Chapter 66

Lilly

I woke up early the next morning. I went to the bathroom and did my business. As I was brushing my teeth I thought about my upcoming day. First we are headed to the hospital for my surgery. Am I hoping to have my vision completely restored? Yes. Will I be disappointed if it isn’t? No, I won’t. Any improvement I will be grateful for. Although it would be nice to see Tank’s handsome face again and the faces of my nephews and goddaughters. And Harley. But I’m not expecting it. Then there is the setup to get Constantine. That has me scared. I know my brothers will be there to keep me safe but just the idea of him getting close to me gives me the creeps.
A knock pulls me out of my head. “ I don’t think your teeth are going to get any cleaner, sweetheart.” I finish and rinse my mouth. “ Sorry, I was in my head again.” Tank wraps his arms around me and kisses the top of my head. “ Everything will be fine. You are in the hands of a top notch surgeon. And the plan is organised. Nothing will happen to you. Just trust me and know I will be by your side the whole time.” I nod my head “ I know Nick.” I turn around wrapping my arms around his waist laying my head on his chest. “ Thank you for everything. I love you.” Tank squeezes me “ I love you too.”

We get to the hospital and check in. Tank and Hatley are with me the whole time. I’m absent mindedly petting Harley’s head while we wait for them to call me back. Suddenly Harley lifts his head and I feel Tank stand. I’m thinking the doctors have come to get me and stand as well but then Tank asks “ Brother’s?” I hear several pairs of boots come towards us. Then I hear Viper speak up “ You didn’t think we would let you both go through this alone did you? We are going to be here every step of the way.” “ Thank you.” Tank says getting choked up. I get a round of hugs from all the brothers and Neil, Connor and the rest of the band. I hear someone clearing their throat “ Sorry to interrupt but it is time to take Lilly back.” It was Silvey.

“ Silvey?” I questioned while they were taking me and Tank to the back. The guys had to wait since there wasn’t room for everyone. I was getting in the bed after getting into my gown when she finally answered. “ You didn’t think I was going to let our star patient go through this without being here did you?” “ What do you mean?” I hear more footsteps “ You don’t know? You are the talk of the town.” I hear Dr. Ramerez say. “ I have no idea what you are talking about.” Then they explain to me how the interview the band and I did last night is all over the papers and over the radio stations.

“ Wow, that is so cool. I’m happy the band got some recognition.” I said all the while getting hooked up with an Iv and monitors. Tank sits beside me and holds my hand. “ It will be a few minutes before we take you back. Mr. Tank when we take Lilly back you will have to go sit in the waiting room.” “ Got it.” Tank says. I know he isn’t happy about it by the way he is squeezing my hand but he knows he has no choice. “ Since we have a few minutes. I’m going to read to you what is all over the news.” Silvey says. Since we have nothing better to do, why not.

“ Last night at Harry’s, a local watering hole we were able to interview a local band that is making big waves in our community. Before the interview I had a chance to watch the band perform. I have seen a few local bands over the years but these guys topped all of them. They had a good stage presence and put on a good show that was better than any amature show I have seen before. If it wasn’t in a local bar I would feel like I was at a concert. They performed a good mix of country and rock. The ladies sure loved them. But for this report what really stole the show was a young beautiful young lady they referred to as Songbird.”Silvey says.

I’m happy the guys got a good write up. I am so proud of them. Silvey continues “ As I set down to talk to the band I have to tell you I expected them to be stuck- up or to act like diva’s. Boy was I surprised at how down to earth they are. Yes they have a huge fan base and have tens of thousands of followers but the band is very humble about their success. I noticed one big thing while I was sitting talking to them. And it is that the guys in the band are extremely protective of Songbird. While she was sitting in the middle the guys surrounded her on all sides.I asked how they worked together and how they started. The guys all said if it wasn’t for Songbird they wouldn’t be as popular as they are now. Turns out that the country singer who goes by Lug Nut over heard her singing and brought her in. They said she sets up all the songs and dance routines. It is Songbird that makes them run smoothly. When I asked her about it she simply said it was a group effort and she couldn’t take all the credit.”

“ I asked a few personal questions that I knew my listeners wanted to know. I asked Songbird which one of the guys was her boyfriend and was shocked when she said none of them were. That she was involved with a guy outside the band. And that she views the guys as brothers. Whoever this guy is, he is one hell of a lucky guy. I asked Songbird if she ever thought about going to a record studio to get a contract and she said ‘ Why would I do that? I am happy where I am. I don’t need to be a big time singer. If the guys want to explore that I will join them and support them but I don’t need it. I have everything I could ever want here.’”

“ I noticed a dog that stayed by Songbird’s side. I asked about him. Songbird smiled and said he is my guide dog. I was shocked. It turns out that Songbird was in an accident that took her vision away. Seeing her on stage you would never have known she couldn’t see. Then they explained that they also wore a red light for her to be able to see them. They even had to modify the stage to meet Songbirds needs. To say this reporter was impressed is an understatement. The love of family could be seen in the way they treat each other. I recommend everyone to come out on Thursday’s to Harry’s to see this amazing group.”

By the time Silvey was done it was time to wheel me back to surgery. Tank and Harley walked me back the whole way. “ Tank, I will be there with her and I will come out with updates every so often. I will make sure she is taken care of.” Sivley says. “ Thank you Silvey.” I feel Tank kiss my forehead “ I’ll be waiting for you. I’ll see you soon. I love you Lilly.” I wipe a tear from my eyes. “ I love you too Nick. Try and keep my brothers calm will you.” “ You got it sweetheart.” With that they take me away. Once I am on the operating table a doctor says “ I’m going to put a mask on you. I want you to breathe deep and relax. You will be asleep soon.” I do as he said and before I know it I’m falling asleep.
