Chapter 257

ALARIC

"What do you mean she is gone?" Alaric spoke in a very low tone that sent shivers down Regan's spine. Everyone in the tent felt it-the tension and the horror of how the Alpha was going to react after hearing this news.

Regan swallowed and tried to remain calm. "Alpha, I think they escaped, but what doesn't make sense is Sasha is also missing. There were a few more human scents in that area, and one of the guards, Alan, mentioned seeing Sasha and the Luna..." Before Regan could finish his statement, Alaric cut him off.

"Then bring him forward now," he said impatiently.

Alan was brought forward with fear evident in his eyes. His Alpha was not playing games. "Speak," Regan commanded.

"Alpha, I saw them earlier on and asked to accompany them, but Sasha insisted they would be close. When I couldn't smell their scent after a few minutes, that's when I went to look for them, and they were just... gone," he breathed in before continuing. "I notified the other men to help me search for them in case they had returned, but we... couldn't find them."

Everyone waited for their Alpha's reaction. Alaric knew that they expected him to probably lash out or rip Alan's head off, but Alaric was calm. His mind calculating every possibility. His mate had escaped with a few other humans, but she wouldn't have made it without help. Aria had grown close to Sasha, so it made sense Sasha had helped her. Sasha was very loyal to her pack and her Alpha, so there had to be a major reason why she was helping them. Whatever it was, Alaric was not happy about this little act, and someone was going to pay for it dearly.

He was fuming inside, boiling with rage, but throwing a tantrum was not going to help. He was no child; he knew situations needed him to be calm and to think straight. Despite his mate having gone off, he still had people to lead and business to take care of. Eversince he was a child, Alaric had been trained hard to the core on how to be a leader. A leader did not let his emotions get in the way of what was important. An Alpha was a leader first and then a mate second.

"You said you caught scent of the humans, and where did it lead you?" Alaric asked calmly with a straight face. His wolf was so agitated; he gritted his teeth as he tried to maintain his straight face, but deep down, he wanted to explode... how could she be so careless! So irresponsible, she was human and had no idea what was out there. The girl even left her dragons; she must have lost her mind.

Regan responded to Alaric's question, "It led us out the borders, into the Trez territories. We also picked up the scent of more humans. One, in particular, had the Luna's but slightly different west of here. We believe Luna went after them," Regan stepped forward. "Alpha, we interrogated one of the Trez people, and he spoke. They chased some humans; he described one of them, and it's definitely Luna. They were heading to Westeroz.''

"Westeroz," Alaric thought out loud, narrowing his eyes at his beta.

"Yes, Alpha, apparently some soldiers were spotted in Heddahlia; they took captive some humans. I have a feeling Luna is going to try saving them," Regan added.

Of course, it all made sense now. Obviously, Aria believed Alaric would rather tie her up on his bed than let his mate wander off trying to play the hero, so instead she put matters into her own hands. Having a mate was turning out to be a lot of work for Alaric. Aria had no idea what she had gotten herself into.

Westeroz was the land of dragons; they worshipped them, and they weren't exactly fond of people from the East. Alaric wasn't fond of people from the West either; they treated people from the East like mindless savages. They even called them the wild ones. If they found out who Aria was, they'd take her and hold her there. It would be war; things were so complicated Aria had no idea just how complicated everything was. She was his mate, Queen, and Luna to his people. At the same time, she was also the dragon princess, heir to the throne of Westeroz, land of the dragons. If she found out just who she was, it was going to be one long year.

"Get the men ready; we are going to Westeroz," Alaric commanded. He had no time to waste; he had to get his queen, and he hoped Sasha was keeping her as safe as possible.

Aya, his Gemma, came forward and bowed her head. "Alpha, what of the hunting ceremony and the mating ceremony? What do we tell the people?"

Alaric walked forward. "You will lead the mating ceremony, and when I return, we will continue with the hunting ceremony. Aya, you will be in charge while I'm gone; it won't be that long," he said before walking out.

His heart pounded as they got the horses ready; he was beyond annoyed. All of this because of one person, his person. The shame she had brought to him was unbearable. She could have told him; he hated secrets. Regan gathered the men. They were going to need them because things were definitely not going to go smoothly in Westeroz.

"The men are ready, Alpha," Regan said.

Alaric nodded and mind-linked his men, "We shift into our wolves until we reach Westeroz. We shift back into human form when we enter Westeroz. No humans must know what we are; it must remain a myth to them."

Humans believed that there were once dragons, wolves, fairies, and other monsters that lived in the Eastern forests. That is why they did not like the East, and they decided only wild people lived there. The forest people, they said. They made up all kinds of stories about the beasts, half man, half wolf, and even unicorns. So far it was just stories, legends, and myths.

Alaric wasn't bothered by all that as long as it kept the humans away from their territories. However, Alaric and many other Alphas made sure to never reveal themselves to the humans. That is how they kept the balance of nature. If humans knew about their existence, it would be chaos. Some humans knew about them, but most did not; they just heard stories.

His men nodded; he shifted first, and the rest followed before they headed towards the forest. In their wolf form, they would reach Westeroz soon. He only hoped nothing would go wrong. He would deal with his mate accordingly after all this trouble.
