Chapter 38: The Merger
***Damien***
-Two weeks earlier-
I thought I’d feel worse about banning my father was from the pack, but I actually felt a sense of calm wash over me the minute he’d stepped out of pack territory. I knew with my father gone, I’d be able to lead the pack as I wanted. I knew I wouldn’t ha e to live in his shadow.
“Alex,” I said turning to my Beta,”I think I’m going to disband the council.”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea Damien? I worry it’ll cause an uproar.”
Alex and I had gotten together first thing the next morning to figure out what to do with the pack, my father trying to overthrow my rule had caused some unnecessary tension amongst pack members.
“I think it’s the only way to smooth things over. The Elders in the council still follow by my father’s old rules. They aren’t okay with changes. They’ll fight us every step of the way. I need a council that is open to change, that’s wiling embrace the new world.”
Alex nodded his head in agreement. He understood that the council was set in their ways, and that they were none too happy about the banishment of my father. Last night the council had also tried to lock Alex up for the murder of his father former nets Caleb, I nipped that I’m the ass real quick. Caleb was a traitor and deserved to die. His death in my opinion was too gentle. Both Guinevere’s life and my own would’ve been different if Caleb hasn’t have interfered. Guinevere would grown up living in the pack house, we would’ve been close due to the ft her father would’ve been made Beta and I would’ve grown up in a loving home with doting parents, instead of a mother who was forever lonely and a father who hated any and everyone due to the fact his best friend betrayed him.
“When will you be announcing the disbandment?” Alex asked pulling me from my thoughts.
“Tonight at dinner, first I need to talk to Gregory.” I responded.
Alex raised his eyebrow at me, but didn’t say anything. I could tell he was waiting for me to explain further why it was so imperative that I talked to Guinevere’s father right now.
“Gregory was trained alongside my father to be a leader. He would’ve been Beta if Caleb hadn’t intervened. I think he would be the perfect president of the new council. I know it won’t makeup for the way my father treated him, but it’s a start.”
“Plus it’ll win you brownie points with the missus,” Alex said waggling his eye brows at me.
“Oh shut up.” I chuckle shoving him off to the side.
I glance down at my phone and see that it’s almost noon. Gregory and I were meeting for lunch.
“Okay, I have to go before I’m late. I need you to gather our strongest warriors and inform them of the upcoming threat with Jupiter. I want you to have each of them create a team out of the remaining wolves and train as efficiently and effectively as possible. We need to be at our strongest if we want to survive.”
The mood had turned gloomy just thinking of the upcoming weather at with Jupiter. We knew that Guinevere’s wolf Sabrina was our only fighting chance at winning this war and we also knew a lot of our wolves would be lost in the war.
“Yes Alpha.” Alex replied. His tone turning serious and back to that of my beta, not my friend.
“Thank you.” I nodded my head at him and walked out of my office.
On the way to the cafe my phone rang, looking at the caller ID I’m shocked to see Vladimir is calling. I was overcome with fear for Guinevere, I hadn’t felt anything through our bond, that meant she was in trouble but that didn’t stop the worry. I quickly answered the phone.
“Is Guinevere okay?”
“Guinevere’s fine. She’s recouping in my room. She hasn’t come out yet.”
I sighed with relief. “Oh okay, good. What’s up?”
“Damien we need to talk.” Vladimir said with a serious tone in his voice.
“Ummm okay…. What about?” I asked wondering what Vladimir wanted to discuss.
“I know Guinevere is your mate, but I can’t live without her. I can’t go without seeing her. Not now that I know she exists.”
I felt my anger rising and Leo trying to take over. I took a deep breath swallowing my anger down before answering.
“And you think that I can?”
“No, I never said that Damien. Calm down and listen.”
I felt my anger rise even more. As a dominate Alpha wolf I didn’t listen to commands well.
Vladimir was quiet for a moment before he continued.
“Damien, I want to combine the packs.”
“Wait, what?” I asked, clearly Vladimir was deranged.
“Please take it into consideration, Damien. I think it would be best not only for our situation with Guinevere, but I think it would offer both of our packs extra security against Jupiter’s coming war. And more and more vampires are finding their soul keepers are werewolves. We could be a safe haven for all magical creatures.”
I took a moment to process what Vladimir was saying before responding.
“When are you wanting to complete this?”
“At Guinevere’s coronation in two weeks time.”
“So it’s true then, Guinevere will be the Queen of Vampires? What if…” I took a deep swallow not wanting to voice my concerns out loud, “What if Guinevere doesn’t want to mate with you?”
The phone went quiet on the other end and had to check it to make sure the line hadn’t dropped, finally Vladimir answered.
“If Guinevere decides not to mate with me then that is her choice. All I ask of her is that she remains in my life. My goal is to protect, love, and cherish her. I don’t have to fuck her to know she’s mine.”
I let out a low growl, jealousy soaring through me.
“Easy there wolf boy. I’m not going to take your mate away it’s Why I suggested the merger.”
Once again I found myself swallowing down my anger and thinking of what was best for the pack and Guinevere.
“Okay, let’s merge them. I also want to hold Guinevere’s Luna ceremony on the same day as her coronation. I want the vampires and the wolves to know just how powerful their female leader is.”
“Perfect.” Vladimir replied. “We can arrange for that to happen.”
“Oh and one more thing Vlad,” he chuckled at the nickname I’d given him, “let’s keep this between us. I want Gwynn to be surprised.”
“Sounds good.” Vladimir responded before clicking the phone off.
After hanging up with Vladimir I took a look at my surroundings and realized I was almost to the cafe to meet Gwynns Dad. I checked my phone’s clock, and jogged the
rest of the way. I didn’t want to make a bad impression on my soon to be father-in law.
