Chapter 47: According to plan
My heart felt like it was tearing into two when I walked away from Guinevere. My mate was having a mental breakdown, she cut herself off from the world, and I just walked away. I know when Gwynn comes to she’ll have already forgiven me. She knows that as Alpha and Luna we have to put our pack first before ourselves. And I wasn’t just putting my pack first. I was putting all of werewolf kind first. The more prepared the pack is the higher the chances we have of defeating Jupiter.
‘Alex, how’s the situation at the cafeteria?’ I ask linking my Beta.
‘Not good.’ Alex says, I can feel the anger in his link. ‘So many were caught off guard. So many injured, and a handful have died, I’m sure others will succumb to their injuries. They laced the shrapnel with Wolves Bane’
‘Fuck’ I growl as increase my speed towards the dining hall, trying to prepare myself for scene ahead.
When I arrived at the hall it was destroyed. Whoever had planted the bomb, knew exactly where to place it to extract the most Damage.
Amongst the wreckage laid scattered limbs, bodies were already marked with red flags beside them indicating the deceased.
“Do we have any idea who did this?” Alex asked.
“We suspect it’s Jupiter. Or at least one of his associates. Guinevere’s succubus spirit, Sierra, sensed Jupiter’s watchdog in the are.”
Alex’s eyes widened. I could see a trace amount of fear in his eyes. And I couldn’t blame him for it. We had every reason to be afraid. Life as we know it could change from this moment forward.
The war for our species was beginning.
“Gather the warriors.” I directed my command at Alex. “And do you know where Vladimir is?”
“I don’t know…” Alex began but a heartbreaking sound cut him off.
It was the sound of a mother wolf crying hysterically for her baby.
However the noise wasn’t near us but somewhere off in the distance.
“Find where that noise is coming from.” I commanded a near by warrior, “ mind-link me as soon as you do. It could be important.”
“Yes Alpha,” the warrior responded, shifting into his wolf form and taking off the direction of the shriek.
“Damien!” Vladimir called out, appearing from the forest. “What the hell is going on?”
“We’re under attack.” I snarled. “Prepare your troops. Assign someone to get the women and children to safety.”
“Where is Guinevere?” Vladimir asked looking around, “I can’t feel her presence.”
I stayed silent not knowing how to answer.
Vladimir starred at me, waiting for an explanation.
“Damien, why can’t I feel Guinevere anymore?” He asked a look of concern etching across his face.
“Guinevere’s retreated into the back of her own mind. The bombing..” I take a deep breath, I can feel my emotions getting to me, “the bombing was too much for her to handle. It broke her.”
Vladimir gaze hardened.
“And where is she now?” He asked.
“Sabrina and Sierra went to stop the watchdog. I needed to be here to prepare the warriors for the war, while they won the battle.”
“Okay.” Vladimir stated rather calmly.
“Okay?” I asked raising an eyebrow
“If Sabrina and Sierra say they can take the watchdog, then I have no reason to believe they can’t. We will prepare our forces. Jupiter dies tonight. And afterwards we rescue Guinevere from herself.”
***GRIFFIN***
I heard the cries of the mother wolf in the distance and chuckled. Stephanie’s mother had found my gift to her. I’d left Stephanie by the tree on the hill. I’d strung her up by her intestines and carved the ward Traitorous Whore on her face.
Jupiter told me to kill her, but he never said I couldn’t have fun while doing it. Besides I only thought it was fair that her pack new the real reason behind Stephanie’s death, call it my parting gift before I destroyed them all.
‘I can’t sense Guinevere’s presence.’ Jupiter stated mind-linking me. ‘The slaughtering and destroying of multiple pack members must have done it’s job. Werewolves are so weak.’ Jupiter laughed pleased with the outcome.
I rolled my eyes. He’s such a fucking hothead. I’ve been by his side for the last twenty years and nothing has changed. He’s hell bent on destroying all of werewolf kind. Talk about a scorned lover.
‘Now, is the perfect time.’ Jupiter said. ‘Now we attack.’
