Chapter 65: A Dinner and a Kiss!
Bella and Carter talked about normal everyday things. The doctor never mentioned anything that could remind his new “friend” of her difficulties and stressful job. That night, she could have been just a normal woman having dinner with a “common” man. However, Carter tried to find out a little more about Bella, who for example
Casually told him about some of her tastes, such as that she preferred the heat to the cold because she didn’t like too many clothes on her body.
“I see. You like to feel free.” Carter smiles, adjusting his glasses closer to his eyes with his index finger.
“That’s it.” Bella smiled, observing the doctor a little better, because until that moment she had made a point of not even looking at him properly. And what did she notice? Carter has a very handsome face, slightly slanted eyes, a sharp nose, well-designed lips, short, straight hair with a few strands falling over his forehead. He is tall and has the athletic build of someone who works out constantly, but Bella had already realized it.
“Why are you looking at me like that, Miss Bella?” Carter stopped talking for a moment.
“Sorry, did I make you uncomfortable?”
“A little.” Carter smiled awkwardly.
“You have slanted eyes, I love them.”
“My father is from South Korea and my mother is from New York. But only now did you notice that my eyes are slanted? Geez! After that I think I’ll leave.” He pretends to be offended
“I’m sorry! And to tell you the truth, I had no intention of noticing you. But I was wrong. Please stay and have dinner with me, Dr. Carter.”
“I’m only staying because you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met and an opportunity like this only comes around once in a lifetime.”
“I love your sense of humor.” Bella smiles, showing her dimples.
“Oh my God! And you still have a charming smile. Please, Miss Bella, let me get to know you better.” The brunette turns serious again and looks at the doctor.
“How about we enjoy dinner and each other’s company for now?”
And finally, the waiter arrives to take their order and while they enjoy their pasta accompanied by a wine that, paired well with the dishes, in Bella's apartment, her son decides to call Dylan, who answers as soon as he reads his son's name on his cell phone screen, interrupting the meeting he was having with Rebecca, Oliver, Jacob and some other members of his team. Dylan was setting up a plot to find the weak point of Johnny and finally finish him off, but instead of returning the power to Bella, he planned to keep everything, but for now, talking to his son was more important:
“Son, what a nice surprise that you called me.”
“Yeah, at least I remembered that I have a father, unlike you who keeps forgetting that you have a son.”
“Wow, Théo! Don't talk like that. I never forgot you, but there was no way I could keep calling you, I would just stress your mother out. But you're right, I should have contacted you. Could you forgive me?”
“Okay!”
Father and son have a long conversation. Dylan asks how things are going there and Théo tells him everything he knew, about Johnny's subordinates that Bella had to deal with, and even about the Christmas tree they put up the day before. Théo tells him all excitedly.
“That's great, son. But can I ask you a question? How is your mother?”
“I think she's fine. She even went out to dinner today.”
“Dinner? With who?”
“With Dr. Carter, do you remember him?”
“Oh yeah? And what is that bastard doing there, if he works here in Miami?”
“He works at the hospital here and also lives here.”
“Dad?” Théo finds Dylan's silence on the phone strange and after a few more seconds, DK finally speaks again
“Son, could you give me your mother's personal number?”
“Okay!” Théo agrees to give Bella's number to his father. They talk a little more until the boy gets sleepy and turns off his cell phone. Back at Bella and Carter's dinner, they were almost done with dessert when the doctor tried a final move:
“Could you take me home, Miss Bella?”
Bella, on the other hand, stopped eating her tiramisu and looked at Carter, “Did you know there are still taxis at that time?”
“I know. I just wanted to prolong our date a little longer. After all, you are a very busy woman and I probably won't have another wonderful date like this with you again.”
“Okay. When you say that, there's no way I can refuse.”
After Crater paid the bill, it was time to leave. The doctor gave Bella the directions and soon the two arrived at the building where he lives.
“It's delivered.”
“Would you like to go upstairs and have some more wine with me?”
“Not today, another time.”
“Will we have another chance?” Carter asked excitedly.
“Who knows? I really enjoyed our dinner and getting to know you better, Dr. Carter Kwon.”
“I really enjoyed being with you today, Bella.” The doctor approaches the beautiful brunette to kiss her, but Bella's cell phone starts ringing. She looks at the screen that says "unknown number" and refuses the call. So this time, she takes the initiative to kiss Carter. Her cell phone rings again, but she simply ignores it. When she ends the kiss, it's a bit awkward at first, but then it becomes intense and heated.
"Good night, Doctor!" Bella smiled.
"Good night, Miss! Be careful on the way home."
"Okay!"
Carter finally gets out of the car and Bella continues her way back to her apartment. However, her cell phone doesn't stop ringing. She decides to pull over and answer it, to her surprise:
"Hello!"
"Hi, Brunette!"
"Dylan!? How did you get my personal phone number? Hmm! You don't need to tell me, it was Théo."
"Yes, he called me today. We talked a lot, you know?"
"Oh, that's great! I'm happy for you both."
"And how was your dinner with the doctor?"
"Why are you asking me this? I don't owe you an explanation for my life.”
“Stay calm! I only called because I missed you. Don't you miss me anymore?”
“I spent 11 years of my life missing you, Dylan. I've gotten used to it.”
“But I haven't.”
“That's your problem.” Bella hangs up the phone and cry of anger and frustration, letting out a scream as she slams her hands hard on the steering wheel of the car.
“Why do I still care about you, Dylan Kicher?”
