Part B: Chapter 41
***Jemila’s POV***
*"Jemila honey, is that you?” I heard mum’s voice call out from the living room.*
*I closed the front door behind me then took off my shoes and tossed my bag on the floor as I walked to the living room where her voice was coming from. When I got there, I found her surrounded by a bunch of papers and folders.*
*“What’s going on?” I joined her on the couch, trying to get a glimpse of the document she was holding but she pulled it away from my sight. “Come on, just let me see.” I know I sounded like a whining child but whatever.*
*Mum laughed as she closed the folder that was on her lap. “It’s not yet time for you to know about these things, maybe once you’re in university your dad and I will think about letting you in on the family business.”*
*“I’m smart enough to understand what it is. You don’t always have to treat me like I’m a child,” I said with a huff.*
*“Maybe if you started acting like an adult we wouldn’t treat you like a child all the time,” she replied.*
*I sighed then wrapped my arms around her waist, hugging her and inhaling her familiar scent. She smelled like lavender and flowers. “I’m smarter than all the kids in my grade and the teachers even suggested I skip a grade or two.”*
*“Your headmaster called us about that,” mum said as she smoothed down my hair. “But your father and I don’t think it’s a good idea to make you skip grades especially when your best friend will be a grade below you.”*
*I hadn’t thought of it like that. I loved hanging out with her and she was like the sister I never had but if I skipped grades then she’d start hanging out with people who weren’t like me due to our different schedules and I’d be all alone again. “I guess you are right,” I replied with a huff. “I don’t want to be alone because all the kids already know each other and I will be an outcast, not like I’m not already one.”*
*“That’s because you like making rash decisions like your father used to back then,” mum said. “Go and take a shower while I make something for you to eat.”*
*I hugged her tighter, I didn’t want to let her go which only made her laugh as she pried away my hands from around her. “Go, go or you won’t find anything to eat.”*
*Sighing, I got up from the couch and ran to my room where I tossed my uniform on the bed then rushed into the shower. I took a quick shower then threw on some shorts and a crop top and ran back downstairs barefoot. I found mum in the kitchen making sandwiches. I risked a glance back in the living room but all the papers and folders were not there anymore.*
*“Nice try, I placed them where they should be,” she said and I turned around with an innocent smile on face. “I know you better than you think. You can either sit and wait or you can help me so that everything is finished fast. I still need to start making supper. What would you like to have tonight?”*
*I bit my lip in thought. “Whatever you make always tastes great,” I finally replied as I moved to where she was ready to help. “What do you need me to do? I’m good with practically anything in the kitchen.”*
*Mum laughed, her eyes brightened. “How about you start with cutting the vegetables and we can go from there.”*
*I removed the vegetables from the fridge, grabbed a knife from the drawer and started cutting.*
*“Be careful so you don’t cut yourself like last time.”*
*“That was because dad told a funny joke.”*
******
I rolled on the bed, every muscle in my body hurting so much that moving my hand was practically impossible.
“Morning love,” Aidan said as he walked out of the bathroom. “You look horrible.”
“Tell that to Carter, maybe he might give me the day off,” I replied as I pushed myself into a sitting position. “I can’t feel anything and everything hurts.”
Aidan walked over to the bed and sat on the edge with one leg folded under the other. “I can ask him to give you the day off if you don’t feel so great,” he said with a worried expression. “I can also stay back and we could rest together and do whatever it is that you want.”
That sounded like such a great plan but I couldn’t bail on Carter right now after the work we had done. Plus, Aidan needed to go to work and do whatever it was that he did.
“As much as that sounds like a great idea and anyone would be foolish not to accept it, I have to be one of those and decline,” I said as I bit my lip harder and felt the metallic taste of my blood. “Besides, don’t you have something important to do?”
Aidan sighed, he looked handsome in his black suit with his matching shirt and tie and everything hugged him in all the right places. I licked my lips because he looked good enough to eat but I knew deep down that I couldn’t do that, not now anyway. “Okay, but you say the word and I’ll be back faster than it takes Carter to argue with my decision,” he winked and I knew he noticed me swooning over him. He moved closer, his face just inches away from mine. “I’d like to continue what we started last night if you aren’t too tired.”
I licked my lips and his eyes followed every move. He was leaning closer but at the last minute I turned my head and he ended up kissing my cheek instead.
“You’ll pay for that.” He moved back and got up. “Get dressed because Carter will be here shortly and you don’t want a lecture from him about time management.”
I winced as I slowly got out of bed but before I took my shower, I walked over to Aidan and wrapped my arms around his neck as I stood on my toes. “Have a great day at work,” I said as I adjusted his tie properly then placed a tentative kiss on his lips. Aidan held the small of my back, pulling me back and deepening the kiss. I melted in his touch and allowed his tongue to massage my own but the knocking of the door made us pull apart. “That’s Carter.”
“And he’s going to be angry,” Aidan tsked as he picked up his phone and a folder that was on the table next to the bed. “All the best.” Then he left the room.
I heard the opening of the door followed by their voices in the living room and then the door closed.
“You are so in for it today,” Carter shouted loud enough for me to know he was talking to me. “We talked about time management but it seems you don’t learn little wolf.”
I quickly rushed into the shower and took the quickest shower in my life. I guess those plans with Aidan would have to wait for another day because today was going to be more painful than yesterday, I just knew it from how Carter’s voice sounded.
