POV - Kai-Lea
‘Little mate, we have some bad news. We aren’t able to meet up with you ladies, like we’d hoped in a few days. Unfortunately, Milton is not in custody.’
‘I understand.’ I told them back.
‘Milton is on the run. While no longer an Alpha, he is of Alpha blood and had his escape planned weeks ago. Be safe Little Mate we will let you know when it is safe to come home.’ Kallen told me. I cut the link and trusted them, even though I was saddened by the information they just gave me. Those two are serious when they need to be, kind and merciful when necessary, and always loving towards me. And right now, I really need them. It was strange knowing that Mom knew that we weren’t going home any time soon. Which didn’t help cause I knew she was able to understand what I was feeling. She did give me a sad smile, trying to reassure that they had everything handled.
We sat down for dinner. I noticed that it was just us. Mom, Gussie, Chellea, Marlisa, her sisters, and Clayra. Which I thought was odd. Until Mom spoke up saying, “So, when does Kahlid get back?”
“He gets back Monday afternoon. He’s picking up his parents from his brothers pack. And he can’t wait to finally meet you all. Finding my second chance mate in Kahlid. Was hard at first. The boys definitely butted heads with him more than few times. But he is nothing like Millus. And I couldn’t be happier.”
“I’m so happy for Sis. Does he treat your mother good?”
“Yeah, Kahlid is awesome. Even helps us with our homework. Kinda of nerd like Uncle Tomas.” Marlisa said.
“Good. Let me know if that ever changes.”
“Can do.”
I figured this conversation wasn’t meant for me, so I blocked them out as they talked. I thought about the twins and how much I missed them. Thought about what they’d say about the fish out in the pond. What they’d say about the girl fish. I lost my appetite thinking about them and why I know they can’t come to me, nor can I go home. We were still a few weeks off from graduating so we’d have to head home eventually but knowing that wasn’t in a few weeks’ time now hurting me.
POV - Krysta
“Millus, is still trying to win over our children. But as they have told him and pretty much everyone who will listen that they are done with his ass. I try to tell them to be civil with him, but it falls on deaf ears.”
“Good, glad to hear it. But where is he?”
“I don’t know. I prefer it that way. His brother actually has it set that if he hurts my children or myself again, he’ll have to be looking over his shoulder for life. As he’d put a bounty on Millus’s head for what he’s done.”
“He better be in hiding. Or he’ll have to deal with me.”
“Mom.” Gustava said getting my attention as Kai-Lea was pushing her food around on her plate. She was miserable. From the boys having told her that they weren’t meeting up and why. She looked pitiful and it worried me this was the longest she’d ever been away from the guys since we got her.
“We can talk about this more later.”
“She’s never been away from her mates before has she?”
“Not more than an hour or two at school.”
“Damn. Maybe I can help her here. Kahlid, being gone sucks.”
“Kai-Lea, why don’t you go for a run, in wolf form? Might cheer you up.” I told her getting over to her.
“No. With everything going on that is too dangerous. It could lead him here and getting people hurt.”
“Sweetheart, you’re safe.”
“I’m fine. I can’t do that to people here. And like you and Dad are always telling me there are going to be decisions that I will make that I won’t always like. I’m just being the future Luna Queen that you and he think I can be. No one here needs to be hurt because of that… of Milton Taylor. Can I… be excused?”
“Of course.”
She took her plate to the kitchen and put it in a container then washed her plate and headed to her room. She wasn’t prepared to be without her mates. ‘Honey, we need to get the boys here or her home NOW. Kai-Lea isn’t doing so good.’
‘I know, they look like hell.’
‘She isn’t wanting shift. Stating that it is one of those decisions she isn’t going to like. Being the Luna Queen, we hope she is. She didn’t eat anything after they told her. I’m very worried that this is going to get worse on her end.’
‘I wonder if this has to do with her being a Lotus wolf. They have been known to have issues like this from separation of their mates.’
‘I’ll keep an eye out. But, I’m saying fix this and NOW.’
‘On it.’
With that I cut the link and went and talked more with my sister. We talked about what Kai-Lea and the twins were doing for college and to say that she wasn’t surprised to learn that Kai-Lea would be triply enrolled would be an understatement. In fact, after everything that I had told her, she said, ‘If she wasn’t then I’d be more surprised.’ Talked about Coltor and Colton and how they were coming along especially since they were the ones who walked in on Millus cheating on their mother.
We talked about all her pups the triplets were about to graduate high school. Lyla and Lia were moving into the sixth grade. I was so happy for her and them. It seemed like they were finally adjusting to everything. We talked some more about everything under that had been going on with us.
Then we finally called it a night and headed off to bed.
I wasn’t in bed an hour when Gussie linked me telling me she found Kai-Lea crying.
“I know I shouldn’t be crying. But I – I… I my wolf is in pain.”
“Oh… sweetheart. You’re too young to feel like that.”
“It’s because she’s a Lotus Wolf. I also take it she a golden one at that.” Mom said.
“You’re getting here pretty late.”
“Sorry weather. Is this Kallen and Stuart’s mate?”
“Yes, Ma’am. I’m Kai-Lea. Nice to meet you. I’m sorry I look like a mess.”
“Oh… honey. No, you’re fine. You’re just experiencing separation pains from your only known mates. Mom here told me that you have four more out there somewhere.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
“It’s not Ma’am, it’s Grammy. Come on… let’s get you out to the pond. It will help ease you a bit.” She said helping Kai-Lea stand. My mother has never been one for being what you would expect of her. But she is always gentle.
“Is this better?”
“A little, thank you.” Once she finally got Kai-Lea to eat a little something, Kai-Lea dozed right off to sleep right next to the pond. She looked so peaceful I had four of our warriors just watch over her. I sent Gussie inside for a pillow and blanket for her. So that she remained comfortable.
“She probably has a smaller reaction at school. Being a Golden Lotus wolf, with whatever else she, I’m not surprised. Our emotions, senses… our bodies in general are already heightened compared to a humans. She got that tripled just by being a Golden Lotus wolf. I can’t imagine how much she is by whatever else she is.” My mother said.
“We know she been through a lot and makes her seem extra sensitive and boosted but… we didn’t think them being separated would be this bad.”
“As she gets older this will be easier to handle. But only once she has found all her mates. She has a best a one-third of the full connection she supposed to have to each of them. When are my grandsons getting here to attend to their mate?”
“Not for a while. Milton got lose again. This time with a cloud of dark smoke. According to Tomas it tasted like sulfur.”
“Meaning the smoke was directly made by a witch but was by a dark witch for someone else.”
“Great. He has a dark witch working for him.” Clayra said shaking her head.
Knowing that Kai-Lea was outside sleeping, had me on edge. So, I decided to start help my sister with her duties. ‘Tomas, Kai-Lea woke up crying. My mother helped her by having be next to the pond. And she’s finally asleep, but you three need to hurry the hell up. She cannot take any more.’
‘Yes, Sweet Mate, I’m on it.’
‘Fast.’
