Part C: Chapter 46
***Aidan’s POV***
“Wake up. Aidan, please.”
I heard a faint voice calling out to me and then a light appeared in front of me. I followed the light and I found myself adjusting my eyes to the light that the pack doctor was shining on my face.
“Thank the Goddess you are okay,” she said with a sigh of relief. “We thought we had lost you for a moment there.”
I slowly looked around the room and I was still in Carter’s house, in the same room I had been in with Jemila. Jemila, no. “Where is she?” I asked as I pushed myself up into a sitting position. “She was here and now she isn’t. What happened.” I looked at Carter, Ivan and then the doctor, the only people who were in the room.
Carter stepped forward with a solemn look on his face. “We don’t know what happened and we were hoping you would give us enough information to work with.”
“What do you mean you don’t know what happened? Isn’t it your job as my Beta to make sure that the future Luna is safe and protected at all times. What the hell is the point of having a Beta and a Gamma if they can’t do their job?” I could feel my blood boiling because I couldn’t feel our connection, much less feel her like I did when she had been kidnapped by Lila. I slowly stood up and the doctor wrapped an arm around me keeping me from falling face flat. My head was throbbing so I placed a hand at the back and felt something.
“Someone tell me what happened here before I lose my temper and kill all of you.”
Carter sighed, “I told you, we don’t know anything but it seems like someone entered unnoticed and for some reason knew you would both be here.” He was looking at me with sad eyes and I hated it because deep down I already knew what he was going to say. “Ivan and I heard noise inside and rushed in only to find you knocked out and the place trashed but Jemila was nowhere in sight.”
“It seems like someone got in unnoticed, what is that supposed to mean?” I barked. “I thought I had instructed you the first time it happened to improve the security so that it never happens again. But even that you failed to do. How pathetic.”
“Look, I know you are upset but there is no need to take out your anger on me when you failed to protect her. She got taken on your watch so don’t go blaming me and Ivan for something that we couldn’t control.” Carter had his eyes narrowed as he glared at me.
I pulled away from the pack doctor and sat at the edge of the bed, my head in my hands. This was all my fault. She had been taken on my watch and Carter was right, I had no right to put the blame on him when I was mine and mine alone to shoulder. What kind of Alpha was I? Letting such a thing happen to my Luna and then proceeding to throw the blame to the next person. I was truly pathetic.
“Trisha, leave us. I want to talk with my Beta and Gamma.” I didn’t look up as I said that but I heard her sigh followed by the retreating footsteps. Once I was sure she was gone and wouldn’t hear what we were talking about, I lifted my head up and acknowledged Carter and Ivan who both looked pissed off with me, which was in their right too. “I’m sorry for putting the blame on you, especially in front of Trisha. I didn’t mean for that to happen.” I swallowed the clog that had formed in my throat. “I just don’t know what to do anymore.”
“I know.” Carter sighed. “We are all worried about her.”
“I cannot feel her like last time. It’s as if our connection has been severed and that makes my wolf ache so much.”
Carter walked over to me and placed a hand on my shoulder. “Look, it’s happened, what we can do now is try and find her.”
“From the looks of it, one of our own helped them get in and out unnoticed,” Ivan said. “I’ll be questioning everyone to try and find out who the traitor is and why they did what they did because that is unacceptable and it makes me sick to know that one of our own would do something like this without considering what harm their actions would cause.”
I sighed as I ran my fingers through my hair. Why was all this happening to me? To us? Didn’t the Goddess want us to be happy? Or was I never meant to find my mate? There were so many questions running through my head that I couldn’t get my thoughts straight anymore.
“Don’t tell anyone about this. This remains between the three of us and ensures that you have a talk with Trisha but I’m sure she already knows not to mention this to anyone.”
“Noted, then how am I to conduct my investigations?” Ivan asked, looking confused.
“Make it seem as though you want to find out more about what happened last time,” Carter said before I could respond, saying exactly what I was about to. “Tell them that we know one of them was behind the kidnapping and whoever it is will be dealt with as per the rules of our pack.”
Ivan nodded and then excused himself, leaving Carter and I alone.
“Something tells me we have a lot of enemies within our own pack who don’t mind betraying us for their own gain,” Carter said, joining me on the edge of the bed.
Jemila’s duffle bag was still on the bed along with her clothes, just where everything had been and it caused a pang of pain to shoot through me because I failed to protect her. It was my fault and I intended on making it right no matter who I had to kill in the process. They had taken the most precious thing to me and for that, I would ensure that they suffered before they died, that was a promise I was making to myself and to Jemila, wherever she was.
“I will make those arseholes pay for messing with me.” I gritted my teeth in anger. “No one messes with my pack, my people and much more, no one lays a hand on my Luna and lives to tell about it.”
