Part D: Chapter 80
***One Year Later***
“Aidan, I think my water just broke,” Jemila shouted from the bedroom and I nearly fell off the couch as I rushed over to her, stumbling on my own feet. “Hurry.”
I was in the bedroom and she was breathing heavily as she sat at the edge of the bed and I rushed over to her, grabbing her hand and using the other hand to grab my phone from my pocket and dial Carter.
“Oh my!” she said, breathing heavily as she held my hand with a death grip.
“Hang in there for me Jem,” I said soothingly just as Carter picked up. “Get your arse here, it’s time and we need to get her fully prepared.”
“Fuck, right now,” Carter said. Jemila’s grip on my hand was painful but I could endure the pain for her, after all, she was giving birth to our child and that was the least that I could do. “Give me ten minutes and I will be there. I was...out.”
I mentally rolled my eyes at that because I knew exactly what he meant by that. He was at Ivana’s place, something that I still couldn’t believe happened. I guess his persistence actually paid off because they had been seeing each other for over three months now. “Just get your arse here as soon as possible or you will not only face my wrath but hers too.” And then I hung up and turned my attention to my beautiful wife and the mother of our unborn child who was destined to be the next Goddess when the time was right. “Breath, in and out for me love.”
“I need this thing out of me right now,” she said, still clutching tightly onto my hand. “In and out like the doctor showed us.”
Jemila breathed in and then out but then screamed, “no, no, no. If I had known this was how painful it was going to be then I wouldn’t have had sex with you,” she said through gritted teeth.
I opened my mouth to say something but she glared at me so hard that I closed my mouth shut. “You're not the one going through this, so please spare me the crap,” she said and then tried to stand up. I was quick and helped her to her feet. “Where the hell is Carter, this thing isn’t going to give birth to itself.” She waddled slowly to the door with her hand still gripping tightly onto mine.
“He is here little wolf,” Carter said as he peaked his head through the door with Ivan by his side and there was a huge smile on her face. “Your Beta is here to the rescue and to make the baby’s birth as smooth as possible.”
“Don’t you get me started,” Jemila said and the smile on Carter’s face fell as he rushed in and picked up the bags that we had packed in preparation for the birth of the first child and most special child. “Get this thing out of me...now.” She practically shouted, her voice echoing off the walls.
“The elders and Oracle are ready for her arrival,” Ivan said as he bowed his head. The bullet that had gone through was thankfully not a silver one otherwise he wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t have my friend with me. During his hospital stay, Shel had been by his side the whole time and from what I could now see, it seemed like they finally got together though Ivan would never tell me whenever I brought it up so I left it at that. “The guards are waiting for you both.”
“There is no need to be formal with everything, we are all friends here and Aidan forgave you a long time ago,” Carter said with a sigh as he walked past us and out of the house. “Now hurry, we don’t want to keep the Oracle waiting because we all know how it gets when that happens.”
A shiver ran through me as I recalled the one time that Gerald had kept it waiting and how pissed off it had been. Let’s just say that no one ever wanted to get on it’s bad side after that. I helped Jemila as best as I could with how much pain she was in. At some point, I just wanted to lift her but I knew that wasn’t what she wanted and I was not going to do what she didn’t want.
We finally left the house and got into the car that took us to the birthing place, a sacred place since the Goddess had chosen it. It was going to be the first birth down where the Oracle was present which just made the whole thing real. Our child really was blessed by the Goddess herself and there was nothing that could be done to stop the fate from happening. I was going to lose my child once it was delivered. My heart sank at that thought but I pushed it away, if I felt like this, then how did Jemila feel about the whole thing?
When we got to the place, I helped Jemila out of the car while Carter and Ivan rushed around and took the bags inside. I could feel my heart beating in my throat at the fact that I will never be able to hold her and call her my child but if this was what the Goddess wanted then so be it. I just had to accept it. I helped Jemila all the way to the door where one of the elder women took her hand and walked her inside while the other stopped me from going inside.
“You can’t be serious right now,” I said in frustration as I tossed my hands up in the air. “I’m the Alpha for crying out and she is my wife on top of that.”
“I’m sorry Alpha, but we cannot allow you in,” the elder said with an apologetic expression.
I was about to budge when Carter walked out and grabbed me by the hand, dragging me away from the door before I made a scene. “Hey, I was talking,” I said as we finally stopped a good distance from.
“Breath and calm the fucking down before the Oracle kicks you away from here and you won’t get to see her,” Carter groaned and then sighed when I narrowed my eyes at him. “Sorry, we all are stressed about this and I know it’s hard on you because you won’t get to raise your daughter but please, just don’t make a scene and let things play out as they are supposed to.” He ran his fingers through his hair, showing just how tired he was.
“But it isn’t fair,” I sighed as I leaned against the tree trunk and looked at the place where Jemila had gone. It was one of newly built places outside the pack boundaries. “I know I should be happy about it and everything but she is still my daughter and I won’t get to wake up every morning and see her little face before I go for work, just how fucked up is that?”
“It is fucked up but it’s also the best thing that has ever happened to our pack,” Carter said and placed a hand on my shoulder. “I know it sucks but you and Jem will have more kids and your first daughter will look out for her siblings. That’s something that has never happened before. Your daughter will be loved and cherished but all lycans and that will never change.”
I took a deep breath, feeling my chest tighten and then loosen. “I know, but that still doesn’t change how I feel and I know with time I will accept it,” I said and turned my attention to him. “Thanks for stopping me from making a huge mistake back there.”
“Anytime Alpha, I always got your back, Brothers for life,” he said with a tired smile.
We stood out there, both of us lost in our own thoughts until the Oracle walked out of the house with the baby and suddenly my world felt like it was crumbling. I pushed away from the tree and rushed over but Carter stopped me.
“You have to let me see her just once,” I could feel tears threatening to fall as I walked the Oracle walk away. I sighed and walked into the house where Jemila was lying on the bed with tears in her eyes. “I’m sorry.”
She held my hand and squeezed. “It was always going to end like this, But she will be out there looking out for us and everyone.” A tear slipped down her face. “Destiny brought us together and we will have more children.”
“I know and I love you.” I placed my forehead against hers and closed my eyes.
“I love you.”
