POV – Kai-Lea
The guys spent so much money on me that it worried me. I already had issues with whether or not they were going to have any money left when we were done. Just after lunch I was walking around a computer store, just looking at all the laptops, desktops, and other things, wondering what it would be like to have one. After buying a few more things we finally headed home.
Putting everything away was more work than shopping for it was. I had to wait for the clothes, sheets, and towels to be washed and dried, but I was able to put away all the shoes, bathroom things. Even the school items I had picked out. I couldn’t wait to get to go to school. A few days after shopping Mom sat me down with a school proctor and had me tested. Afterward tallying up the marks, it showed that I am smarter than Black Moon ever wanted to let me know I am. I was told that if I wanted to, I could jump ahead and graduate early. I told them, that would be a no for me, I wanted to stick to close to what I knew so far. Which means I’m a junior, with the twins, Wade, Emma, Tobias, and Ronnie.
Two weeks later…
I woke up early as it was the first day at my new school. and over the last two weeks, I’d been shown that I am so much smarter than I ever thought I actually am. In fact, they bought me my own desktop and laptop with everything that goes with it. They’d even given me my own workspace room for my little gadgets that I told them I'd love to create, this made ‘Dad’, as being told to call him, very happy. I wasn’t always sure if I was smart enough, but over the last two weeks, I've been reminded time and again that I am more than capable. This realization has sparked one of my boldest, most creative ideas yet! Back at Black Moon I’d never even been given a chance to do anything. So, I wasn’t going to waste this chance I’d been given.
After packing my lunch and breakfast I headed out and made it all the way to school. Not that walking alone didn’t come with being scared beyond unimaginable belief, but I did it so that I didn’t have to ride to school in a car on my first day of school. Since it was early no one, well almost no one was around. More than few patrol warriors made themselves known.
My phone rang, caller ID telling me that I might be in some trouble, so I answered, “Hey, where are you?” Kallen and Stuart asked over the phone, sounding anxious or worried.
“I’m at school. It’s the first day for me here and I didn’t want to be sick. I’m excited and I wanted to stay this way. Sorry if I scared you. I will take whatever punishment think appropriate.” Having a feeling that they weren’t angry with me just worried. But that didn’t stop me from feeling terrified of what was to come.
“It’s fine. We’re on our way. Stay on the phone with us so that we can know if something were to happen. AND YOU’RE NOT TROUBLE.”
“I can do that.” I felt bad now because I’d ruin their first day back. A few minutes later I saw them pulling up in the car. Kallen and Stuart were out of the car first, barely giving it time to come to a stop. “Hey no one is mad at you. Why don’t we make you this deal? Until you are fully comfortable with riding in a car, we will walk with you to and from school every other day unless it’s raining.” As I’d made them worry about me which wasn’t necessary. I should have just sucked it up. They claim that the twins are my fated mates and that I was safe, but I was still bought from Black Moon Pack. And I am willing to put up with whatever they want because so far unlike Black Moon, Green Mountain Pack hasn’t physically abused me. I hoped they never did. But I also know that there’s nothing I can do to change that aspect about my life.
“Really?” I said excitedly about not being put in a car. I know most people my age are cool with being in cars, heck most favor it over walking ten times a day or taking the bus, at least that last part I’ve heard from Gustava and Rachellea. However, I get too sick and am not that comfortable in them and didn’t want to create a mess.
“Yes, everyone in high school will walk to and from school three days a week until you are ready to ride more than just two days or rainy ones.” Stuart said grabbing me up a hugging me.
“Deal.” I couldn’t stop smiling. They were actually making arrangements for me to stay and be as comfortable as possible. This gave me more hope than not being beaten every moment over random stuff.
“But promise us that you won’t go off on your own ever again. You are our mate and a Lotus wolf. The last thing we need is for someone to find these things out and try to take you. You are our Mate; it is our job to protect you. ‘And we promise to protect you at all costs, Little Mate, Kai-Lea’.” Kallen said most of it. They said in unison, the last part.
“I promise. Thank you.” I said still smiling from ear to ear. They were making arrangements for me. ‘They are our mates.’ My wolf said. ‘I’m beginning to understand, I think.’
“Welcome.”
And for the rest of the day, I didn’t feel so bad. In fact, I had fun being in class with Kallen some, then with Stuart, and finally in some I had both. Only two classes I was in didn’t have either of them. Which sucked a lot more than I expected it to. But they were over fast, so there wasn’t much that I had to complain about. I was still around some pack members. One of which was Wade and he scared off any looks from the guys that weren’t in the pack as well as growled at the girls that tried to be mean. It was nice. Wade had the makings of being my best friend outside of the twins, Gustava, and Rachellea. Wade says I’m like a little sister to him and that’s saying something he has nothing but little brothers.
Wade made things easier in those classes. I think that I was going to be best friends with him. He was the goofy-serious type. Goofy when there wasn’t a time to be serious. And serious when absolutely necessary, and everyone knew better than to get in his way when he was serious. But his goofy side just made things so easy to adjust to. He had this way to make people feel at ease without feeling overwhelmed or scared. In fact, he made things fun.
POV - Taylor's niece
‘Really?’ I think that this is some new and important information my Uncle would like to know. I thought to myself. I kept an eye on her and who all she interacted with all day long. Including pretending to be nice to her. I don’t think she remembered me which could work in my Uncle’s favor. “Look, I know you’ve discovered something rather interesting about that ‘Freak’, but I don’t give a shit. She’s a freak, and I will do anything I can to make sure she isn’t the next Luna Queen, she’s afraid of her damn shadow, and it doesn’t help that she looks like a cut up half dead doll. So, what do you need to know?” Someone I never expected to even speak to me asked.
“Pretending to be nice to her all the time must suck.” I said, as I thought about it, I figured I could use an inside source for my Uncle and cousin. “I’m not sure what I need at the moment. But we can create a system to talk to each other if you think it’ll help.”
“Oh… it’ll help. Just let me know.”
“Will do.” As she walked away, I watched her wait for them to come and talk to her, she acted as if nothing just happened. She was cold and calculating. It made me wonder what her end game was. But I decided to figure out that later. Right now, I had information for my Uncle. So, after school I drove myself to my Uncle’s pack lands. With my mom being mated to a Beta at a different pack, I’m the second child of a Beta. So, I can come and go through either pack lands, thanks to his and her relationship.
“Hello Uncle. I have some news for you. News that you are going to hate and love.” He said, kissing my cheek.
