Chapter 97: Eyes in the Shadows
The night advanced when Rebecca and Andrew walked out of the side entrance of the Elysium nightclub together. The street was nearly deserted, lit only by the streetlights that cast long shadows on the clear, melted. snow.
“It was a good night,” Andrew said, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “You’re a good dancer.”
Rebecca straightened her coat, her body still warm from the dance
floor. “And you’re good company, despite a disastrous start.”
He laughed lightly. “You really don’t mince your words.”
“And I don’t intend to have.” She pulled her cell phone out of her purse. “Let’s exchange numbers. If we going to work together, I we need to be able to reach each other.”
Andrew punched the numbers directly into her phone. “Call me anytime. For work…or fun.”
Rebecca didn’t answer, just saved the contact. Their eyes met for a moment. Then she got into a taxi, waving briefly with a nonchalant gesture. Andrew stood there for a few seconds, watching the car disappear around the corner.
While Andrew was apparently getting along well with the beautiful blonde he had just met, someone was watching them from afar, and that someone was Susan's uncle's friend, who was in plain clothes drinking whiskey in a dark corner of the nightclub, a strategic place for anyone who wanted to observe people's movements. Robinson had the advantage because no one there knew him, and that was when he had the idea of asking questions about the man who was with the blonde; they seemed to be close friends. And that was the mistake of the old Hanh family employee, because he met a shrewd and articulate woman who suspected his intentions and invited him for a drink, pretending to be friendly. The woman with short black hair contrasted with her skin as white as the snow that fell on the quiet street, but what she hid behind her open smile and her red-painted lips was that she knew the man Robinson was asking about very well, because Andrew was her boss and lover. The beautiful woman wasted no time and, in a moment of distraction from the man who thought he was smart, she poured a clear liquid into his drink and just waited. When the liquid spilled onto the bar where Andrew and Rebecca had been a few minutes earlier, she called for backup, and two muscular men appeared and took Robinson to the back of the club, where the owner was already waiting.
"And who is this, Ester?"
"I still don't know, but since he was very curious about you, I brought him to meet you in person."
"Was he asking questions about me? Could he be an undercover cop?" Andrew frowned.
"I don't think so. He doesn't look like a cop, but I know he knows the blonde who was with you earlier."
"Hmm! Did you see? I hope you don't get jealous, she's just going to help me get back into business in Miami and in exchange I have to help her kidnap a certain someone."
"Apparently they're important people. I hope it doesn't go to shit like the last time when that's why we lost our space in Miami and had to come here with our tails between our legs." Ester expresses her frustration
"You won't believe it... It's Bella Hahn's son."
"So, we're finally going to get our revenge against the Hahn family? I loved it!" the black-haired woman smiles with the cruelest look
In the meantime, Robinson, who was tied with a chain and sitting with his back against the wall, begins to wake up.
"Hey boss! Look who's waking up..." one of the big guys points to the man who was already in his sixties.
"Where am I and who are you really? You don't seem like just a nightclub owner." Andrew smiles, approaching Robinson.
"Do you really think you're in a position to question me about anything, old man? I'll ask the questions here and if you don't answer them properly, you won't get out of here alive."
Robinson looks at Andrew. "Let's get this over with, what do you want to know?"
"How do you know the blonde who was with me?"
"She was Mr. Kicher's right-hand woman and when he died, DK kind of took over this position. In fact, she betrayed the Kichers and allied herself with Johnny Everson, Bella Hahn's ex-husband, who by the way is the one I'm trying to redeem myself with now."
"But that doesn't exactly explain how you know her." Ester joins the conversation.
"For some time after Johnny's betrayal, Evan the my friend and I were forced to serve him, until the two of us, with the help from him niece, escaped."
"Who is your friend's niece?"
"Susan!" "Bella Hanh's right-hand man? How interesting!"
"What else do you want from me?"
"Tell me about the boy's routine, Bella's son."
"I don't know. Even though I'm here in Miss Hahn's territory, me never given me the chance to show that both Evan and I have always been loyal to the Hahn family."
"Well, since that's the case, it's clear to me that you'll never have Miss Hahn's trust again. So, help me find out the boy's routine and I guarantee that here you'll have prestige and a lot of money."
Robinson thinks about the proposal for a few minutes and finally... "Okay. But if I do that, I just want enough money to disappear from the world, I don't want to ally myself with you."
"I'm fine with that." Andrew tells Esther to give Robinson a phone number.
"You have two days."
"Don't worry, I can do it in one. Just have my money."
“Get the basement ready,” he ordered. “I have to make a call to Rebecca early tomorrow morning. I think she’ll be happy to know we have an advantage.”
And while the city slept in the bitter cold of the early morning, the power games began to intensify. Rebecca slept like an angel, certain that her revenge was only a matter of time.
