Chapter 52

Lilly
As promised Merigold got me a doctor's appointment with the doctor that delivered Kassidy and Kadance. Now I sit on the exam table listening to the doctor going over birth control options. Thank heavens that Merigold came with me to help me make a decision. When I had decided to go on something to prevent pregnancy I could not have imagined there were so many options. After hearing every form of birth control ever made I turned to Merigold “ What do you think would be better?” Merigold grabs my hand “ Lilly it is your choice but if you want my advice. With how busy you are. And I hate to mention the sight thing but you should factor that in. I think something that you have to do every few months like the shot or the implant will be the best way to go.” I am inclined to agree. Think about those options. I don’t like the idea of an object stuck under my skin for a few months. I turned to the doctor “ I would like to go with the shot, please.”

“ I’ll go get it ready and we will do your first injection today.” the doctor says then leaves the room. “ This is a good choice Lilly. You won’t have to worry about forgetting it or taking a pill everyday.” I nod confident in my choice. The doctor comes back in “ Lilly I’m going to need your arm.” I give her my left one. She rubs my arm down then tells me “ Here we go.” before poking my arm. “ You are all set, Lilly.” she says. “ Thank you doctor. How long before it takes effect?” I ask. Merigold laughs. The doctor says “ Give it two days before you have unprotected sex. Just remember this doesn’t prevent disease.So you need to use other forms of protection with your partners if that is a concern.” “ Not on my end. There will be only one partner for me.” The doctor laughs at my statement “ That is good to hear.”

We leave the doctor's office to go to our next appointment. Merigold is treating me to a spa day. When we walk in we are greeted by the receptionist. “ Good afternoon ladies. If you will just sign in I will get the people who will be working on you.” After Merigold helps me sign in we are brought to a waiting area with soft comfortable chairs. I smell two people approaching. One smells of jasmine and the other has a strong scent of sandalwood. They introduce themselves. “ Mrs.Merigold my name is Vanessa. I will be doing your facial and seaweed wrap today.” says the one that smells like sandalwood. “ Mrs. Lilly, I’m Trinity. I will start you off with you waxing and we will do a mud wrap on you. After we are done with you we will send you to have your manicures and pedicures.”

I’m not going to go into details about the waxing. Just take my word if I didn’t need to have it done it would not be something I would do voluntarily. It was an unpleasant experience. And it irritated my skin. Luckily the mud wrap afterwards soothed my skin as well as the lotion Trinity massaged on me after I was cleaned up. Trinity did say the waxing would get better with time. I’m going to take her word for it since it is her job to know these things. And after the massage I’m very relaxed. And let me tell you I needed that. I didn’t realise how stressed I was until she started working my muscles. I thank her for the extra attention Trinity gave me so I will make sure I leave her an extra tip.

Merigold and I are sitting in special chairs in the manicure room now. Merigold is helping me pick out some nail polish while we soak our feet. Even that feels like heaven right now. “ Lilly I have narrowed it down to two polishes for you. I have an ice blue or we can go with carnation pink. Which one do you want?” Merigold asks. I think about the outfit I asked Anna to make for the stage and make my choice. “ I think I will go with the ice blue.” The manicurist, Maykala, is working on my nails. Trimming, filing, buffing. Whatever else they do while I lean back and relax. Merigold and I were talking for a few minutes before we settled into a comfortable silence.

I didn’t realise I was singing softly until I heard “ I know that voice. I have heard her sing before.” I stop not wanting to draw attention to myself. I didn’t mean to sing. I was going over the playlist for the concert in my head and I guess I got carried away. Again. “ Maykala taps my hand “ Please don’t stop. I was enjoying it.” I continued singing ‘ Humble And Kind’ by Tim McGraw. This time I will make sure to keep my voice low. I feel Merigold rest her hand on my shoulder and give it a squeeze. I know she is proud of my voice. Now that is. After I got out of the hospital she explained that yes she was hurt that I didn’t tell her. But the reason was she was upset that I felt like I couldn’t come to her. Come to find out a lot of the club felt that way.

I hear “ I knew I heard it.” come from my left side. “ Excuse me. I have to ask. Are you Songbird?” I’m not sure if I should answer. Noone outside the club and Harry’s has ever came up to me. Merigold saves me the trouble “ Yes she is.” I swear I can hear the pride in her voice. An excited squeal is heard from my side. “ Oh wow. I have seen all of your shows. You are amazing. Is it true you will be coming back for the Halloween concert? I have been to the recent shows hoping to see you there but you disappeared. I was disappointed I didn’t see you. Don’t get me wrong, the guys are hot as hell but they can’t put on a show without you.” Wow, I don’t know what to say. This woman is gushing over me. I have never been in this situation.

I decided to answer her questions. “ Yes, I will be at the concert. It is my comeback. You see the reason I was gone for a while was I was in a car accident and needed time to recover.” “ Oh my goodness. I’m sorry to hear that. But I’m happy you will be back. I have already got my ticket for the show. And I got all my friends going. I’m even dressing up. I can’t wait to see you in action again.” I can’t help but giggle at her excitement. I can practically feel it. “ What’s your name?” “ Oh sorry. I’m Penny.” she says. I hold out the hand that isn’t being worked on “ Nice to meet you. My real name is Lilly. Thank you for your kind words.The band and I will be in costume as well. I hope you enjoy the concert.”

“ I know I will. Whenever I see you perform I’m never disappointed. You are awesome. I can’t wait. This is going to be so great. I can’t believe I met you in person. You are so sweet. Not snooty.I can’t wait to tell everyone I met Songbird.” I hear her say as she's walking away. Suddenly Merigold is cracking up beside me. “ What is so funny?” I ask genuinely confused. “ Nothing. I wish you could have seen her excitement. She was practically bouncing. I can’t believe it, my little sister is a celebrity.” I shake my head “ I wouldn’t go that far. She just likes my music. It by no means makes me a celebrity. You are making too much out of it.” “ Sure whatever you say.” Merigold says her voice dripping with sarcasm.
