Chapter 143

TÀMMY'S POV

The morning sun streamed through the dining room windows, bathing the room in a golden glow. The smell of fresh coffee and buttered toast filled the air, but I barely tasted the food on my plate. My appetite had disappeared the moment I woke up, replaced by the lingering sting of last night’s humiliation.

Jake. That arrogant, stubborn man had dismissed me in front of the entire pack. And Ayla—oh, that omega witch—she had stood there looking smug, basking in the Alpha’s undeserved loyalty.

I stabbed my fork into a piece of fruit with more force than necessary, ignoring the curious glances from a few workers clearing the table. Let them look. Let them whisper. Soon, they’d see me as their Luna, and their pathetic opinions wouldn’t matter anymore.

“Miss Tammy, would you like more juice?” one of the servants asked timidly.

“No,” I snapped, pushing my chair back with a loud scrape. The girl flinched, and I felt a flicker of satisfaction. At least someone still knew how to fear me.

I stood and smoothed the fabric of my dress, the silky material clinging to my curves perfectly. Jake might not have noticed me yet, but he would. I’d make sure of it.

“Clean this up,” I ordered the servants before leaving the dining room.

The hallway was quiet as I made my way to my room, my heels clicking against the polished floor. I needed to regroup, to plan my next move. Jake might have dismissed me, but I wasn’t finished. Not by a long shot.

When I opened the door to my room, I froze.

My father was sitting on the edge of my bed, his expression as cold and calculating as ever. His sharp suit was immaculate, not a single crease in sight, and his gray eyes pierced through me like daggers.

“Father,” I said, forcing a smile even as my stomach churned. “I wasn’t expecting you.”

“Clearly,” he said, his voice low and clipped.

I closed the door behind me, suddenly feeling trapped.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, trying to keep my tone light. “I thought you were busy with council matters.”

“I was,” he said, standing slowly. “But then I heard about your failure last night.”

My throat went dry. “Failure?”

“Yes, failure,” he snapped, his voice rising. “You’ve been in this pack for weeks, and what have you accomplished? Nothing!”

I opened my mouth to protest, but he cut me off.

“Do you have any idea how humiliating it was to hear that you, my daughter, couldn’t even get the Alpha to side with you? Let alone bed him?”

“Father, I—”

“Silence!” he barked, his hand slicing through the air.

I flinched, stepping back instinctively.

“You’re a disappointment, Tammy,” he said coldly. “A useless, pathetic excuse for a woman. What kind of female can’t seduce a man? Are you even trying?”

“I am trying!” I protested, my voice trembling.

“Not hard enough,” he sneered. “You’ve been handed everything—beauty, charm, a chance to secure our family’s future—and you’ve squandered it. Do you think the council will tolerate this kind of failure? Do you think *I* will tolerate it?”

Tears stung my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. He hated weakness, and I couldn’t afford to show it now.

“I’m doing my best,” I said quietly.

“Your best isn’t good enough,” he said, his voice like ice. “If you fail to bring that Alpha to heel, you’ll be of no use to me. Do you understand?”

I nodded, swallowing hard.

“And if you fail,” he continued, stepping closer, “I’ll deal with you the same way I dealt with your mother.”

The room seemed to tilt for a moment, his words hanging heavy in the air. I’d always known my mother’s death hadn’t been an accident, but hearing him admit it so bluntly still sent a chill down my spine.

“Yes, Father,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

He studied me for a moment, his eyes narrowing. “Good. Now clean yourself up and figure out a way to fix this mess. You’ve embarrassed me enough already.”

With that, he turned and left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I sank onto the bed, my hands trembling as I tried to process what had just happened.

My father had always been cruel, but his words today cut deeper than usual. I hated him, hated the way he treated me like a pawn in his games. But I hated myself even more for letting him.

As much as I despised him, I couldn’t deny the truth in his words. I had failed. Jake hadn’t even glanced at me the way he looked at Ayla, and the thought made my blood boil. What did she have that I didn’t? She was an omega, for god’s sake—a nobody.

But maybe… maybe I was going about this the wrong way. Jake wasn’t the kind of man to be swayed by words or tears. He was an Alpha, powerful and dominant. He needed something more.

An idea began to form in my mind, dark and twisted but undeniably effective.

If I couldn’t win Jake’s heart, I’d trap him another way.

A child.

The thought sent a shiver down my spine, equal parts excitement and fear. If I could get Jake to sleep with me, and if I ended up pregnant, he’d have no choice but to stay by my side. An Alpha always protected his heir, no matter what.

It was risky, but it was my only chance. My father would kill me if I failed again, and I wasn’t ready to die. Not yet.

I stood and walked to the mirror, studying my reflection. My eyes were red-rimmed, my hair slightly disheveled, but I still looked beautiful. I always did.

Tomorrow, I’d put my plan into motion. Jake wouldn’t know what hit him.

As for Ayla… well, she’d already had her fun. It was time for her to disappear.
