Chapter 94: Under the Same Roof of Danger
The silence in the car was suffocating as DK drove back to the mansion. The feeling of defeat tightened his chest, and he could hardly believe that, despite all his efforts to be a good leader, there was a traitor among his men. As soon as he entered the main room, he dropped his keys on the table and sank onto the couch, massaging his temples with his hands.
"You should be worrying less about this nonsense of whether or not you are a good leader and more about finding out who the traitor is," Bella said, sitting down next to him.
Oliver, who still near the door, nodded. "I agree with Bella. We should check the security cameras. They might have picked up something."
Excited by the idea, DK stood up and the three of them headed to the video room. There, Oliver began to access the system.
"Okay, let's check the backup from the day before..."
However, after a few minutes, he huffed in frustration. "It's gone. All the backup footage has been erased. "This was planned from the beginning." DK punched the table, venting his frustration. "Without the cameras, it's going to be much harder to find out who it is." Bella, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed. "I have a suggestion." DK and Oliver turned to her, alert. "Fire them all. Or better yet, get rid of them all." The silence in the room was deafening. DK looked at Bella strangely, as if he couldn't believe what he had just heard.
"Are you crazy woman? We're talking about more than 15 men." "Then just do it with the ones who were in the room that day," Bella replied firmly. DK looked your advisor for support.
"You also think it's an exaggeration, don't you?" Before Oliver could respond, Bella approached him, irritated.
"It's either their lives or ours, DK. We're all under the same roof, and it's only a matter of time before the traitor tries something against us. Be coherent and think for a moment." DK shook his head.
"It's just one traitor, Bella. It's not fair to make everyone pay for the mistake of one." Bella snorted in disapproval.
"Watch your hesitation, DK. For much less, I saw my brother betrayed and killed. And it wasn't by just one subordinate, but by almost all of them."
"I'm not that weak. Don't worry," DK replied, his voice thick with pride. Bella glared at him with indifference.
"Wow, Dylan! You're such an asshole. My brother's mistake was trusting his men too much. I'm just trying to warn you." Without waiting for more words, Bella left the room, leaving DK to Oliver's silent disapproval. As she walked down the hallway, Bella spotted two of DK's subordinates, Ed and Patrick. They both greeted her with sympathy, but something in their eyes bothered her deeply. A shiver ran down her spine, and she hurried to her room.
As soon as she entered, she slammed the door shut, trying to feel safe. But something felt wrong. When she looked in the direction of her bed, her heart almost stopped. There, curled up between the sheets, was a Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnake, a venomous snake.
Bella let out a loud scream and froze, feeling fear taking over her body. She silently prayed that the animal would not move.
DK, hearing the scream, ran into the room. He found Bella in shock, pointing with a shaky gesture towards the bed. Without hesitation, DK grabbed a stick and carefully killed the snake before it could attack them.
"Oliver, throw that thing away," DK ordered, as he watched Bella.
She backed away, still shaking. When DK tried to hug her, Bella took a step back.
"Thank you for saving me from that poisonous animal, but I'm still very angry with you."
"I'm sorry, brunette! I was an idiot. I didn't mean to offend you, much less your brother," DK replied sincerely.
Bella stared at him, her voice full of tension. "Dylan, now do you believe we're in danger? And are we under the same roof as a traitor who wants to kill us?" DK took a deep breath, his be was somber. "Yes. But I think he'll stay in the shadows for now." Bella shook her head. "No. That poisonous snake on my bed is a warning. Either we find out who it is, or we'll die." While Bella was still struggling to calm down after the incident with the snake, in a secluded corner, Patrick was laughing out loud, with his cell phone in hand, telling Rebecca about his mischief. "You should have seen her face, Rebecca! She looked like she was going to faint from fear!" Patrick was laughing uncontrollably, as if he was feeding off the tension he had caused. Rebecca, on the other end of the line, smiled with satisfaction.
"You did a great job, as always, Patrick. But it's a shame Bella is still alive." Patrick laughed again.
"For now, Rebecca. I'm already thinking of another way. This time, I won't just scare her... I'll finish everything." Rebecca agreed, but remained cautious. "Be careful. They'll be more alert now. Be quick and discreet."
"You can trust me."" Patrick replied before hanging up. Rebecca put her cell phone in her pocket, a cold smile on her face, but was surprised by Johnny's voice. "May I ask what's going on here?" He approached with a glass of whiskey in his hand, his suspicious gaze fixed on Rebecca. She sighed and decided to tell him. "Patrick just updated me. The snake in Bella's bed was his idea. It seems to have worked, but unfortunately she's still alive." Johnny smiled, lifting the glass to his mouth and taking a long sip before to sit himself on the comfortable hotel sofa. "Interesting. And do you think we'll succeed this time?" "I hope so," Rebecca replied, put his hands on his waist. "Me too, or else you'll be the only one responsible for your ally's failure." Johnny laughed, raising his glass as if toasting. "If we fail, it will be a shared failure, or have you forgotten the faults of your subordinates?"
Bella was in the kitchen, still shaking, drinking a glass of sugar water. She was explaining to Nona, the housekeeper, what had happened.
"How dangerous, Miss Bella! Thank goodness nothing more serious happened," Nona said worriedly.
"Yes, it's true. I was very lucky again," Bella replied, trying to remain calm. DK entered the kitchen at that moment, looking seriously at Bella. "We need to find out who the traitor is, and quickly. Nona, did you happen to notice anything suspicious today?" The housekeeper thought for a moment before answering: "Well, earlier I saw Patrick carrying a wooden box into the house. But I don't know what it was or where he took it." "Son of a bitch!" DK exploded in anger, punching the counter. Bella grabbed his arm, trying to calm him down.
"We need to be sure. We can't accuse without proof. We're going to set a trap for him."
Later, DK and Bella gathered all their subordinates in the main room of the mansion. The atmosphere was tense, and suspicious looks hovered around the room.
DK stepped forward, His posture was firm and imposing as he studied the men's faces.
"We have important news," he began, his voice firm.
"What news, boss?" Ed asked curiously.
"We found Rebecca and Johnny. They're hiding in a hotel in East Miami. We're going to form two teams and leave in 20 minutes to put an end to this once and for all."
The men nodded, enthusiastic, and began to disperse to "get ready."
Patrick, as expected, moved away discreetly, pulling out his cell phone to make a call. As soon as Rebecca answered, he blurted out: "Rebecca, they found out you're in a hotel in East Miami. You need to get out of there immediately!"
On the other end of the line, Rebecca laughed disdainfully. "On the east side? Patrick, you're an idiot! I'm in South Miami, not East. They didn't discovered anything. They discovered you, you moron."
Patrick turned pale, dropping his phone to the floor. When he turned around, he found himself surrounded by DK, Bella, and other subordinates.
"So it was you all along, you son of a bitch," DK said, his voice thick with disappointment and fury.
Patrick fell to his knees, unable to meet DK's gaze.
