Chapter 104

The air was crisp with the promise of dawn as Jake tightened his leather armor, preparing for the hunt. His eyes held a mix of worry and determination, the lines of tension etched into his face deepening as he turned to me. I stood in the doorway of our room, arms crossed, pretending to be calm.

"You don’t have to do this alone," I said softly.

Jake stepped closer, his presence grounding. "This is something I need to do. Jacob is my responsibility, Prisca. He’s done enough damage, and it’s time I put an end to it."

I swallowed the lump in my throat, forcing a small smile. "I just don’t like the idea of you out there without backup."

"Chris and a few others are coming with me," he reassured me, his hand brushing against my cheek. "But I need you here. The pack needs you."

I nodded reluctantly. He wasn’t wrong. The pack was still reeling from the spider attacks, and while we’d managed to fend off the creatures, the scars—both physical and emotional—ran deep.

"Promise me you won’t do anything reckless while I’m gone," Jake said, his tone firm.

"Reckless? Me?" I quipped, trying to lighten the mood.

"Priscilla," he said, his voice dropping an octave.

I sighed, placing a hand over his. "I promise. I’ll be here when you get back."

His lips met mine in a lingering kiss, a silent exchange of trust and love. When he pulled away, he gave me one last look, his unspoken plea hanging in the air before he turned and left.

The moment Jake was gone, the room felt emptier, but my resolve burned brighter. I had promised him I wouldn’t be reckless, but there was something that had to be done. Jenna was still out there, and her connection to the chaos was undeniable. I couldn’t sit idle while she continued to torment us.

Jake might not approve, but this wasn’t his fight. Jenna was my responsibility.

I gathered my satchel of supplies and left the pack house, weaving through the early morning mist. Tracking Jenna wasn’t easy—her magic cloaked her movements, making her difficult to pin down. But she’d made a mistake: the spiders. Their residual energy carried her signature, a thread I could trace if I focused hard enough.

I found her hours later in the ruins of an old church deep within the forest. The structure was barely standing, its walls crumbling and vines overtaking what remained of its arches. The air here was heavy with malevolence, the kind of darkness that made my skin crawl.

Jenna was waiting for me, as if she’d known I’d come. She stood in the center of the dilapidated altar, her black robes flowing like liquid shadow. Her lips curled into a sly smile when she saw me.

"Priscilla," she purred. "I knew you’d come. Couldn’t resist playing hero, could you?"

"I’m here to end this, Jenna," I said, my voice steady despite the nerves twisting in my gut.

"End this?" she echoed, laughing. "Darling, this has barely begun."

She raised her hand, and the doors behind me slammed shut, sealing us in. The temperature dropped, frost creeping along the broken stone floor.

"You’re going to regret coming here alone," Jenna said, her eyes gleaming with malice.

"Maybe," I said, summoning my magic into a glowing orb that hovered above my palm. "But you’ll regret underestimating me."

The fight began with a clash of energies so intense it shook the very foundations of the church. Jenna’s black magic lashed out like a storm, tendrils of shadow snaking toward me with deadly precision. I countered with blasts of light, the two forces colliding in a spectacle of sparks and crackling energy.

Her magic was relentless, each strike more aggressive than the last. I ducked and rolled to avoid a blast that shattered a nearby pillar, sending chunks of stone raining down. My fire magic flared to life, roaring as it surged toward her.

Jenna laughed, twisting her hands to redirect the flames. "Is that the best you’ve got?"

"No," I muttered, summoning a bolt of lightning that struck the ground at her feet, forcing her to leap back.

The battle raged on, each of us pushing the other to the limit. Sweat dripped down my brow, my breathing labored, but I refused to give in. Jenna’s arrogance fueled me, her taunts only strengthening my resolve.

"You’re just a witch," she sneered, her magic forming a jagged spear of darkness. "A pretender playing with forces you barely understand."

"And you’re a coward," I shot back, deflecting her spear with a shield of light. "Hiding behind curses and monsters because you’re too weak to face me head-on."

Her face twisted with rage, and she unleashed a wave of power so intense it sent me crashing into the wall. Pain shot through my shoulder, but I gritted my teeth, forcing myself to stand.

"You should’ve stayed in your little pack house," Jenna said, stalking toward me. "Now you’ll die here, alone."

I wasn’t alone. I had the strength of my pack, the love of Jake, and the determination to protect what mattered most.

Channeling everything I had left, I called forth a surge of magic that illuminated the entire church. The light burned away the shadows, forcing Jenna to retreat.

"This ends now," I said, my voice steady despite the tremor in my limbs.

Jenna snarled, summoning a monstrous figure from the darkness. The creature was enormous, its form shifting and writhing as if it were made of pure nightmare. Its eyes glowed with a malevolent light, and its claws scraped against the stone floor as it advanced.

"You can’t win," Jenna said, her voice dripping with venom. "You’re not strong enough."

I ignored her, focusing on the beast. Its presence was suffocating, but I wouldn’t let fear control me. I raised my dagger, the runes glowing brighter than ever, and charged.

The creature roared, swiping at me with claws that could rend steel. I dodged, slashing at its flank, but my blade barely made a dent. Jenna’s laughter echoed around me, but I tuned it out, channeling my magic into the dagger.

With a roar of my own, I plunged the blade into the creature’s chest. The runes flared, light exploding outward in a shockwave that sent both Jenna and the monster sprawling.

Jenna staggered to her feet, blood dripping from her mouth. Her eyes burned with fury, but I could see the fear behind them.

"You can’t stop me," she rasped, even as her strength waned.

"Watch me," I said, raising my hand one final time.

A spear of light formed in my palm, its brilliance unmatched. I hurled it at Jenna, the magic piercing through her chest. She screamed, the sound tearing through the air as her body disintegrated into ash.

But her final words chilled me to the bone.

"I curse you," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "You’ll see..."

I rolled my eyes "Oh just fuck off Jena...go to hell already" I said as her body turned to ash

And then she was gone.
