Route 1: Seems To Be A Distant Past (9)

Scarlett Mila

“Illuminate” – I whispered and as if on cue all of the lights turned on synchronously and when the darkness finally faded, we finally saw the hybrids that we are able to save from the being enslaved by greedy annoying human beings.

“Hello there” – I greeted as I remove the mask that I am wearing and the hybrids looked at me for a second and all of them synchronously stepped back like they are scared. I already expected this to happen but really do I look like a bad guy here? Oh, wait I am supposed to be a bad guy so what’s the deal?

“You don’t have to be scared because technically I am part of the people who saved you from being sold off” – I said as I ran my fingers through my hair. I looked at Cain and I nod my head which is a sign that he should take off his mask as well. And when he did, the faces of the hybrids instantly lit up. Just what I thought, I know that they can feel that Cain is inherently good, and maybe they also can feel that he is going to be the savior of their race of some sort.

Well, of course, he is the hero of this game and their reaction is just natural. But still, I can’t believe that his presence has this much of an effect. To human beings or rather to the people of the empire, it is obvious that he is not adored this much, and that is because of his jet-black hair.

But it is not also impossible that they haven’t felt that heroic presence Cain possess. I strongly believe that the are just denying it because they cannot accept the fact that a person with jet-black hair can have such presence, and not to mention the society deems people with jet-black hair to practice the forbidden arts of dark magic. Well, in my case I was able to change their perception with the help of that mage that checked what magical affinity do I have, and I with also the help of those pixies that surrounded me.

Those pixies really did quite a favor although I thought at first that it is going to bring me trouble.

Well, the only problem with Cain why the people continued to see him that way is that he is not yet showing his true colors. And I totally understand why he is doing such thing, because if do, the emperor will surely be wary of him at the very start and his movements will be limited. Most probably it will be hard for him to start a powerful coup d’état to overthrow the emperor.

“Hero” – The hybrids said synchronously which made me roll my eyes subconsciously, damn they are so f-cking biased. I looked at Cain’s expression in my peripheral vision and he is just staring at them void of any specific emotion, in other words he has this usual stoic expression plastered on his face. Well, I guess he doesn’t really give a damn. Is this really his supposed to be personality? I can’t believe that a born hero would not care

“Hero, thank you for s—

“I am not the only one who saved you. It was all thanks to her plan and that guy’s assistance why we are able to get you out of the auction event” – he said cutting of the male hybrid that was about to speak. What Cain said instantly made me let out a snicker. Damn what he said is just f-cking savage.

I bet he also noticed how the hybrids does not give a damn of our presence and that they only care about him, being the ‘hero’ and saving them from their demise.

“You can now remove your mask” – I said to Kenzo who is just right beside me. He looked at me if I am actually serious and I just raise my eyebrow at him. I heard him heave a sigh and then slowly he removed his mask and I slowly turn my head to see the reaction of the hybrids.

“K-Kenzo?” – One of them said and I almost let out a loud chuckle when the hybrids we saved had this shocked expression plastered on their faces, well it is not only that, to be specific they look horrified and I can feel their fear based from the aura that they are radiating.

Then the hybrids shifted their gaze at our direction and they have this disappointed look on their faces and the next thing that happened is something that I actually did not expect but I can’t help but to grin.

“Why?! Why haven’t you killed that man yet!”

“He turned into a Dark Elf already! He is dangerous!”

“How can you let such monster live?!”

“Kill him!!!”

Those are the words that come out of their mouths, they continued spitting such remarks and I could see in my peripheral vision how Kenzo clenched his hands into fists and I heard Cain clicked his tongue, as if he is not happy of what he is seeing and hearing right now from the hybrids.

One of the hybrids suddenly stood up and walked from the crowd and before I knew it, he is already in front of me and he is holding both of my shoulders as if he is trying to squeeze me.

“Kill him!!! Kill him already!!” – He said and he even tightened his grip on my arms. I admit he is quite strong, so this is how strong a hybrid is. That’s why a lot of human beings really want to have one because they are going to be excellent guards. “You said that you saved us right?! Why are you bringing a dangerous person here?!” – He added and I could feel his fingers entering my skin, a little bit more and surely blood will come out of my skin. I believe this hybrid here is a werewolf, how? Because of the fact that I can feel his nails getting sharper, and I can also visibly see his fangs.

I could see in my peripheral vision that Cain was about to draw his sword but I signaled him to stop. He is not the right person to do that.

I can already feel that this hybrid right in front of me has already wounded me and that blood is already coming out from that wound.

“Mila! What’s going on?! We can smell your blood?!” – Alarick exclaimed on my mind.

“We’re going back now!” – Aesir also exclaimed.

Damn, I forgot that the two can instantly smell my blood and that they easily get worried whenever they do and it is because of what happened almost seven years ago. The wounds I got and how much blood I lost that time that I almost died really traumatized them.

“I am fine. Calm down, focus on your task. I can handle this” – I replied and even if it is against their will, they have just agreed to what I just said. I am not really in danger anyways and I can perfectly manage this shit.

I am about to open my mouth to speak when suddenly, the hybrid who is holding me was thrown away and his back landed on the brick wall and because of my enhanced senses, I was able to see how he coughed up blood because of the impact.

“You bastard, you have no right to hurt my benefactor and the person who actually saved you” – Kenzo said and when I turn my head to look at him, I can’t help but to be amazed that he was able to use wind magic. A magic that is common to elves, not to mention that the color of the magic circle on his hand is green, a sign that he is of noble bloodline and not black.

Which only means that he indeed still retained his powers before he became a dark elf. F-ck he is really a great catch now I am sure that I am not going to regret buying him for five f-cking gold bars and I can see that there is a possibility that he can turn back to what he was before.

And with that happens, he will not longer be considered as a half-blood, more likely he is still a half-blood, but the abilities he has will similar to that of a full-blood elf.

My gaze went to the hybrids and I could see the fear on their faces and I can also feel it. I want to laugh at how they look but of course, I controlled myself not to. I need to keep my cool because the fun part is about to start.

The half human and half wolf hybrid stood up and I heard him let out a growl.

“If you will not kill him, then I will” – He said and as if on cue he instantly turned into a werewolf and I can’t help but to grin. Damn, so this is how a werewolf actually looks like. Seriously, if those bastard nobility was able to get their hands on this man, they surely will be hard to deal with, other nobles will surely be on his or her good side.

Hybrids are precious yet it is undeniable that they too are dangerous, especially to human beings.

I saw in my peripheral vision that Cain once again was about to draw his sword and I used my hand to block his body and in order to actually stop him from interfering.

“Let Kenzo handle this, it will prove that he is trustworthy and that he is not like the other hybrids that turned into monsters” – I said in a voice just enough for him to hear. I heard him clicked his tongue, I bet he does not really want to follow what I just said but he still did. I think it is because he also wants to know whether or not we should let Kenzo live.

The werewolf instantly charged at Kenzo in a fast pace, he then raised his arms and was about to slash Kenzo with his sharp nails, however Kenzo was faster than him.

It may not be visible to Cain and the other Hybrids, but to me I can clearly see how Kenzo instantly disappeared in front of the werewolf and right now he is behind him. A little bit of training and he could match our speed.

“I will return to you the pain you caused her” – I heard him say in as if on cue, four magic circles appeared around him, two of which is of color green while the other two is of color black. Damn is he aware that he is using both his old and new magic spells? I bet he is not aware of that fact.

“Dark Wind” – I heard him whispered and as if on cue winds formed around the body of the werewolf; two winds actually, there is a green wind and a black one. I can’t help but to grin because he was able to use a class A magic power, a little more training and I am sure of it, that magic spell he just used is going to be something that monsters, hybrids and human beings will fear.

I am excited to see with my own eyes what is the effect of that spell to the werewolf, however, I also know that it could cost that his opponents’ life. The Dark Wind, although I am not that familiar with it and that it is still quite unpolished, it can already kill someone.

“Nullification, extended” – I whispered and as if on cue the spell Kenzo just casted disappeared, and not only that, but the werewolf also turned back to his human form. No one is able to use their abilities from now on since I already casted a nullification magic in order to prevent them from doing so.

Well, I can’t just let them use their abilities whenever they want to and I cannot let anymore damage to this house because I just rented it, the landlady will surely create quite a fuss when she knew that we created such a mess in a home where she gets her income.

“What did you do, Lady Mila?” – Cain asked and which made me look at him. I let out a sly grin and then I told him what exactly did I do.

“I just nullified their magic—and oh, you are no exception. So, right now I am the only one who could use magic” – And when I said that I can see how shocked the hybrids looked as if they are not expecting to know that I can use nullification magic, well not only them but Cain as well is looking at me unbelievingly.

“If you don’t believe me then try casting a magic” – I just said and Cain really did what I said and he casted a tried casting a high-class fire spell but it didn’t work. “I told you magic cannot work, so now let me start with the talking” – I said and I shifted my gaze to the hybrids who once again are letting out a scared aura, and their fear is a lot stronger now than it was a while ago, well, I know it is because they are no longer able to use their powers to protect themselves to whatever I am about to do.

Well, it is good to let them feel what it is like to be powerless in a situation where they are treated as a prey. Technically I am making them feel what Kenzo felt when he was all alone and that he was powerless when darkness started to change him, the fear he felt when he thought about the fact that his tribe will not accept him and will fear him.

Am I thoughtful? Do I care? Maybe I am but actually I am doing this for my own personal f-cked up gain because technically I am just doing this to gain Kenzo and the hybrid’s trust. And also, I want to know who the heck is their leader so that I could teach that bastard a lesson that he will never forget.

A lesson that will surely make him think that he should have not become the successor in becoming the leader of the hybrid’s tribe or that he could have did something more to be able to protect his tribesmen.

Why am I going to do that? It is all just for fun actually, and other than that, I just want to impose fear to the hybrids that it is not good to make me their enemy, and to simply make sure that they are going to be obedient to me when the time comes.
