Part B: Chapter 40

***Unknown’s POV***

My patience was slowly running thin. I needed things done as soon as possible. I couldn’t let her mate with him because that would undo all the hard-work I had done over the past few years. Damn those pathetic people, she was supposed to have done but it seems if I want things done properly then I had to do them myself.

“What did he say?” I asked, not looking at him as I looked outside at the beautiful scenery before me. I wasn’t ready to give up on all of this, not after all the hard-work and the endless arse kissing I had to go through before my plan finally started coming together.

“He asked for a background check on me as expected but we thought ahead of him and I provided the one we came up with,” he replied and then I felt him next to me.

I turned to look at me and his hair was perfectly swept behind with his suit hugging in all the right places as he held a whiskey glass in one hand. We couldn’t go back to how things were before this. “Did he believe you?”

“He took it but I sensed his Beta wasn’t happy with the exchange,” Julius replied. “I think they know something is up and we need her back before they realise what exactly it is.”

I sighed as I turned and walked behind my office desk. “We can’t have that,” I said, “but don’t worry, I have everything under control and I believe we won’t be disappointed with our inside person because we all want the same thing in the end.”

Julius turned to look at me. “How do you know we can trust them? What if they betray us in the end?”

I scoffed, “that won’t happen but if it did, I have everything under control and no one will be the wiser and place the blame on us.” I’d spent years planning all this and everything went to hell when we found out that she was still alive. But thankfully I had thought of that as a possibility and planned ahead otherwise we would have been caught by now. “Does she remember anything at all?”

Julius walked over and took the seat opposite mine. He took a tentative sip from his glass, cringed and then placed it on the desk.

“Why do you even take that if you can’t stand it?”

“Because it comes with its status,” Julius replied coolly. “He didn’t say anything but from their reactions I deduced that it’s either she remembers but didn’t tell them or she doesn’t remember anything at all. Both scenarios work in our favour.”

“I suppose so, but we have to move fast before she either tells them or she remembers and then comes after us.”

I leaned back in my chair, taking everything in. “If she does, I highly doubt she knows we are the ones behind everything that happened to her and her parents.” I knew we were safe, for now that is. The only thing we had to worry about was her coming back and making a claim to everything. Something that I wouldn’t let happen no matter what. “We need to finish what we started before that mating ceremony takes place because chances of her remembering everything will be higher. You know how those things go.”
Julius sighed as he crossed one leg over the other. “I remember it all, I was there that day.”

“Exactly, so pester him if need be to make him give her back to us, even if it’s just in the ruse of a visit,” I snapped, hitting the table hard and making it splinter. “I will not let her take everything away from us. Not then, not now and not ever.”

Julius flinched back from my angry outburst. “Don’t you also think that her mating with him will be in our benefit because she will be his problem and not ours?” he just had to ask the stupidest of questions. “I mean, isn’t there always a silver lining in every situation?”

“Julius, if I knew you were this stupid I wouldn’t have told you about everything and you would still be on the sidelines watching like a fool,” I snapped. “It doesn’t matter whether she mates with him or not, we would both be royally screwed and hang to death for our crimes, don’t you know anything?”

He nervously laughed as he rubbed the back of his neck. “Sorry, I wasn’t thinking.”

“Of course you weren’t thinking otherwise you would have realised just how stupid that sounded before you even said it out loud.”

I knew I was hard on him but he didn’t know what it was like to always be disregarded and overlooked every time by our parents in favour of the oldest child. I hated always having my light dimmed and this was my chance to shine bright and I didn’t care who I had to eliminate to get what I wanted.

“Make sure you do your part accordingly and leave the rest to me. After all, none of this would have been possible if I left everything to you,” I growled, feeling the anger still boiling underneath my skin. “Leave me.”

Julius got up, “I won’t disappoint you,” he said sincerely which made me roll my eyes. His stupidest really would be the end of him.

“Like you did last time?” I asked, learning forward with my fingers interlaced. “If you didn’t want to disappoint me, then you should ensure that she was dead and hadn’t survived but look where we are again.”

“I’ve apologised for that, I know I should have taken extra care. When are you going to let me leave it down?” he asked with a slight twinge to his voice. I could see he was getting frustrated with me but I couldn’t care less. It was all his fault we were in this mess in the first place. “I will ensure that this time everything is done according to plan.”
“You better, otherwise I will have your head and let’s see you survive that.”

He bowed slightly then walked out of my office. I pushed away from the desk and stood up. Instead of heading for lunch, I poured myself a glass of whiskey and gulped it all down. The taste soothed my anger and I was back to smiling. Now that I was in the driver’s seat, I was not going back to the passenger’s seat.

“This time I will ensure that I finish the job,” I said out loud to myself as I poured myself yet another glass and picked up my phone. The person picked up on the second ring. “If you screw up I will kill you and I always leave up to my threats.”
