Chapter 28
**PRISCA**
The drive back home was quiet, but not in an awkward way. It was a comfortable silence, the kind that wraps around you like a warm blanket. My mind, however, wasn’t quiet at all. I couldn’t stop replaying our kiss from earlier—the way Jake’s lips moved against mine, the heat that surged between us. It was as if the moment had imprinted itself on me, and I replayed it over and over like some lovestruck fool. I was so lost in my thoughts, I didn’t even realize we had arrived.
Jake got out of the car first, and like a true gentleman, he came around to my side, opening the door of his sleek black Range Rover Evoque. His hand gently held my waist as he helped me out of the car, and I blushed, feeling the warmth of his touch spread through me. For a fleeting moment, I wished he could stay like this forever—kind, attentive, and close. But I didn’t let myself get too carried away. Knowing Jake, this sweetness wouldn’t last long. He’d probably go back to being cold and distant by morning.
We walked into his grand penthouse together, and I took a quick glance at him, hoping to catch a smile or even just a flicker of softness in his expression. But no. He was frowning, his face a mask of confusion and conflict. It was like he was lost somewhere far away, deep in his thoughts.
I frowned, my curiosity getting the better of me. "What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?" I asked, worried I had something embarrassing stuck on me.
Jake blinked, startled, as if he hadn’t realized I was standing right next to him. He shook his head quickly, looking almost flustered. "What? No, it’s nothing," he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
Unbelievable. He wasn’t even paying attention. My stomach tightened with embarrassment, and I quickly wiped at my cheeks, just in case. "Uh... I'm going to take a shower," I blurted, walking away as fast as I could.
*The humiliation!*
I rushed into my room, slamming the door shut behind me, and practically ran to the mirror. There was nothing on my face—no smudges, no crumbs, no lipstick stains. *Thank God.* But if nothing was wrong, why was Jake looking at me like that? His expression had been so... strange.
"Maybe he’s just tired," I muttered to myself, trying to shake the uncomfortable feeling in my chest.
I turned to my dresser and unzipped my dress, letting it slip off my shoulders and pool around my feet. I was about to grab my favorite pair of pajama shorts and an old T-shirt when the door suddenly burst open with a loud bang. I screamed, jumping in shock as my hands instinctively flew up to cover my half-naked body. My heart pounded furiously in my chest.
"Jake?!" I gasped, my voice trembling as I tried to process what was happening. "What the hell are you doing?"
But then I saw his face, and the words died in my throat. His eyes... they weren’t normal. His normally silver-grey eyes were now a deep, inky black, surrounded by a fiery ring of red. His veins, dark and web-like, snaked up his neck, pulsing with an unnatural energy. He looked nothing like the Jake I knew. He looked like a predator.
*Oh God.*
"Jake?" I whispered, my voice barely audible. Fear crawled up my spine as he started walking toward me, his steps slow and deliberate, like a predator stalking its prey. His breathing was ragged, and there was something primal about the way he moved. Something dangerous.
"Jake, are you okay? You don’t look so good..." I stammered, backing up slowly with every step he took toward me.
His eyes locked on mine, but there was something wild and unrecognizable in them. It was as if Jake wasn’t in control anymore. I swallowed hard, my mind racing. I had never seen a werewolf in person before, and I had certainly never seen one look like this. Even in movies, they didn’t look this terrifying in human form.
He was getting closer—too close. My instincts screamed at me to run, but there was nowhere to go. I was trapped.
*I need to get out of here. I need to run.* But before I could make a move, Jake lunged at me with inhuman speed. His arm wrapped around my waist, and suddenly I was pinned against the nearest wall, completely caged in. I gasped, clutching at his shoulders as he held me in place. My legs instinctively wrapped around his waist, and I could feel the heat radiating off his body.
I shut my eyes tightly, too terrified to look at him. "Please... don’t hurt me," I whispered, my voice shaking.
For a moment, there was only silence, broken by Jake’s heavy breathing. Then, in a voice that was deep and hoarse, he growled, "Mate."
He buried his face in my neck, inhaling deeply, and then—God help me—he licked my skin. His tongue was hot against my neck, and I couldn’t suppress the moan that escaped my lips.
*What’s happening to him?*
He continued to kiss and nip at my neck, his hands gripping me tighter as he began grinding against me. His movements were rough, almost desperate, and I could feel his hard arousal pressing into me. My mind screamed at me to push him away, to get out of this situation, but my body betrayed me. Every touch sent sparks through me, making it impossible to think straight.
"Jake... you need to stop," I managed to gasp between moans, trying to regain some control.
But before I could push him away, he moved with lightning speed, tossing me onto the bed. He was on top of me in an instant, pinning me down with his weight. I stared up at him in shock, my heart racing as I took in the sight of his eyes. They were no longer red-ringed. Now they were completely black—pure obsidian, like bottomless pits of darkness.
They were beautiful, in a way. Mesmerizing. And for a brief second, I found myself lost in them, drawn to the mystery and danger they held.
Jake’s lips crashed down on mine, and this time, I didn’t resist. The kiss was deep, hungry, and filled with a desperation I didn’t understand. His lips moved to my neck again, kissing and nibbling the sensitive skin. I let my eyes drift shut, sinking into the sensation, until—
A sharp pain shot through me as I felt something scrape against my neck—teeth. Razor-sharp, needle-like teeth.
"Jake... what are you doing?" I gasped, panic flooding through me.
His chest vibrated as he growled, low and menacing, and then I screamed. The pain was unbearable as his teeth sank into my neck, biting down hard. I had never experienced anything like it—the agony was so intense, I thought I might pass out. But then, as quickly as the pain came, it was replaced by an overwhelming wave of pleasure. It was as if my body had gone numb, the pain fading away into something euphoric.
Jake’s mouth remained on my neck for what felt like an eternity before he finally pulled away. He licked the wound he had made, and I shuddered, feeling weak and drowsy.
I blinked slowly, my vision starting to blur. "What did you do to me?" I whispered, my voice barely audible.
The last thing I saw before darkness claimed me was Jake’s eyes—no longer black, but back to their natural silver-grey, wide with shock as he looked down at me.
And then everything went black.
