Part D: Chapter 77
***Aidan’s POV***
I was panicking and I didn’t like it. Just one more bloody day until I would be officially linked to that crazy woman for the rest of my life. I had to find her as soon as possible. I turned to him and glared at him.
“Tell me you have something solid we can work with because I cannot go through with that crazy idea. I have to find her today or tomorrow I am screwed royally.”
He laughed as he leaned back in the chair. “Relax Alpha, we will find her soon,” he answered as he swirled the alcohol in the glass. I told you to leave everything to me and only contact me when it was important. This however is not important and is just you allowing your emotions to get the best of you and quite frankly, I do not have time for your emotional turmoil.”
I narrowed my eyes on him. “Then why don’t I have her here with me if that is all you are doing?” I growled.
“Calm down or they will know you are talking to someone and give everything away,” he said with a sigh. “That’s because you will have her when it’s time to have her. But for now, all you can do is hang in there and suck it up. Shel isn’t that ugly anyway so that shouldn’t be such a problem.”
I was getting pissed off by the second. Everything he said made me more angry and I wanted nothing more than to squash his head in. My eyes landed on the new decorations that she had made and I mentally cringed. My house no longer looked like the one that I loved and cherished, now it was tainted by her feminine touch which was too bright for my eyes.
“Take a look around the place, does it look like I’m still sane?”
He looked around the room and smirked as his eyes landed on me. “Lovely decorations, who would have pegged you as a pink kind of man,” he said, enjoying himself more than I liked. “It adds so much more sparkle in your life that I didn’t know you truly needed.”
“Shut up, this place looked so horrible,” I said as I walked over to the minibar which was now filled with so many ladylike drinks and colour that I was disturbed at being in my own house and I couldn’t leave it because they wanted me where they could see me. Truly, this was too much for me to handle. How had I managed to survive so long in such isolation? I poured myself a drink and walked to the kitchen where I grabbed some snacks and brought them back to the living room. “At least they still think about restocking my food supply and sometimes Esther brings me something to eat.”
He laughed as he picked up an Oreo and split it in half, removing the cream and then eating it before he placed the biscuit back on the plate and sat back. “Because if you die of starvation then someone else would have a claim to the title and Gerald won’t have it.”
“But I’m slowly running my mind. I finished all my work for the entire month, worked out like crazy and even tried my hand at poetry,” I sighed as I leaned back against the couch and drank from my glass. “Why do I keep drinking this crap anyway?”
He laughed again, “because you like it deep down,” he replied casually. “And besides, you had chosen this life for yourself thinking it was the best approach to get all the attention off of you. Now you complain about it?”
I looked around the place I called my home but now looked very unrecognisable. I gulped down the contents of the and placed the glass on the table before picking up an Oreo and eating it. I loved these things but sometimes they felt too sweet for me but they were Mum’s favourites and whenever I had one, I always felt as if she was still here with me. It was all I could do to still feel closer to her. “I’m not complaining, I just want to finally live my life the way I had initially planned on for so long,” I replied with a sigh. “Then she came into my life and filled that void that I knew existed but was too proud to admit I was empty inside. She made me feel things that I never felt before and for once, I wanted and was determined to be there and protect someone with all my life. I had more meaning and purpose to actually continue living.”
There was silence that followed after that but I didn’t care that I had said something so deep when I wasn’t known for being so open about my feelings.
“Damn dude, that was deep even for me,” he finally said, pulling my attention back to my surroundings. “She really did change you in such a small amount of time. You aren’t the Aidan I was used to. You are like a totally different person now, all grown up and can actually admit his feelings. I’m proud of you.”
“Shut up, I didn’t say all this for you to tell me all this crap,” I replied with an eye roll. “And I was always much better at everything than you except for understanding what people felt.”
“And that was where I succeeded in being loved by everyone. I may not have had the looks, but I sure made them stick around,” he said with a knowing smirk.
“Why is everything a competition with you,” I shook my head. I knew what he was trying to do and that was not going to work on me this time. I wasn’t about to feed his ego but telling him he was actually admired by lots of females during our time. I also had my own ego to protect. “Anyway, find her and bring her back to me before I have to go through wit everything planned for tomorrow. For some reason, we are going to skip the hunt and only focus on the pool when the moon is at its highest peak.”
“Is that like against all that we were taught growing up?”
“I brought up that same argument but it seems like the Oracle foretold that we should skip all the other stuff because the Goddess is with us. However, the Oracle said something that intrigued me. Something about it being a special day when she would show herself to all her children. What do you think that means?”
He remained quiet for a while before he finally answered. “I don’t know, the Oracle is known for never saying things as they are and always implying something much more than the words said mean,” he said in thought, “for someone else, it might seem like the Goddess will actually appear to us but then it might not. Honestly, we will see how it goes tomorrow.”
“I just hope I can make it through without killing anyone until she returns to my side. Otherwise I may just commit a sin on such an auspicious day.”
He smiled as he stood up, and bent down to place the glass on the table. “You hang in there for me until I can get back to you,” he said as he walked past me and placed a hand on my shoulder. “Just a little bit longer and your happiness as well as her freedom will be guaranteed.” Then he went through my office.
I sighed as I thought about what tomorrow had in store for me. Please Goddess, return her to me safely before I end up having to go against your true wish, I said to myself before I stood up and walked to the bathroom to freshen up. Tomorrow was going to either make or break me.
