Chapter 46: Johnny reappears.
At the time she was celebrating the illness and possible death of her future father-in-law, Deanne did not expect to hear a childish, yet firm and determined voice behind her:
“Did you know it is rude to listen to other people’s conversations hidden behind the door?” Théo was holding the cell phone that Dylan had given him, as he was playing online, had taken a break because he had just lost and was waiting for another round. However, the woman who thought she was too smart when she saw the device in the boy’s hands (I think he was recording her) and took advantage of the fact that “no one” was watching, went after the boy with the intention of taking the cell phone. Théo takes a few steps back, not seeing the armchair behind him and falling into it. At that moment Deanne reaches him, grabbing the boy’s wrist tightly to take the device. He complains and kicks the woman who almost falls backwards, but she comes back even angrier, raising her hand to hit Théo and before she can do so:
“Don’t you dare lay a finger on my son, you crazy bitch.” Bella arrives, taking Theo away from the power-hungry and limitless woman.
“Your son kicked me.”
“He must have had a good reason.” Bella responds with a superior look without losing her cool, unlike Deanne who screams in anger.
“Aaah! Your she damn, your son kicks me and that’s what you answer me?”
At that moment, Alexander, Rebecca, the housekeeper who came right after Bella, and Dylan who came back because he had forgotten his gun, the one he considered to bring luck, and it was precisely he who asked all the questions:
“What’s going on here and why are you yelling Deanne?”
“This pest of your son kicked me.”
“My son has a name and what about the insult, look in the mirror and you’ll see the real bitch.”
“Silence Bella!” DK continues walking until he gets close to the boy
“Did you kick Deanne?”
“Yes, but it was because she grabbed my wrist and tried to take my cell phone.” Théo answers calmly, next to his mother.
“Why did you want to take the boy’s cell phone?” Alexander takes part in the conversation, finding his son’s girlfriend’s attitude strange, but she was already thinking of an answer to try to escape the blame.
“I thought he had taken my cell phone, which is very similar, I was just trying to get back what I thought was mine.” She makes a cute expression and smiles cynically at DK, who seemed like he was going to let it go once again, but Bella certainly didn’t.
“Seriously, dear? Then, why didn’t you just ask instead of trying to hurt my son? And what’s more, I’m not raising Théo to be a thief, he’s a member of one of the most important mafia families and doesn’t need to steal anything from anyone, unlike some people out there.” Bella stares at Deanne, who looks at the brunette with deadly hatred.
“Théo, didn’t you say anything that made Deanne angry?”
“I think she got angry when I said it was rude to listen to conversations behind the door.”
“It was just what was missing. Besides everything, are you a gossip? Were you secretly listening to my conversation with my godfather, crazy bitch?” Rebecca takes a few steps towards Deanne, who stands firm.
“I was just passing by, I didn’t mean to.”
“Liar Woman! I saw you standing there and after laughing and talking to yourself like you were celebrating.” Rebecca and Alexander look at each other
“What? You’re imagining things, cutie. I was just passing by, didn’t you hear me?”
“I heard you. But you’re lying and you know it and I know it.” Théo smiles and Deanne feels threatened, looking at the boy askance, but knowing that at the moment she couldn’t do anything and the one who didn’t like the way Dylan’s girlfriend looked at her son was Bella who immediately activated her protective instinct:
“Théo, go to your room and don’t come out until I tell you to and don’t open the door to anyone other than me.”
“Wow, why all this?” Deanne tries to mock
“It’s just that I realized I’m surrounded by enemies and I have to protect my greatest treasure. By the way, if you dare touch my son again, let it be recorded for everyone to hear… I’ll kill you, Deanne.” The tense atmosphere is cut short when Jacob arrives with some not-so-good news for the Kicher family:
“DK, the merchandise we were waiting for was diverted to the port of Deerfield Beach.”
“What do you mean? Who diverted it?”
“I think there was an infiltrated in this operation.”
“Do you think, Jacob? Find out who did it and reverse this situation.” DK shouts
“The port is in the name of…”
“Johnny Iverson!” Bella says along with DK’s subordinate and everyone looks at her.
“Your husband did this?” DK looks at her in surprise
“That's right. Johnny is very vengeful and if I know him well, he won’t stop with just this merchandise. If I were you, I would find out urgently who his people are who are infiltrated in your gang.” Bella is leaving when DK grabs her arm
“Could you help me find out who the infiltrators are, for old times’ sake?” Bella lets go of his arm
“For old times’ sake? Are you sure? I don’t want to. Our old times were not good for me or you. Look at the two of us now, Dylan. What we have left is hurt and resentment that is hard to forgive.” Dylan remains silent, but his father takes the initiative
“If not for him, then for this old man who is appealing to you. I can’t lose ten million dollars because of some stupid revenge that you two caused.”
Bella smiles with the honesty of Kicher Sr., “Okay Mr. Kicher, let’s forget about our rivalry for a while and I will help you, but I have some conditions.”
“Come to my office.” Bella follows him and notices that Rebecca was also there… “My first condition is that she stays out of this.”
“Godfather, you won’t obey, will you? I’m your right-hand man now.”
“Rebecca, wait outside and make sure no one hears our conversation.”
“This is so unfair.”
Inside the office, Bella begins to state her demands, and the first of them was that the port of Deerfield Beach be named after for Theo. He agrees, and the second condition was that he tell his son about his illness, because she thought he had the right to know.
“Dad, what is Bella talking about?” Dylan looks at Alexander, who smiles and says:
“It’s not just your husband who is vengeful, you are too. But I’ll let it slide this time.”
“Dad, stop messing around and tell me, what is this illness?”
“Dylan, I have lung cancer and it’s in a very advanced stage.” The gray-haired man sighs
“It can’t be.”
