Chapter 39: The meeting

When I walked into the cafe the waitress curtsied at me.

“Alpha Damien, so nice of you to stop by.”

“I’m meeting Gregory McKay here. Is he here already?” I asked the waitress shooting her a smile.

“Yes, he’s in the far right corner.” The waitress said, gesturing towards a small corner booth in the cafe. The light above it had gone out making that small corner appear private and under a shade of darkness.

“Perfect, I’ll see myself over there. If you could bring us a pot of hot coffee and some half and half that would be great. “

“Of course Alpha.” The waitress giggled, giving me another small courtesy before turning away from me and hurrying into the kitchen.

I walked over to the dimly lit area, and there sitting at the table with his arms crossed staring straight at me was Gregory McKay. His chocolate brown hair was now more of a salt and pepper Grey and his eyes that I assumed had once been the similar intense blue of Guinevere’s were now a dull faded blue, closer to that of light grey. The years had not been easy on Gregory McKay and I felt a small Lang in my chest knowing my own father had been at fault for that.

As I neared the table Gregory stood up and nodded his head to me, slightly tuning his head to the side as a sign of submission with his hand extended out to greet me.

“Alpha Damien, how can I help you?” Gregory asked his head still bowed low.

“Gregory,” I grabbed his hand a shook it. “Thank you for agreeing to meet me. There is something I wish to discuss with you, please take a seat.”

Gregory sat back down in the booth, and I took the seat opposite him.

“Listen Gregory, I want to apologize for the way you’ve …”

Gregory raised his hand interrupting me.

“Alpha there is no reason for you to apologize to me. You weren’t the one who accused me of treason. You didn’t condemn my family to banishment. That was your fathers doing. The son shall not have to apologize for the actions of his father. Just promise to be a better man and a better leader than him.”

“That is part of the reason I am here today, Gregory, I’ve come to you with an offer. I’d like you to be the new head of the council. The pack is moving in a new direction and I need someone in charge of the council that I can trust, and that is willing to embrace change. I know you were born and raised to be second in command. You were raised with the same skill sets as an Alpha, which is why I think you’d make the perfect man for the job.”

Gregory seemed to ponder my request for a second before answering.

“The other wolves won’t respect me.”

I let out a snarl that caused Gregory to jump a little in his seat.

“They will respect you, you’re the father to their Luna and if they don’t respect, I will punish them until they do.”

Gregory’s face lit up with a small smile.

“I’d heard Guinevere was the Luna, I wasn’t sure if I should believe the rumors or not.”

I tugged at my collar nervously realizing everything had happened so quickly and Guinevere hadn’t had a chance to talk to her family yet.

“Yes,” I smiled sheepishly, “Guinevere is my mate and the unofficial Luna of the blue moon pack. I plan on having her Luna ceremony in two weeks and I’d like your first official duty as president of the council to be the inaugurator for her Luna ceremony.”

Gregory stilled and I saw a tiny tear in his eye threatening to spill over.

“It would be an honor Alpha.”

Gregory and I spent the rest of the afternoon discussing his new duties as council president.

I offered Gregory a living space in the pack house but he said he preferred his freedom that was given to him living on the outskirts of the pack.

As I was walking back to the pack house I started thinking about Vladimir’s request to meld the packs together, as Alpha I’d need to live in the center of the pack territory, Yet I wanted to offer Guinevere’s that same freedom that her father enjoyed. It was at that moment that I recalled the sorcerer’s cottage and how it was in the forest between the pack territories. It would be the perfect location for a new pack house. I quickly texted Vladimir letting him know of my plans to destroy the old cottage and make my new home. He okayed my decision and I phoned my contractor advising him that I wanted the job done within two Weeks time, it would be my surprise to Guinevere.

As I neared the gymnasium were Alex was meeting me to introduce me to the new pack warrior leaders, I felt the hairs on the back of my neck prick up. I got the sense that someone was watching me, but as I let Leo’s senses take over he couldn’t detect anything unusual nearby. Shrugging it off, I walked into the gymnasium ready to get training underway.

***The Present***

For the first time since I had learned about Jupiter and impending war, I felt a sense a calm flow over me. The pack was ready. We’d trained day and night, we’d rehearsed fight scenarios and soon we would have our Luna.

Gregory, Alex, and I were on our way to Vladimir’s to join in for Guinevere’s coronation and Luna ceremony, as well as commiserate the joining of the packs. We had just made our way to the stadium and I felt my heart start to race. I could smell her before I saw her, but when I saw her my heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest. She looked stunning, she was standing beside Vladimir and wore a skin tight red dress with a plunging neckline, her beautiful hair was pulled up in a tight ponytail and she was baring both of her marks with pride. My cock jolted upright at the sight of her making my suit pants fit more snugly. Vladimir whispered something in Guinevere’s ears and she stilled before glancing up, her eyes locked on mine.

Two weeks really was too long to go without your mate.
