Part C: Chapter 64

***Aidan’s POV***

“Are you sure you want to do this?” I asked Carter who was wrapping his fists in a cloth.

Carter smiled at me. “Come on, stop being such a Debbie Downer all the time, this is just for fun and nothing else,” he answered and threw me a lopsided smile. “Trust me.”

I sighed as I took a step back from him and turned to Sean who had just finished wrapping his fists. “Are you sure this is a good idea?” I asked him instead because knowing Carter, he really hadn’t thought about it at all and I didn’t want any form of trouble from either packs’ members. “If he’s forcing you into doing it, you can always let me know and I will make sure he gets punished for it.”

Both Carter and Sean burst out into laughter as they shook their heads at me. “Learn to relax Carmichael, this is just for fun and nothing else,” Sean replied and winked. “Besides, there is just no way that your Beta can take me in my full strength.”

Carter scoffed at that, “oh please. You couldn’t land a blow on me even if I let you,” he retorted back.

I took a step back from both of them. “Do whatever you want but I better not see blood or both of you will regret it,” I said as calmly as I could.

Sean and Carter both raised up their thumbs and then walked over to the sparring mats. I followed after them and then took one of the seats to watch them.

“You can be the referee,” Carter called, that lopsided smile still plastered on his face.

For his sake, I truly hoped he knew what he was doing. Sean was the Alpha in waiting and he was strong but not as strong as me. However, Carter was quick on his feet and that was his advantage in this. I just hoped that he wouldn’t have his ego bruised when he lost even if it is a just-for-fun thing.

Carter stretched his hands, legs and then neck while Sean was just looking at me without blinking or saying anything.

“All right, let the fight begin,” I called from my comfortable seat. “Remember, no blood on my mats.”

They both chuckled as Sean flew towards Carter and Carter dodged his fist just by the nick of time. He turned around and tried to place his own hit on Sean’s face but Sean ducked and swept his legs to try and knock Carter to the floor but Carter saw it coming and jumped to the other side, rolling on his back and back to his feet.

It seemed interesting to watch because from what I knew, they were two of the strongest people around these parts and no one could ever get a blow on them unless it was me of course.

They kept at it but there was no one who had landed a blow on the other and that was starting to annoy me. “Come on you two, what is this, child’s play? Put your backs into it,” I called out to them.

Carter flipped me off but that was exactly what Sean needed as he was able to sweep Carter’s feet and Carter went tumbling to the mat with a loud thud. I smiled at that.

“Well, that was fun,” I said as I got up and walked over to them. Sean was helping Carter to his feet and when Carter saw him, he jumped at me but I simply side-stepped him and he ended up tumbling back to the mat. I laughed as he rolled himself back on his feet. “Really Carter, for a split second you had me believing that you were going to win.”

“Fuck you man, you made me lose my focus,” Carter spat as he unwrapped the clothes on his fists. “I would have totally won it if it hadn’t been for that.”

Sean rolled his eyes as he unwrapped the clothes on his fists. “Yeah sure,” he replied sarcastically. “But I do have to give it to you, you are fast on your feet. Use that to your advantage next time.”

Carter narrowed his eyes on him. “Screw you both. You didn’t play fair.”

I laughed as I placed a hand on his shoulder. “There is no need to be grumpy. I asked you if you were sure about it and you said it was all in good faith so why are you being like this Carter?” I asked, trying to keep the smile from my voice but it was harder to do.

Carter shrugged off my hand and stepped aside. “Yeah, but then you just had to go and interrupt me right when I was about to make my move,” he said, scowling. “Did you do that on purpose? Did you two plan to do that to me?” He pointed an accusing finger at me and Sean.

“Nope, I would have won either way,” Sean replied with a shrug. “And besides, I didn’t lose my focus because I know what’s important during battle or any kind of fight.” He walked over and picked up two of the towels then he returned to where we had been standing. He handed one to Carter and used the other one to wipe the beads of sweat that had formed on his forehead.

“Fine, I admit I could have been a lot sharper than that,” Carter said with a deflated sigh then used the towel to wipe sweat from his head. “We should do that again. You made me rush and it’s been a while since I had such a rush."

Sean tilted his head to the side. “Don’t you two train together?” he asked.

“Nope,” Carter replied. “He thinks he’s too good for me and won’t even bother.”

“Why is that Carmichael? Afraid he might best you and you will feel less like the strong Alpha you are supposed to be?” Sean teased which made Carter laugh.

I narrowed my eyes on him. “That’s because I have other important things to do than babysit a grown man,” I replied coolly. “He should be able to handle himself without me there. That’s his job so he should find ways to make himself stronger and not just rely on me to help him reach the level he needs to be at.”

“You do have a point,” Sean agreed. “I’m still trying to figure out who will be my Beta but all the men just seem too weak for my liking.”

I placed a hand around his shoulder as we headed out of the training room. “Trust me, it isn’t the easiest thing to do,” I said. “But I believe you will find him or her when the time is right. So don’t stress about it.”

I liked how everything had gone back to normal among all of us. I no longer felt like strangling Sean whenever I saw him and he and Carter were also getting along like the old days when we all had been friends.

“And what if I don’t? Can I have Carter instead?” Sean asked.

We looked at Carter whose eyebrows had furrowed in confusion about what we were talking about. “I guess, he isn’t much help here anyway,” I replied just to get under his skin and it worked because Carter huffed and then walked ahead of us.

“I hate you both,” he said.

“Come on, I was just joking,” I said through a laugh. “You know you are the most valued person here.”

“Fuck off Carmichael. Save it for another loser.”
