When Lilly told me she was pregnant I could help but shout out in joy. “ Brothers, can you believe it? I'm going to be a daddy. Lilly is making me a daddy.” My brothers come up and congratulate me and hug Lilly. Lilly laughs at my reaction and asks “ I take it you are happy with my news.” I pull her and hug her tight and kiss the hell out of her. When I hear her grunt I realize I’m squeezing her too tight and let go. “ I’m sorry sweetheart. Did I hurt you? Is the baby ok?” Lilly giggles “ We are fine. I promise.” I sigh in relief “ Good. And to answer your question. I’m over the moon about the baby.” Lilly leans into me for comfort like she does when she is stressed.
“ Are you sure? I know we didn’t plan to have kids so soon.” I sit Lilly on a stool not wanting her to be on her feet too long. “ Lilly, I know we didn’t plan this. But that is ok. You were on birth control and still got pregnant. So I figured it was meant to be.” I told her. She smiles at me and rubs my cheek.” My gruff biker still has a way with words.” Now she was relaxed about how I would take the news. I had a bunch of questions. So I shot them off rapid fire. “ How far along are you? Do you know what is it? Is the baby ok? How many are there? Do you need anything? Are you having cravings? What about morning sickness?’
“ Honey, take a breath and slow down. One question at a time. The first answer is I’m two months along.” Two months. We have been married for two months. “ So you got pregnant on our honeymoon?” “ That’s what the doctor thinks, yes. Kinda romantic I think.” Lilly says. Then she answers my other questions. The baby is fine. Too early to find out what we are having. We are only have one we think but when we have an ultrasound we will find out for sure. She didn’t need anything right now. No cravings so far, same with morning sickness.
Lilly explained that she was in good health; she just needed to take prenatal vitamins. She needed to eat regularly and get plenty of rest. Avoid stress. It was still safe to exercise and have sex. Merigold assured me it was all standard stuff. Axel and Rowdy said they would be there if I wanted advice or had questions which I appreciate. Lilly didn’t hear it but I vowed that I was going to go to every appointment. I was going to be by her side through the craving and hormones. I was going to be by her side when our baby comes into this world holding her hand and encouraging her the whole time. I don’t care if it is a boy or a girl as long as both Lilly and the baby are healthy.
I was going to be the best daddy I could be. I would help with late night feedings and diaper changes. I was going to be there for all the firsts. Steps, solid foods, words, day of school, and even the first heart break. I was going to help them ride their first bike. Regular and motor. I was going to be there for all the important events. Birthdays, Christmas, Easter, school events you name it. And the not so important events. I wanted to be there for story time and chase the monsters away. I hoped this baby was just the first but I wasn’t going to tell Lilly that.
