BOOK 2: AN UNEXPECTED DUO: CHAPTER 10- MYRA

I was listening to Vladimir’s tale about Esmerelda, and when he admitted they were lovers, I was hit with the roaring rage of jealousy, I didn’t expect Vladimir to be a virgin, he’d be alive for a long time. Hell, I had lost my virginity when I was 16, behind the pack house with my “Boyfriend,” after he got what he wanted from me, he went on his merry way and we never talked again. That was when I hardened myself to men; I just hadn’t expected the mate bond to hit me as hard as it did when it came to Vladimir, I didn’t want him to leave and seek out answers from Esmerelda, but I knew she was the only hope we had towards saving Riss from the tragedy that had struck all Faeries, no matter their age.

I was so in-tuned with Vladimir’s story, that while I was watching myself chop vegetables, I wasn’t actually watching. I didn’t notice when the zucchini I was slicing, was completely sliced, and ended up slicing into myself instead. I let out a loud hiss before turning towards the kitchen sink so I could clean the wound before wrapping it with a paper-towel.

“Hey Vladimir, Do you mind getting me a bandaid from the bathroom?” In that moment, it hadn’t registered with me that Vladimir was a vampire who lusted after me, until I felt his presence behind me.

I slowly turned towards him and saw that his Vampire side had taken over. His eyes were blood red, his fangs extended out, his veins protruding from his face. In that moment he wasn’t my Vladimir, he was a blood thirsty monster; a side of him that he let no one see, yet I had met the monster three times already, once in the forest, once earlier today, and right now.

Vladimir had me trapped in a corner beside the kitchen sink, his hands on either side of me, gripping onto the counter. I looked around, trying to see if there was anything nearby that I could use to defend myself, there was nothing in sight, and I cursed myself for needing to have my counters completely bare. Vladimir started to growl at me, and I knew soon if I didn’t act fast, he would sink his fangs into me.

“Vladimir! Vladimir!” I yelled for his human counterpart, hoping that somehow he’d hear me yelling for him, and take back control. “Vladimir!” I attempted to yell one last time before he sunk his fangs into me. The feeling was euphoric and I never wanted him to stop. I cradled his head as I pulled his closer to me and he began to purr, vibrating his mouth against my neck. He lifted me up onto the counter, not once taking his fangs out of me, he slurped loudly, drink my blood, while I moaned out, trying to touch him everywhere. One moment, he was drinking from me, grinding his hips into me, and the next he was halfway across the room from me, fighting himself for control. I watched as his eyes changed from blood red, turning back to their natural dark brown, almost black color.

“Myra, I am so sorry.” He panted. “I…I lost control. I could have killed you.” His whispered, the anger with himself and gravity of what had just happened weighed heavy, showing clearing in his eyes.

“But you didn’t,” I responded, moving closer to him, wanting to comfort him with my presence, suddenly Vladimir wasn’t the monster, I pictured him to be. He was just a man battling his inner beast the same as any other man.

“Please, don’t come any closer,” He said, moving closer to the door, “I don’t know how much longer I can control my inner urges.

“Then don’t.” I responded trusting him completely for the first time, “Come taste me.”

“You don’t know what you’re asking for.” Vladimir responded, his eyes flashing red for a second.

“I do know. I want you Vladimir.” I wanted my mate. I had been resisting him for far to long, I wanted to succumb to my urges, and the pull of the bond.

“I’m sorry, I have to go.” He said, before bolting out the front door.

“Wait,” I yelled, running after him, but by the time I made it to the door he was gone.

I felt my wolf’s presence in the back of my mind, but she continued to ignore me, I could tell that Vladimir’s bite had woken her up, but she was still angry at me, for my decision to leave the pack life behind.

I crawled into my bed, dinner long forgotten, as I got under my weighted blanket, needing the comfort of feeling like someone was holding me. Once again I felt all alone in the world, and I didn’t know when or if Vladimir was coming back.

***VLADIMIR***

I was beating myself inside, as I continued to run out of the city towards Naperville. I had let myself lose control, I could have killed Myra, my mate, and then I would be no better than the rest of them, the vampires I despised, the vampires that took lives, without even blinking to satisfy their thirst for blood. I was only just barely able to regain control of my senses. Feeling the tingles of the mating bond on my skin, knowing I held my long awaited mate, my Queen, my Myra, in my arms, gave me the strength I needed to stop drinking. But what if next time that wasn’t enough. A chill ran through me at the thought of losing her. I don’t know how I would be able to survive without her, I had been waiting for her my entire life.

I reached Naperville, just before the sun began to rise. I walked down the familiar path to Esmerelda’s condo, stopping just outside the front door. My thoughts drifted to Myra and how I had left her standing there in her apartment. She probably thought I had abandoned her and Riss, leaving them to find a solution on their own. I pulled out my phone out of my back pocket, feeling the sudden urge to call her and make sure she was alright, but I decided against it. I’m sure she needed some distance away from me, now that the endorphins from the Vampire’s bite had left her blood stream. She’d soon come to realize what I did to her, once the lust wore off, and I wasn’t sure if she’d ever forgive me. Putting the phone back in my pocket, I reached my hand into the potted plant, searching for the key that I knew would be in there.

Esmerelda still hadn’t listened to me and changed over to a keypad for an added level of security. She could be so stubborn sometimes, I inserted the key and slowly entered the home. Esmerelda was on the couch straddling a young man. Her dress was hiked up and his pants were around his ankle, as she rode him. I noticed that her teeth were sunk deep into his flesh, and I grimaced, flashbacks over drinking Myra’s blood coming to mind, I felt my hunger increase, but I knew no other blood besides Myra’s could sate my appetite.

I cleared my throat. “Sorry, I didn’t know you had company.”

“Vlad,” Esmerelda called out in surprise, “I didn’t know you were coming over, would you like to join us?” She asked, pulling her dress up even higher, exposing her backside to me.

Many years ago, I would have jumped at the opportunity to join Esmerelda in a night of passion, but those years were long behind us. While Esmerelda let her seduction and need for intimacy, control her, I had felt the sudden urge to find someone to down settle down with and have a family. I had all but given up hope on finding my soul mate and my fated mate.

“No Esmerelda, I’m here on business.” I replied walking towards the kitchen to give her and her newest toy some privacy.

I could practically hear Esmerelda rolling her eyes as I walked by. “Alright, You have satisfied my needs for now. You may go.”

I heard a door shut, chuckling to myself, Esmerelda hadn’t changed a bit.

“Okay, why are you here,” she asked sniffing the air, “and why do you smell like dog?” `
