Part C: Chapter 51

***Aidan’s POV***

I was stuck at the office finishing up papers that the board had requested. It was frustrating because I still had no information with regards to Jemila’s whereabouts and I knew this was a better option than burning a hole in the carpet from pacing about so much.

My office door opened and I looked up. Ivana entered, wearing that smile and charisma I had once appreciated but that had gotten Carter hooked from the start.

“Sir, your sister is here to see you,” she said, looking from her clipboard and then back at me. “I told her you were busy but she insisted on seeing you. Should I let her in or call security to have her removed from the premises?” Her straight face made me smile. “You don’t have to be bothered by her when you are busy. It doesn’t matter if she is your sister or not. Rules are rules and they are meant to be followed.”

I liked how she never referred to Gerald and Shelly as board members but as simply people I would choose to see or not. And if they insisted, she had the right to call security on them and have them escorted off the premises. One of the few reasons I appreciated hiring her.

“Did she say what she wanted?” I sighed, looking over at the amount of work that I still had to finish up.

“No, she just said it was important and that she couldn’t wait for you to get home in order to discuss it,” Ivana replied, looking at me straight. “If she bothers you, I will call security and they will have her thrown from the premises. Just give the word and it’s done.”

I smiled at her bluntness. “Thank you Ivana, but I think I can handle it,” I replied. “Let her in.”

Ivana nodded and left. Moments later, Shelly walked in wearing a really tight looking brown pencil skirt with a matching brown crop-top and high heels. She also had a clutch in one hand with her phone in the other.

“How much do you need this time?” I asked even before she sat down.

Shelly narrowed her eyes at me as she finally sat down with one leg crossed over the other. “That’s so rude, you can’t even ask what I'm doing,” she replied coldly.
“From the looks of it, you are well and from my end, that means you need something, preferably money because you blew through your allowance again buying stupid things.”'

“That’s not why I’m here,” she replied. “But that also doesn’t mean that I don’t need it. I’m getting too old for that amount anyway.”

I placed my pen down on the and interlaced my fingers together as I stared her down. “Maybe you should get a job and stop acting like such a child if you’re that grown-up,” I countered, watching as her face wrinkled in disgust at the thought of getting a job. “You should start providing for yourself and that means getting a job if you want to buy expensive things.”

“Ew, why would I do that when we have companies that make tens of millions every year for my leisure,” she answered. “You were given this position so that I didn’t have to find a job and get my hands dirty.”

I shook my head, Gerald had raised her to be a spoilt brat and I had enough of her whining. “If that’s all you needed, the answer is no. I will not increase your allowance and if you have a problem with that, then I suggest getting a job,” I replied, picking up my pen and going back to reading through the documents in front of me.

“I was still talking to you, you can’t just ignore me like that Aidan,” she huffed. She was slowly starting to get on my nerves but I had to keep my composure and not give her what she wanted. “Anyway, we can discuss my allowance later. I came here to find out about Jemila. I know she got kidnapped again and you don’t want to tell anyone about it.”

I felt my whole body freeze as I slowly lifted my head and looked at her, trying to not to kill her right there on the spot. “What did you just say?”

Shelly rolled her eyes. “Look, it’s basically common sense and anyone with a brain can figure it out,” she answered. “She got taken and you blame yourself, blah, blah, blah. Can’t you see that it’s all signs from the Goddess that you two aren’t meant for each other. You need to find someone else especially with how the day of the mating ceremony is fast approaching and you know what that will mean if you still don’t have a mate by then.”

All I could hear was blood rushing to my ears. She had to be kidding me. This all had to be some big joke that she was playing on me otherwise I was going to kill her and not regret it.

“You will go crazy if you still don’t have a mate or someone with a mate may decide to challenge you and you won’t be strong enough to fight them.” She was still talking. “You have to let her go. Who knows, maybe she is with Sean again while you spend your days worrying about her for nothing. Just listen to me Aidan. She doesn’t deserve you.”
Both my wolf and I were pissed off. She needed to shut up before we ended up doing something that we couldn’t take back. “Shelly?” I said, trying to keep my voice as calm as possible.

“Yeah?”

“I need you to shut up before I kill you right here and now.” I was going to kill whoever it was that had told her about this. It was supposed to remain under wraps because I was working on it. The more people knew about it, the more chances that it was going to be harder to find her because the traitor would also know we were onto them and I couldn’t risk that. I had to find her.

“No you won’t and I know you don’t want to hear this, but I have to tell you. She was never met to be with you,” Shelly continued, not caring about what I had just told her. “That girl was nothing more than a gold digger and all she wanted was your money.”

“Like you do?” I snapped.

“It’s technically also my money so I’m not a gold digger,” she replied with an eye roll. “But listen to me, you don’t have much time left. Just do the right thing and find someone else.” She got to her feet.

It took everything in me to remain seated and not lay a finger on her. “And who do you suppose that worthy person is?” I asked through gritted teeth while my hands were clenched into fists under the desk.

Shelly turned around, a smile on her face. “That’s what I’m talking about,” she said. “It’s easy, me. Always has been.”

Everything in the room went eerily quiet and I was sure I could hear a pin drop.
