Chapter 44: A Timely Help.
A few days have passed since Bella started working as a maid at the Kicher mansion. She always tried to avoid being near DK and Deanne, who never missed an opportunity to try to humiliate her rival as if she wasn't already at rock bottom enough:
“Did you finish cleaning the kitchen floor?”
“Yes, You need anything?”
“That you clean this part again near me.”
“But why did, I finish cleaning?”
“You didn't clean it properly, look closely.” Deanne purposely spills the juice she was drinking as well as the glass cup that falls right next to Bella's feet. She then glares at the woman who had a mocking expression:
“You're simply ridiculous, besides being mean and childish.”
“Shut up! You're paid here to work, not to give opinions about you mistre.” Deanne turns her back and leaves, leaving Bella extremely irritated. She bends down to pick up the shards of glass from the cup and while picking them up, she ends up injuring her finger.
“Oh, damn it!” Bella goes to the kitchen sink to wash the blood that was dripping and Nona comes in and immediately sees the spilled juice, the broken glass and Bella gushing blood from her finger. The housekeeper ignores the mess and goes to help by grabbing the first aid kit she had and one of the cabinets.
“What happened here? I just asked you to clean the floor.”
“That’s what I did.”
“Oh really? Then why the mess?”
“Deanne”
“That bitch has no limits, I’m going to tell Dylan about these evil things his girlfriend is doing before someone gets seriously hurt.” Nona says irritably as she bandages Bella’s finger. Bella retorts:
“Don’t do that, Mrs. Grasso. You’ll only upset him and he won’t believe you, just like other times. It’s my fault, I’m the one who hurt him so much that he prefers to ignore his new girlfriend’s mean and childish attitudes, but I only have to put up with it for 3 more weeks. Believe me, I'm strong and I'll make it. I've faced worse thugs. Bella smiles awkwardly
"Know."
That same night, after work and taking a shower, it was already past 11:00 pm when she decided to take a walk in the garden. The sky was starry and the moon was full. She sat on a garden bench to admire the night and think a little about everything that had happened up until that point. That's when she heard a deep and seductive voice echo in her ears, a voice she knew very well.
"Why aren't you in your room? Didn't I tell you I didn't want to bump into you walking around the house?"
"The night is beautiful, so I came to get some air here in the garden. I didn't think you would show up here at this time."
"The house is mine, so I can walk wherever I want and whenever I want."
"No need to be rude. I'm leaving now.” Bella gets up to leave and Dylan notices the bandage on her finger.
“What happened to your finger?”
“Nothing major. I hurt myself while doing my job. Wait! Are you worried men about me?” Bella feels a twinge of hope, but DK wouldn't admit it even if that were the case.
“No. I was just curious.”
“Hmm!”
However, as he watched Bella walk away, DK wondered how she had gotten hurt since her skills with knives or other weapons had always been excellent.
“Weird!” he furrowed his slightly thick eyebrows
“What’s weird, love?”
“Deanne, I already asked you not to call me that. Did you know Bella hurt her finger?”
“Okay. So what? Are you worried about that woman again?”
“It’s not worry, it’s weird.”
“I still don’t like this. Can we talk about the two of us for a change?”
“Sure! Tomorrow I’ll tell my father that we’ve set the date for the engagement party for next week. What do you think?”
“Wonderful!” Deanne jumped to hug DK and kiss him with the widest smile in the world because her plan was working.
Returning to her room and walking down the hallway, Bella hears someone coughing very loudly. She approaches the door and realizes that it was Alexander Kicher's room. Without delay, she enters and sees the man coughing up blood from his mouth, lying on the floor trying to breathe. She approaches to help him, but he refuses.
“Mr. Kicher, this is not the time to be arrogant. Let me help you. Come on hold on to me.” The fallen and weak man gives in and lets Bella take him to the bed, arranging the pillows comfortably.
“Now that you're settled, I'm going to chamed Dylan.”
“No! Not Dylan. Summon Rebecca, please!” Alexander asks with difficulty and Bella, even though she finds it strange, does what old Kicher asks, going to Rebecca's room, knocking on the door a few times because the blonde was sleeping soundly. When she finally woke up, she immediately scolded him:
“Bella Hahn?! What do you want at this hour? If someone has died, call the funeral home, and if someone is feeling unwell, call the ambulance. Now leave me alone.”
“Okay. I’ll tell Mr. Kicher about what you just told me to do.”
“Don’t do anything. Let me call his doctor and you can go. Thank you for chamed me.” Rebecca runs to her godfather’s room and Bella follows her.
As soon as the two arrive, Rebecca grabs an emergency oxygen kit that the doctor who was treating her left in case something happened. Bella tries to help as best she can, but Rebecca tries to reprimand her:
“Why are you doing this? I already told you to leave and go back to your room.”
“Let her help me. Call Dr. Chase, please.” Alexander looks at his goddaughter, who doesn’t like the idea at all, but in the emergency she obeys. While putting on the breathing mask, Bella wonders what illness the leader of the Kicher family had and something amazing comes to her mind:
“Mr. Kicher, I know you’re not in good condition right now, but your symptoms seem severe. Do you happen to have…”
“Cancer? Yes.”
