Chapter 167
The plan was set. The air buzzed with a mixture of tension and anticipation, and I could barely contain my nerves as I joined Jake, Sophie, and Fatima in the study. Tammy was pacing in the room, wringing her hands and muttering to herself. It wasn’t hard to see the turmoil in her—it was written all over her face.
“You’re sure you want to do this?” I asked softly, stepping closer to her.
She stopped, her green eyes meeting mine. For the first time since I’d met her, I saw vulnerability and strength wrapped in one glance.
“I have to,” Tammy said, her voice steady despite the tears brimming in her eyes. “If I don’t, he’ll keep hurting people. He’ll keep hurting me.”
Jake nodded, his face unreadable but his voice firm. “Stick to the script. Tell him exactly what we planned. We’ll be listening the entire time.”
Sophie handed Tammy a small bugging device, barely the size of a button, and helped her secure it to the collar of her blouse. “You need to make him lose his temper,” Sophie advised. “We need him to admit to everything.”
Tammy swallowed hard, nodded, and took a deep breath.
Tammy entered Joseph’s study while the rest of us stayed behind, crowded around the small device that allowed us to hear every word. The tension in the room was palpable as we waited.
“Father,” Tammy’s voice rang out, soft but resolute.
“What is it?” Joseph’s gruff voice responded.
There was a pause, and I imagined Tammy must be gathering her courage.
“I can’t do this anymore,” she finally said. Her voice trembled slightly, but there was a determination beneath it. “I don’t want to be part of this plan to kill Jake. I don’t want to be your pawn.”
I clenched my fists, glancing at Jake, who was leaning against the table, his expression stoic. Sophie and Fatima exchanged nervous looks, their breaths held as we all listened.
“You don’t want to be my pawn?” Joseph’s voice was low and venomous. “Do you have any idea what you’re saying?”
“I do,” Tammy said firmly. “This isn’t right. Jake is a good leader, and I won’t let you manipulate me anymore.”
The sound of something crashing startled us, and Tammy gasped.
“You ungrateful little brat,” Joseph snarled. “I gave you life! I made you what you are, and this is how you repay me? Just like your mother.”
“Don’t you dare talk about her!” Tammy shouted back, her voice filled with anger and pain.
“You’re just like her,” Joseph spat. “A useless, weak little whore who betrayed me.”
The words sent a chill down my spine, and I noticed Sophie stiffen beside me. Jake’s jaw tightened, his fists clenching at his sides.
“I know what you did,” Tammy said, her voice cracking with emotion. “You killed her. You pushed her off that balcony because you couldn’t control her anymore.”
Joseph laughed coldly. “She got what she deserved. And maybe it’s time you joined her.”
Before any of us could react, Jake and Chris, his beta, moved toward the door. Jake’s expression was dark, his eyes glowing faintly with anger. He gestured for us to stay behind as he and Chris slipped out to intervene.
“Joseph!” Jake’s voice boomed as he entered the room.
We listened intently as the scene unfolded.
“Alpha,” Joseph stammered, clearly startled. “This isn’t what it looks like—”
“Save it,” Jake said coldly. “We’ve been listening to every word.”
“Father,” Tammy said, her voice strong despite the tears in it. “You’re done.”
There was a pause, and then the sound of Joseph chuckling, though it was tinged with panic.
“You think you can outsmart me?” he sneered. “You’re nothing without me. None of you are.”
The plan had worked perfectly. By now, the rest of the pack had been quietly gathered outside the study, listening in horror to Joseph’s words through the bugged device. Jake opened the door, and the pack members filed in, their faces a mixture of shock and disgust.
“You murdered your mate,” Jake said, his voice carrying the weight of his authority. “You manipulated your daughter and plotted to overthrow your Alpha. You’re done, Joseph.”
The pack erupted into murmurs, their loyalty to Jake evident in their expressions. Joseph looked around, his face pale, but his eyes were still defiant.
“This pack deserves better,” Joseph snarled. “You’re weak, Jake. You let emotions rule you. That’s why I had to step in.”
“Step in?” Jake repeated, his tone icy. “You mean betray your Alpha and terrorize your daughter?”
Joseph lunged forward, but Jake didn’t even flinch. Chris stepped in to restrain him, and the pack watched as Joseph was dragged out, his fate sealed.
Outside, under the moonlight, Jake addressed the pack.
“Joseph has betrayed his family, his pack, and the very principles we stand for,” Jake said. His voice was calm but filled with conviction. “For the murder of his mate, the abuse of his daughter, and the attempted murder of your Alpha, he is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment in the cells. He will never again see the light of day.”
The pack erupted into cheers and murmurs of approval. Tammy stood beside me, tears streaming down her face as she watched her father being dragged away.
“You’re free now,” I whispered to her, placing a hand on her shoulder.
She nodded, her lips trembling. “Thank you,” she whispered back.
Later that night, as I tucked Lily and Logan into bed, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief. Justice had been served, and Tammy was free from her father’s influence. But there was still so much to process, so much to heal from.
Jake found me sitting by the fireplace, staring into the flames. He sat down beside me, silent for a moment before he spoke.
“You did well,” he said softly.
I looked at him, surprised. “I didn’t do anything. Tammy’s the brave one.”
“You believed in her,” Jake said. “And that’s what gave her the courage to stand up to him.”
