Chapter 114

I was up early, as always, feeding the twins their breakfast. Lily sat in her highchair, grinning as she smeared oatmeal on her face, while Logan banged his spoon against the table like he was conducting a symphony.

“Are you trying to give me a headache, Logan?” I teased, wiping a bit of oatmeal off his cheek.

He gurgled in response, and Lily burst into giggles.

The morning sunlight filtered through the windows, casting a warm glow over the dining room. I didn’t mind these moments; in fact, I cherished them. Taking care of these little ones felt natural, like I’d been doing it forever.

Jake, on the other hand, sat silently at the head of the table, sipping his coffee. His presence filled the room, commanding without trying, but his attention wasn’t on us. He seemed to be lost in his own world.

I hesitated as I glanced his way, trying to summon the courage to say what was on my mind. The tension between us had been unbearable since the training field… and that spark. My wolf stirred every time I thought about it, but I shoved the feeling down.

“Alpha?” I started, keeping my tone soft.

He didn’t look up.

“I was thinking… the twins love you, and I know you’re busy, but maybe you could set aside some time for them? Just a little playdate now and then. I wouldn’t have to be there if you—”

Jake’s chair scraped loudly against the floor as he stood, his towering frame closing the distance between us in three long strides.

“You think you can tell me how to raise my children?” His voice was low, but there was a dangerous edge to it.

My breath hitched as he stepped closer, boxing me in against the wall.

“Jake, I’m not trying to—”

“You’re not their mother, Ayla,” he growled, his face inches from mine. “You’re the Luna. Do your part and stay out of my business.”

His words were ice, but the heat of his body so close to mine set my skin on fire. His eyes darkened, flashing with something primal, and the tension crackled between us like a live wire.

“I was only suggesting—” I stammered, but the words died in my throat as his lips curled into a snarl.

“That’s your first mistake,” he said, his voice rough. “Don’t.”

My wolf stirred restlessly, a warmth pooling in my chest that I couldn’t explain. I was furious, confused… but also undeniably drawn to him.

As suddenly as he’d cornered me, Jake growled low in his throat and stormed off, leaving me breathless and shaken.

What the hell was wrong with him?

What the hell was wrong with me?

Needing a distraction, I made my way to the training grounds. Adam’s easygoing nature always had a way of making me feel lighter, and I hoped he could pull me out of the tangled mess of emotions Jake had left behind.

“Back for more already?” Adam called out as I approached.

His grin was as infectious as ever, and I found myself smiling despite my mood.

“Don’t flatter yourself,” I shot back, rolling my eyes.

Adam laughed, tossing me a wooden practice sword. “Come on, Luna. Let’s see if you’ve improved since yesterday, or if you’re still a disaster waiting to happen.”

The banter came easily, and for a while, I forgot all about Jake and his infuriating possessiveness.

Adam was flirty but never crossed a line. He guided me through the movements with care, his hands brushing mine as he adjusted my grip or corrected my posture.

“Focus, Ayla,” he teased, his breath warm against my ear as he stepped behind me to guide my swing. “Or are you too distracted by how devilishly handsome I am?”

I laughed, shaking my head. “You wish.”

When it came time for sparring, Adam upped the ante by placing a bet: whoever won got to choose the loser’s punishment.

I accepted, full of confidence… and immediately regretted it when he pinned me to the ground within seconds.

“Looks like I win,” he said smugly, straddling me as he held my wrists above my head.

“Beginner’s luck,” I muttered, trying not to notice how warm he felt against me.

“Admit it, Luna. You underestimated me,” he teased, his green eyes sparkling.

I cleared my throat, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks. “Alright, you win. What’s my punishment?”

“A night out,” he said, his grin turning mischievous. “Friday. No excuses.”

I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help smiling. “Fine. But if you try to make me dance, you’re going to regret it.”

Adam helped me up, still laughing. “Oh, I’m counting on it.”

By the time I returned to the packhouse, I was sore but in a better mood. A long, hot shower was exactly what I needed to unwind.

The water cascaded over me, washing away the sweat and tension from training. I closed my eyes, letting the warmth envelop me.

Suddenly, a sharp intake of breath startled me, and my eyes snapped open.

Jake was standing there, his broad shoulders filling the doorway, his eyes as dark as storm clouds.

“Jake!” I yelped, grabbing for a towel, but he was faster. In two strides, he was in front of me, his hands gripping my shoulders as he spun me around and pinned me against the cool tile.

“What are you doing?” I demanded, my voice shaking.

His breath was hot against my neck, sending shivers down my spine. “Why do you smell like another male?”

“What are you talking about?” I gasped, trying to twist away, but his body pressed firmly against mine, holding me in place.

“Adam,” he growled, his voice low and guttural. “You were with him.”

“I was training,” I snapped, my frustration boiling over. “What’s your problem?”

Jake’s fists slammed against the wall on either side of me, and I flinched at the raw power in the motion.

“Is that why you’re here?” he demanded, his voice dripping with venom. “To fuck around with members of my pack?”

Anger flared in me, but before I could respond, his lips crashed against mine, silencing any protest.

The kiss was fire—hot and demanding, consuming me entirely. I should’ve pushed him away, should’ve been furious… but I wasn’t.

I kissed him back, my hands tangling in his hair as our tongues clashed. Sparks erupted everywhere he touched, and my wolf howled in satisfaction.

Jake’s hands roamed over my wet skin, his grip possessive as he claimed every inch of me. He cupped my breasts, his thumbs brushing over my sensitive nipples, and a moan escaped my lips before I could stop it.

He growled in response, the sound vibrating against my mouth.

For a moment, the world narrowed to just the two of us, the steam from the shower mingling with the heat between us.

But then a knock on the bathroom door shattered the spell.

Jake pulled back, his breathing ragged, his obsidian eyes searching mine.

Before I could say anything, he was gone, leaving me trembling against the wall.

“What the hell just happened?” I whispered, touching my swollen lips.
