Chapter 40: Théo, don't hate your father

While Deanne is having a childish outbreak, smiling mockingly and claiming victory over a 10-year-old boy, DK grabs the medicine suitcase and first sterilizes the wound near left temple, putting a bandage on it to stop the bleeding and then grabs a band for Bella's leg. But when Deanne notices that her boyfriend was about to pull down his loose cotton pants, she holds his hand and with a fake smile justifies herself when she notices DK's disapproving look:

“Why don't you wait for the doctor to arrive? You don't even know if he'll really put the bandage on the injured area.”

“I'm part of the Mafia, Deanne. And I was forced to learn a little first aid. But I know you're jealous, so I'm not going to provoke you. Let's wait for the doctor to arrive.” DK, even though deep down he was desperate to help Bella, preferred to heed his deceitful girlfriend's plea.

“You don't deserve my mother. Not then and not now.” Theo approaches Dylan after Deanne's look of satisfaction and smile did not go unnoticed.

“Kid, how old are you, 10? So put yourself in of child's place and be quiet, you don't know anything.”

“I'm just a child, but I know how to observe things around me better than you.”

“Enough, Kid!” Deanne loses her patience.

However, Theo keeps quiet for now and sits next to his mother holding her hand. And outside listening to everything that was happening because the door was not completely closed was Alexander Kicher who even remembers a moment he had with his son when he was more or less the same age as the boy and this also served as a warning to him who decided to keep a discreetly eye on Dylan's new girlfriend, returning to his room which was next to Bella's room when he noticed footsteps coming up the stairs and immediately recognized the voice of the family doctor.

“Dr. Chase, great that you're here.”

The doctor thanked him for the welcome and immediately began to walk towards the bed. When he saw who it was, he asked Dylan:

“Isn’t this Bella Han, the daughter of your father’s biggest rival?”

“You’re right.”

“But why is she here?” the doctor continued to question and ended up irritating DK.

“For a doctor who works for the Mafia, you’re questioning me a lot.if you don't want to help her, get out of my way and I’ll call another doctor.”

“No need to get angry, I’ll examine her.”

“You finally decided to do your job.”

The doctor, who wasn't even that old, looking about 45, grabbed his bag and stethoscope, listening to Bella's racing heartbeat and the sweat running down her body. He turned her slightly to the side to continue his exams and took a thermometer and measured the beautiful brunette's temperature. He lifted her blouse and tightened her belly and also dropped his pants her, observing her leg at the thigh, which was slightly purple. DK noticed that it was a bluish purple, different from when he had seen it before leaving the room. Frowning, he looked at Deanne, who was next to him, watching everything, trying to hide her desire to get rid of Bella as quickly as possible. If it was due to an illness, even better, she thought at that moment. The doctor examined the wound and the leg, confirming that it wasn't that bad, and finally he gave a diagnosis:

"She has pneumonia that has probably gotten worse. And as for her leg, I'm going to apply an ointment and the antibiotics I'm going to prescribe will help the wound heal quickly. She'll need nebulization and other intravenous medications. I'm going to leave my man assistant here to take care of her, administer IV fluids and whatever else she needs.”

“I prefer it to be a woman.”

“Okay, if you want it that way.”

Deanne just looked at her boyfriend and asked: “Why are you demanding that it be a woman?”

“First of all, I’m not demanding, I’m asking, and secondly, I think Bella and Théo would be more comfortable if it was a woman, that’s it. Don’t go thinking nonsense in your head.” DK smiled, giving an excuse that would probably work for anyone else, but Deanne knew how to recognize a lie from afar, because she lived with liars all the time, her own father was a good example of a great liar.”

“Hmm! For a moment I thought you still cared about this woman who tried to take your life.”

“Oh my! You don’t have to go that far, remembering that story. I already said that Bella is here for one reason only.

“She’s just insecure. Stay away from my mother and your girlfriend will leave you alone.”

“Why don’t you go to sleep. huh, boy?”

“None of your business.”

“So, I’ve already given her the antibiotics and called one of the nurses on my team to bring her some things she’ll need for the treatment that will last a few days.”

“Will my mother be okay, doctor?”

“Yes, she will. Don’t worry, in about 5 days with antibiotics and other treatments, your mother will get better quickly.”

“Thank you, doctor, I’ll never forget what you did for my mother. Even though you were very hostile at first.”

“It was nothing, kiddo.”

“My name is Théo Hahn! Nice to meet you, Dr. Chase.” The boy stretches out his hand for a shake and the doctor does so with an admiring smile, looking at Théo, starting to notice some similarities with DK, but he preferred not to risk asking, then he just said goodbye.

“Son, do you want to sleep with me tonight?”

“No! I’m going to stay with my mother and take care of her, and another thing, even if you really are my father, I’m going to deny it with all my strength. You abandoned my mother and consequently me. As bad as it is, the only father figure I have is Johnny.”

“One day you’ll understand, Théo.” DK responds sadly at his son’s rejection

“Okay. I’ll ask Nona to come stay with you until the nurse arrives.” DK leaves and Deanne follows him, leaving Théo and Bella, who was still unconscious.

“How can you like this guy? He’s a Kicher.”

“Théo, Mom didn’t love your father because of his last name, but for other reasons. Please, don’t hate.”

“Mom, you woke up!”
