Part A: Chapter 6
I was still trying to comprehend what had just happened when Carter and the guy with auburn highlights sent their chairs flying and rushed over to where Aidan had Shelly pinned to the wall. I watched in stunned shock as they both tried to pry Aidan’s hand away from Shelly’s neck but weren’t getting anywhere.
“Aidan, she’s still your sister and you can’t kill her,” Carter’s voice came out calm but there was a hint of panic hidden in his words. “Aidan listen to me, let her go man.”
But Aidan wasn’t listening. I even doubted he was still himself and hadn’t let his wolf take control of him.
“Alpha, please,” the guy with the auburn highlights pleaded and sounded panicked unlike Carter. “You have to let her go, she didn’t mean to disrespect you like that. She will apologise for her mistake but there is no way to punish her.”
I watched in horror as Aidan’s hand only tightened harder around Shelly’s neck. If this was what an angry Alpha looked like, then I never planned on pissing Aidan off to that extent, especially if I loved my life.
My eyes darted to Gerald to see if he was going to help but he didn’t move a muscle. Why was he just sitting there eating as if one of his children wasn’t about to kill the other? Wasn’t he as strong as Aidan? Or did he simply not care enough?
“Help her,” I yelled at him.
Gerald stopped eating long enough to glare at me then he went back to eating. Was he really not going to do anything?
“Why are you just sitting there? He’s gonna kill her,” I yelled again and this time I got Gerald’s attention. “Do something.”
Gerald got up and my heart stopped racing as much thinking that he was going to put a stop to it, instead, he walked over to where I was sat and wrapped his hand around my neck. It was just like when he had squeezed my neck not too long ago. I couldn’t breathe. What was with the men in this family all resorting to violence instead of just talking it out?
I clawed at his hand, willing him to let me go. I tried screaming but my words were logged in my throat. Was this how I died?
“Don’t you know when to shut your mouth?” Gerald seethed as he tightened his grip on my neck. “Seems my son didn’t teach you to obey your elders, so let me.”
I saw the auburn haired guy’s eyes bulged as he saw what was happening to me. He said something and the next thing I knew, Aidan threw Shelly across the room and turned to where I was. His chest was heaving up and down, eyes darker than they had been just a few seconds ago.
He moved so fast and had his father by the neck which made him let go of me. Carter rushed over to where I had crumpled on the floor while the other guy rushed over to where Shelly’s body lay
“Don’t ever lay a finger on her,” he said through bared teeth. “She is mine and no one touches her, do you hear me?”
Gerald cackled maniacally. “Is that a way to treat the former Alpha and your father?”
“No one touches her, or next time I will forget you are my father and break every single bone in your body.” Aidan let go of his father’s neck and rushed over to where Carter had helped me back onto a chair and was handing me a glass of water. He pushed Carter aside, kneeling before me and his eyes turned back to the greens that I was familiar with. “Are you hurt?”
I took a sip from the water before placing the glass down. “I’m okay,” I replied, still shaken up with everything that had happened. I placed a hand on Aidan’s cheek and he seemed to ease up a little. “Really, I’m okay but I don’t think your sister is.”
Aidan sighed, “she will be okay. I didn’t kill her and she’s stronger than she looks.” He took my hands in his and stood up, helping me up as well then he turned to everyone. “If anyone so much as lays a hand on her or says anything bad about her, I will kill them on the spot without any trial being held. Do you understand?”
Carter nodded his head and the auburn haired guy nodded his head too as Shelly coughed. I exhaled a breath I didn't know I had been holding finally knowing that she was okay and that Aidan hadn’t killed her.
“Yes Alpha,” Shelly said through a fit of coughs. “I apologise for not knowing my position.”
Aidan scoffed but didn’t say anything, only turned to look at his father who had picked himself up and composed himself. He looked just as he had before. Aidan’s eyes narrowed as he held onto my hands tighter before leading me out of the room.
He walked back to his quarters and immediately we were inside, his lips found mine, claiming me as his. His hands moved from holding my hands and roamed in my hair. I kissed him back just as feverish as he was kissing me. His hands moved from hair and wrapped my legs around his waist before he picked me up effortlessly.
Aidan’s lips didn’t leave mine as he walked us to his bedroom. He closed the door with his foot and walked us the remaining distance to his bed where he gently placed me down and finally broke the kiss. “You are beautiful,” he breathed close to my neck as he trailed down my neck as he expertly took my top off with one hand. He continued to trail kisses all over my bare skin, making a shiver run through me.
“Aidan,” I gasped. “Shouldn’t we talk about what just happened?”
Aidan groaned but didn’t stop trailing kisses all over me. “Can’t it wait?”
I placed my hands in his hair and made him look at me. “No, it really can’t. I don’t know what happened but whatever it is I think we should talk about it.”
Sighing, Aidan sat up and pulled me on his lap, holding me closer to him and letting his cologne engulf my senses. “Fine, let’s talk about it if that’s what you want.”
I wrapped my arms around his neck and looked at his eyes which kept flashing light green and then gray. “What happened back there? Why did you almost kill your own sister?”
Aidan tensed underneath my touch. “I wasn’t going to kill her,” he said after what felt like an eternity. “I just wanted to make it clear that no one says anything bad about you and gets away with it. And Shelly is my adoptive sister.”
My finger mindlessly played with his hair. “But you shouldn’t have done that, you could have simply just talked.”
Aidan laughed but it didn’t carry any humour. “Shelly doesn’t listen, the only way a point can be understood by her is through violence. That was the only thing we were taught, all of us.”
“Why would your father raise you like that,” I buried my face in his neck. “I may not have parents of my own but I don’t think that’s how anyone should raise children.”
A thought occurred to me and I pulled away from Aidan so that I was looking at him. “I remember you told me that one can only become the Alpha if they either challenge the current Alpha and kill him in the process or if he dies and his heir succeeds him, then how come your father is still alive, not that I would wish death on him or anyone.”
Aidan’s fingers were rubbing small circles mindlessly on my bare torso. “That’s because he had to step down,” he replied. “He was a tyrant and made a lot of enemies in his careless pursuit for power that he ended up getting himself badly injured to the point that he almost died and when he finally got better, he wasn’t the same. His wolf refuses to come out. We’ve tried all the possible medicines but there was just so much wolfsbane in his system.”
My heart ached for his father but by the way Aidan spoke, it sounded like he was glad it happened. Just how bad can one man be that his own son was glad he had almost died?
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be, it was for the best because if it hadn’t happened then I was going to challenge him and sure I killed him. I didn’t like how he treated everyone. At least now he can still live to pay for his sins.”
