Chapter 70

Lilly
After getting back to the room and having Silvey look over me , Tank let me rest. He wasn’t happy that I was bruised but since I had no other injuries he let it go. He talked to Dr. Ramerez into waiting until morning to look at my eyes and just let me sleep. Tank stayed by my side the whole night. How we managed to squeeze into that tiny bed I’ll never know but we did it. The brothers came by through the night to check on me which was sweet.

Which leads me to laying in the bed Tank by my side and some brothers in the room waiting for the doctor. Silvey told us he is on his way to remove the bandage and check my eyes. I’m nervous as hell and excited at the same time. I’m hoping to be able to see again but I will not get my hopes up and I will take what I can get. I hear a knock on the door then it opens. “ Good morning everyone.” Dr. Ramerez said. We responded ‘ Morning to him. “ Well, it is time to check your eyes, Lilly. Are you ready?” I take a deep breath “ As I’ll ever be.” “ Mr. Tank if you will go stand with your friends. And Silvey if you will dim the lights we will get started.” I hear shuffling around then I hear Dr. Ramerez “ Lilly, I’m going to remove the bandage first. Then I’m going to look into your eyes. After I am going to run you through a series of tests. If at any time you are in pain or discomfort I want you to tell me.” “ Got it.” I say.

I feel the bandage being taken off then the doctor says “ Lilly, I want you to open your eyes.” I’m scared but I do what he says. The first thing I notice is the black spots are gone and the room is dim but not dark. “ Any pain?” the doctor asks. “ None. My eyes feel dry though.” I say. “ That is normal and I will get you some drops in a minute and they will help.I’m going to shine a light in your eyes and have a look.” I see him move his hand then a light is shining in my eyes. It is uncomfortable but doesn’t hurt like before. “ Good, Lilly. Now I want you to try to follow the light.” he says. I tried my best and I think I did it because I could see the light moving.

“ Lilly, that was great. I’m going to put the drops in now. When I am done I want you to close your eyes and don’t open them until I say.” I see his hand move over my eyes then I feel something cold and wet hit my eyes. It was shocking at first but then my eyes felt wet and no longer like they had sand in them. I closed my eyes like he asked. So far I am impressed with the way I am able to see. The light doesn’t bother me and I can see movement, something I wasn’t able to do before. “ Guys, I want your help with this next part. Could you stand in front of the bed. You to Silvey. But don’t say anything.” I guess they are doing it because I hear the shuffling of boots and shoes.

“ Now Lilly, I want you to open your eyes. I want you to look in front of you and tell me everything you can see. I want to only use your eyes.” The moment of truth is now here. Will I be able to see at all? Only one way to find out. I open my eyes slowly to adjust to the light and look in front of me. What I see makes me so happy I could cry. “ Lilly, can you tell me what you see if anything?” the doctor asks. “ I see five men, one woman and a dog..” Wow, I can see them. I can’t believe it. I wasn’t able to tell before without using my sense of smell or hearing. “ Good. Now can you tell me anything else you can see? Any details? “ the doctor asks. I can tell by his voice he is excited. He isn’t the only one.

I start crying as I go over the details I can see. “ I can see the black of the guys' kuttes. I can see the blue of her scrubs. I can see the golden brown of the dog's fur.” I laugh. I can see colors. I can’t believe how much I missed colors. “ Keep going, anything else?” I wipe my eyes and take a closer look at the people in front of me. I look at the first guy to my left and look him up and down. I can’t make out all of his features but I know he is smiling but that isn’t the only thing I see. I pointed to him “ You could use a shaved Viper. I can see the dark hair along your chin.” I see his face move “ You can see me?” he asks. “ Sort of.” I say. “ Lilly could you tell me how you knew it was Mr. Viper.

I explain how while it is still a little blurry and I can’t make out defining features. I could make out the basics. His build, his height, the general shape of his face, and his hair and eye color. “ Good. See how many you can identify.” the doctor says. I went to the next in line and took another good look. I wiped my eyes again because I couldn’t stop crying happy tears. “ Hi, Uncle Ace.” “ Little bit.” he choked out, clearly getting emotional. And I went down the line to Goof, and Lug Nut. “ Hi Silvey. It is nice to see you.” I see her wipe her eyes “ Hi, Lilly.” I saved the best for last. I smiled so big I was hurting my face but I couldn’t help it. I wanted to have a little fun with him but it looked like he was about to lose his mind so I took mercy on him.

“ Hey, honey. Do I still get to kiss you anytime I want?” Tank charged the bed, almost knocking the doctor out of the way. He leaned down and kissed me short and sweet but contained so much love it made my heart beat faster. “ Yes, anytime you want.” He smiled. I placed my hand on his cheek, “ Still handsome as ever when you smile.” We both laugh but are interrupted by a bark and paws on the bed. I rub the top of his head and say “ It is nice to see you Harley.” He barks in response, getting a laugh from all of us. This day has been great so far but I get the feeling it is going to get better.
