Part C: Chapter 68
I woke up groaning because I couldn’t remember how I had fallen asleep in the first place. I took in my surroundings and I was back in my room but I couldn’t remember how I had found myself back here. The last thing that I remembered was being out with Sean and Carter after Sean decided that Carter and I needed a break from all pack activities and needed to just have some out time.
I clutched my head as I sat up in bed, my head was spinning as I pushed myself from my bed and all the way to the bathroom where I stood and looked at my reflection in the mirror. There were dark circles under my eyes and my hair looked like I had my fingers through it one to many times while I was unrecognisable even to myself. I looked away from the mirror and turned on the faucet, taking water in my hands and splashing it on my face.
What the hell had we done yesterday for me to be able to remember exactly what had happened? Usually I was the one with the best memory concerning whatever happened when we went out but I couldn’t remember anything and that bothered me more than I liked. I was supposed to always be the responsible one in our group but for some reason, it seemed like whatever Sean had had them put in our drinks had messed me up badly.
I pushed myself from the sink and dragged my body all the way to the shower where I stripped from my clothes and let the hot water sooth my body while my head leaned against the wall because I felt like I was going to fall if I even so much as trusted my own strength. I washed up as fast as I could and when I was done, I felt slightly better and I was able to move by myself without as much support as before. I wrapped a towel around myself and grabbed another one of drying off my hair as I walked back into my room where I found a worse looking Carter lying face up on my bed.
“Didn’t they teach you how to knock on other people’s homes?” I asked as I made my way to my closet and picked out a suit for work. “Seriously, you look like crap.”
Carter groaned from my bed as he rolled on his side so that he was facing me, both hands holding onto his head. “Can you not shout? My head is killing me,” he groaned. “I don’t know what was in those drinks but that’s the last time that I trust Danvers for anything. I can’t feel my own head.”
I shook my head because moments ago I had felt the same way he was feeling. “Go and take a hot shower, that should help with the fogginess and I’ll ask Esther to bring us something oily to eat for the toxins to leave our systems quickly because we have an important day in the office today.” I looked at him waiting for him to get going so I could change in peace. Just because he was my best friend didn’t mean I was to be naked in front of him. That was a line I was not about to cross now or ever. “Hurry, I’d like to change while you’re out.”
Carter groaned again as he sat up and tried to glare at me but failed miserably. “You’re so mean, you can’t even be considerate of your best friend,” he flailed his hands in the air and then flopped back onto the bed with a loud sigh. “Besides, why can’t you change in front of me? Aren’t we best friends?” I could hear the pout in his voice as he said that.
“Just because we are friends doesn’t mean I want you seeing me naked in my own house. Now, get out and take that shower,” I barked loudly which made him hold onto his head once more.
“Gee, so rude,” he said as he stood up and made his way to my bathroom.
I shook my head as I changed and made sure I looked presentable with less of the dark circles under my eyes. I had no intention of making Ivana worry and ask questions which I had no answers to.
I called Esther and asked her to have the oiliest foods served to us along with strong cups of coffee, not that that would do anything provided our fast metabolism and healing. But whatever Sean had made us drink, was something I never wanted a repeat of. I had never gotten a hangover in my life and I know after one night with him, I couldn’t even remember the details of the night.
It took Carter well longer than it had taken me to come out of the bedroom and meet me in the dining area where I was sitting sipping on my cup of coffee while the food sat in front of me untouched.
“Took you long enough,” I said without looking up from my phone. “I was about to begin without you considering that is what you tend to do.” I finally looked up at him when I heard the chair opposite me being dragged against the wooden surface. Carter was dressed in a grey suit that I had Esther deliver on her way because there was no way I was letting him wear my clothes much less have him walk back half naked to his quarters. I wasn’t that heartless.
“Thanks for having Esther bring over my suit. I didn’t think it through when I hoped in your shower,” he said he poured himself a mug of coffee and drank from it before realising there was no sugar which made me smile against my mug. “I feel much better than before, that doesn’t mean I still don’t want to kick Danvers’ arse for whatever crap he gave us yesterday.”
I chuckled as I placed the mug back on the table and opened up the dishes in front of me. The plates were filled with eggs, bacon, sausages and everything in between all looking every oily. “I have to admit that it kind of feels great to actually be hangover for a change even though the effects are wearing off now,” I said as I plated my plate and started eating.
I looked at Carter and there was a look of shock that morphed into confusion which only made me laugh. “Don’t you agree with me *Beta*?”
“Are you crazy? Did he give you a higher dose than mine for you to be speaking such nonsense *Alpha*?” he asked once he had actually processed what I had said. “Yes, I no longer like shit but that doesn’t mean I liked giving up control even for a few hours. That’s a few hours too long for my liking.”
I sighed as I continued eating, “you have to look at things from a brighter side because now we know what it would take for us to be drugged and we can prepare for it adequately,” I said as I picked up my mug and took a tentative sip, letting the hot coffee refresh me.
“Did you ask him to do that to us?”
I simply shrugged as I continued eating. “You did, didn’t you and you couldn’t even bother to tell me what you were planning.”
“You wouldn’t have consented to it,” I answered simply and wiped my hands and mouth with my serviette as I stood up. “Eat up, you’ll find me in the office.” I tossed the serviette, picked up my phone and walked out of my own house, leaving Carter alone.

“Our plan failed, what do we do next?” I asked when Carter had closed the door behind him and I turned my attention to Sean who was sitting in front of me. “I don’t think we have any more time to lose.”
Sean sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair while Carter sat down. “Someone looks like they had a great night,” he commented, a smirk tugging at his lips.
“Shut it Danvers, I’m still pissed off with both of you but this isn’t the time or place to harsh out our differences,” Carter snapped, his eyes narrowed into thin slits.
“Fine, fine,” Sean wavered him off. “From what you told me, it seems like Ivan is already against you and you should be prepared for what’s going to happen next.”
“But how do we catch him and them in the act?”
Sean smiled devilishly at that as he leaned closer and motioned for us to do the same. “That was the backup plan, here’s what we are truly going to do.”
