Part D: Chapter 72

There was a knock on my door followed by someone saying. “Alpha, your father and sister are here to see you.”

I took a deep breath to calm myself from doing anything stupid at this point because there were only ten days left until the mating ceremony and every moment that drew us closer to that day met I was getting bombarded with visits from either Gerald or Shelly and sometimes even Ivan which all didn’t make sense. I knew Gerald wanted to have the power he once had and something told me he was now certain he was going to get it back, all of it.

I tacked away the papers I had been going over and went to open the door with a scowl plastered on my face. “What do you want now? I thought I answered all your questions yesterday and the day before that,” I said through clenched teeth. Looking at their faces made me want to punch something so hard.

Gerald narrowed his eyes at me while Shel rolled her eyes at me and pushed her way inside without any invite whatsoever. “I’m here to decorate,” Shel said as I closed the door behind me and turned to face her with a bored expression. “This is going to be my new home so I want to make it as comfortable as possible.” She seemed very happy and that annoyed me.

I glared at Gerald who had made himself comfortable on my couch, his cane next to his foot while Shel went all over the place taking everything in.

“How can you live like this? There is no colour anywhere,” she huffed as she turned to face me, her hands crossed over her chest. “I know you like minimalism but this is just taking it a step way too far.”

I took a deep breath and walked to the dining table where I pulled a chair and sat down, subtly looking around to make sure I hadn’t left anything where it wasn’t supposed to be. “I like minimalism and it’s my house so I can do whatever I want with it,” I answered coolly. “And if you think I will allow you to change anything then you have another thing coming.” I was glaring at Gerald who was removing papers from a folder I hadn’t noticed him carrying. “And you, what brings you here again?” I asked, directly my question to him.

“I need you to sign some papers, nothing too complicated,” Gerald answered as Shel made her way into my bedroom and screamed so loud I had to cover my ears.

She came rushing out of the bedroom with a horrified look on her face. “How could you?” she said, her chest heaving up and down. “For crying out loud Aidan, why do you choose to live like a common Omega when we have so much money?”

I mentally rolled my eyes, not caring about her latest tantrum because I was now focussed on what these papers were that Gerald wanted me to sign. “You, shut it and sit somewhere I can keep my eyes on you,” I said, pointing my heated glare at her and then turned my attention back to Gerald. “What kind of papers are they? I will not be signing anything I haven’t read or had my lawyers look into.”

Gerald sighed as he sat up straight. “Son, you don’t have to take everything so seriously. Learn to act in the moment and get things down in time,” he said, using that patronising voice of his on me. “It’s not that serious that you need to get lawyers involved.”

He was dodging my question which confirmed my suspicion. He was trying to have me sign something over to either him or Shel but that was not going to happen. I stood up and made my way over to the couch where I picked up the folder and scanned through its contents. “You want me to sign half of my shares to Shel and make you the trustee,” I said, eyeing him up and down, if he thought I was that stupid, then he had another thing coming. “And why would I do that when you both have your own shares?” I tossed the folder back onto the table and sat down, one leg crossed over the other with an agitated look on my face. “Do you take me for a fool to request such a thing from me?”

Shelly was the one to answer, coming to her father’s defence as usual. “I don’t know why you’re making such a big deal out of this. We are going to become husband and wife soon and what’s yours will be mine,” she answered with an eye roll as if she was talking to a child. “Why can’t you just sign the papers and we can forget about it?”

I arched an eyebrow at the both of them, they really were trying to play me for a fool weren’t they? “Firstly,” I began, counting it on my fingers, “you must have mistaken me for a fool to do such a stupid thing. Secondly, what’s mine isn’t and will never be yours. Get a bloody job and earn more money if you need it because I’m not giving you anything from me. And lastly, I want you both to get it inside those thick skulls of yours that the only reason I’m even doing this in the first place is for my people, not you. Are we clear on all of that?” I asked as I interlaced my fingers together in front of me. “And for you, if you want to change up my house, the only things I will agree to are minor changes and nothing more. You will not paint my walls a different colour and neither will we be sharing the same bed. You can take the spare room for your troubles and do whatever it is you wish to do.”

I looked at both of them sternly. “If that is all, you can show yourselves out. Unlike both of you, I actually have work to attend to since I haven’t been in the office for days now thanks to you.” I stood up and waited for them to get up but they didn’t. “Is your hearing impaired? Get the fuck out of my house already.” I growled.

The both of them scrambled to their feet and dashed past me, well, Gerald limped his way past me, leaving the folder on my table. I picked it up and called them back.

You forgot your trash,” I said, tossing it to Gerald’s face and watching as they fall to the ground. “I don’t ever want you to bring this up because then you would just be testing my patience and from the looks of it, I’m not so patient when it comes to people taking me for a fool.” I watched as Shel knelt down and picked them up and they left.

“You will regret doing this Son, you are making a very big mistake and all for what? Nothing,” Gerald called as Shel closed the door behind them.

I brushed his words off and walked back to my office where I resumed what I was doing, going through the company’s financial records and noticing all the anomalies that shouldn’t have been there. No doubt someone was stealing from me and I knew who it was. If they thought I was a puppet they could push and order around, they had another thing coming.

I picked up my phone and called Ivana who answered on the first ring. “Ivana, I need you to forward me some documents. You will find them on my laptop in my office,” I said once she’d picked up, “And make sure everything is discretely done, this is a sensitive matter.”

“All right sir,” she said and I hung up. I had so much more to live for now.
