this abyss. I needed to be strong for them. I needed to keep fighting for them.

‘Guinevere… Guinevere…’ I heard Vladimir’s voice from a distance. ‘Guinevere can you hear me?’

‘Vlad!’ I shouted as loudly as I could, even so my voice sounded like a whisper. ‘Vlad’ I cried again. ‘Is that really you? What are you doing here?’

I continued to wait but still I didn’t hear from Vlad, it must be the Abyss playing tricks on mind again. I let out a sigh, as I continued to try to pull myself away from the darkness that had consumed me. ‘I really could use Vlad right now.’ I mumbled to myself. He always seems to know what to do in situations where my emotions become overwhelming. It must be a part of the soul bond. He must sense what I needed more than my own mind could.

I could feel myself start to sink deeper into the sticky tar like substance of the abyss, and I tried once again to pull myself out, knowing that this would be a battle of wits.

I tried to think happy thoughts, I tried to think of my new home, that Damien had built to surprise me, I tried to think of the times Vladimir and I had spent together deep in discussion, I thought of when Damien first told me he loved me, but no matter how happy the thoughts, I couldn’t push aside my thoughts on the impending war, my thoughts on all the lives that were lost when that bomb went off. I felt myself slide deeper, and I knew I was losing the battle.

‘I’m just not strong enough.’ I cried out! ‘I am the weak one in this pack. Without Sabrina and Sierra, without Vladimir and Damien. I am nothing.’ I sobbed. I could feel my sanity starting to go. I knew it would be a matter of seconds before I was completely swallowed whole.

“I’m sorry. I failed you.”

***VLADIMIR***

I grabbed Damien’s arm, to slow him down as he raced towards the Pack House, where all the warriors would be.

‘Damien, I don’t want to worry you more than you already are, but I can’t reach Guinevere at all.’

‘I know!’ Damien growled tearing his arm out of my hand, ‘I already told you! She’s gone into the abyss. There’s no pulling her out. She has to do this on her own.’

‘DAMIEN!’ I shouted at him. ‘LISTEN TO ME! I know we have other pressing matters at hand, but the connection Guinevere and I share, our soul mate bond, it allows my soul to travel to hers. I can still reach her when others can’t. I should be able to reach her in the Abyss. I should be able to pull her out. But I can’t! . I can’t reach her at all. I can barely feel her presence there.’

Damien paused his steps, starring at me.

He inhaled a deep breath before continuing.

“Okay, so what now?” He asked me?

“I think this is Guinevere’s first battle against Jupiter. I think it’s a mind game, and she’s losing.”

“So what do we do? How do we help her?” Damien asked, a panicked look on his face.

“I’m not sure. I think it would be best if you found her though, your mate bond is stronger than our soul connection. I think hearing you and you being near her will help her keep fighting.”

“But what about our army?” Damien asked seeming to ponder my answer.

“If Guinevere loses this battle against Jupiter, then the war is lost.” I snarl at him. Feeling my anger rise. “All of this, would be for nothing. Put your Beta in charge of your warriors, I will command mine and we will lead them into battle. You go and save your mate! You belong at her side.” I said fiercely.

“Your right.” Damien said. “What was I thinking, Guinevere needs me.”

Damien shifted into his wolf and smelt the air, sniffing for Guineveres scent, and without a moments delay, he was off to save her.

“May the gods be with you.” I murmured under my breath, heading towards the pack house.

***DAMIEN***

I raced through the woods towards our home where I’d left Guinevere last, hoping I wasn’t to late, hoping that Vladimir had been correct, and that my bond would help Guinevere win her battle against Jupiter.

“GUINEVERE!!!!” I yelled loudly, trying to locate my mate, I felt myself growing frantic because I couldn’t scent her. “GUINEVERE!!!” I yelled once more.

“Damien.” I heard a raspy voice call to me, “Hurry Damien, we’re going to lose her.”

Leo’s ears perked up, instantly recognized the voice as Guinevere’s wolf Sabrina, I raced towards the voice, my heart racing in my chest. Sabrina sounded so weak. I knew Guinevere was in a dire situation.

“Damien.” Sabrina cried out upon seeing me.

Finally they were in my line of sight. I shifted back into my human form, Leo quietly crying out to his mate’s desperate wails.

“Gwynn.” I whispered gently running up to my mate and wrapping my arms around her. “Guinevere, I’m here.” I nuzzled her cheek. “I’m here baby, you aren’t alone anymore.”

“Sabrina, how can I help Guinevere?” I asked my mates wolf spirit.

“I’m not sure. I can hardly sense Guinevere’s presence anymore. I just feel an ominous darkness lurking around.” Sabrina said, without a trace of hope in her eyes.

“There has to be a way to help her!” I yelled. “The moon goddess was adamant about us mating. I have to be able to save Guinevere.”

Guinevere’s face scowled, and I could tell Sabrina was deep in thought. Trying to piece together a plan to save her human side.

“There is one thing we could try, but it’s risky.” Sabrina said after a moment. “It could either save Guinevere’s spirit, or it could kill her.”
