Chapter 25: And the game continues.
**** Last Night…****
As soon as DK leaves, and in sequence the subordinates, Kevin Webster calls his daughter to his office.
“Did something happen, Dad?”
“What did you think of DK?”
“He’s an interesting, handsome, and charming man.”
“Great! You liked him.”
“He’s the son of the powerful big boss, and in the absence of the father, the son is the one in charge, isn’t that right?” Deanne shows how interested she is.
“First I want you to sit down, Deanne.” She obeys him, hearing her father continue…”Do you know why he’s here?”
“Did he come to check on the business?”
“No! Alexander probably discovered a hole in the accounts and sent his son to check it out.”
“Dad, are you stealing from the powerful Kicher?” Deanne waits anxiously for an answer.
“Guilty! That’s right. I lied when I said I got a raise and the fact is I don't want to have my hands cut off or receive a worse punishment, death.”
“If you knew that could happen, why did you?”
“Do you really want to lecture me or are you going to help me?”
“You want me to win him over.”
“No! You've already won him over, what I want is for you to use this game of seduction to my advantage. Do whatever it takes, you understand me.”
“Perfectly. You want me to use my body to save you from certain death. Mr. Webster, you've outdone yourself. Have you ever thought about my own safety and what if this plan of yours goes wrong and he wants to kill me?”
“If you do everything right, nothing will happen to you. Use the beauty you inherited from your mother's prostitute for something really worthwhile instead of punching drunks in the middle of the salon. Now get out in front of me.” Kevin didn’t even look at his daughter’s face, who was clenching her fists as she tried to hold back her angry tears. She took a deep breath and went back to the casino and she job. However, she didn’t stay much longer, because had to wake up early to meet DK.
***Back at the restaurant…***
Deanne and DK were enjoying sophisticated and delicious dishes, and before dessert she looked at him and asked:
“You’re here because of the embezzlement of money, aren’t you?”
“And you’re very perceptive and direct, Miss Deanne. And almost fooled me.”
Deanne smiled awkwardly, but saw an opportunity to explain herself. “I really had a plan to conquer you and try to clear my father’s name. But, really I like you, DK. And I’m sorry for my actions. If you never want to look at my face again, I’ll understand.” Deanne lowered her head and DK watched her for a few seconds.
“So you are confessing that your father is really embezzling money and that you are an accomplice?” DK questions and she raises her brown eyes and they are fixed on DK’s:
“I will ask a hypothetical question, may I?”
“Go ahead.”
“If by chance Kevin Webster is really embezzling money, and if it is proven, what would be the punishment?”
“The punishment for traitors is death and for those who are their accomplices, humiliation and torture.” DK is firm in his words, watching the eyes of the beautiful woman sitting in front of him widen.
“However, if the accomplice helps to discover the act of theft, she may receive a light punishment or, if she is a beautiful woman like you, perhaps even be forgiven. Remembering that these are just hypotheses.”
“Could you take me away, please?” Deanne changes her expression, attracting DK’s attention.
“Why you became suddenly sad, Miss Deanne?”
“I just realized that I unintentionally became an accomplice and unintentionally I feel very attracted to my boss who could end my father’s life.”
“I like your sincerity”
“It’s not sincerity, it’s survival instinct.” Deanne picks up the bag she had placed under the table and stands up
“Where are you going, Miss Webster?”
“Back home, you don’t have to come with me. And please don’t call me by that damned last name.” The brown-haired woman acts offended and leaves the restaurant, leaving DK behind trying to assess the whole situation. While she was waiting for the bill to arrive, she called Jacob:
“Can talk, Boss!”
“I need you to investigate everything about Kevin and Deanne Webster and it has to be quick.”
Back at the hotel, DK was walking to the elevator when he heard raised voices in a hidden corner. The man young boss tried to listen and understand the discussion, but he became worried when he recognized one of the voices coming towards her:
“It’s not my fault, and what’s more, I don’t want to get involved in this shit.”
“Deanne, you owe me. Who took you in when your slut of a mother took medication until she died?”
“You didn't do more than your obligation, since you’re my father. And don’t come at me full of accusations, it’s not my fault you got involved with a prostitute.”
Kevin was so irritated by Deanne’s words that went top of her and when he was almost hit your face, DK grabbed his hand.
“What do you think you’re doing, Mr. Webster?”
“Don’t get involved, she’s my daughter and I’ll correct her however I want.” Kevin was still full of anger while staring at Deanne
“I’ll give you a chance to calm down and if you do, I’ll have to take other measures.”
“You can me release, I’m calm now.”
DK glares at Kevin who takes a few steps back, watching the mafia boss take his daughter’s hand and lead her away. Just as the elevator door closes, Deanne smiles and says:
“Sorry for the confusion. My father is very energetic.”
“Are you okay?”
“Yes. I’ve gotten it's like this used to it since I was 10 years old when my mother died and I had to come live with him.”
“It seems like you’ve had a hard life. Do you want to talk?”
“Mr. Kicher, let’s get back to formalities. It's better this way. You’re my boss and I don’t want to fool myself.” The elevator opens the door on the 8th floor, where her apartment was, and just as she was about to step out, Deanne feels DK’s hand touch her wrist, pulling her in.
“And if I want to know more about you. I want to get to know you better, Deanne.”
“Boss, I…”
DK holds Deanne’s chin and gives her a kiss. She can’t resist anymore and reciprocates clinging to his body.
