CHAPTER 23: SHAMELESS

Flora was speechless and then happy when she saw Krystal. She really looked so beautiful that her head was already plotting on making her part of the family. How nice will it be if she were to marry into her family?

Flora quickly hugged Krystal and dragged her to where her family was. Krystal could only smile and indulge this friend of hers since she was aware that she couldn’t win against her.

“Ummm, you don’t stop to shock this lady K. you look beautiful today,” Annie complimented Krystal with a genuine smile.

She couldn’t help but feel some envy towards this young girl. She could tell that the brand that Krystal was wearing was something she had never seen before but it felt familiar with the gowns that Krystal bought for her last time.

“Thank you very much. I didn’t want to embarrass you so I spent quite a lot,” Krystal spoke shyly and this made the family chuckle at her honesty.

“This is quite good, those people will surely hurt when they see you,” Annie spoke while nodding her head. One could tell the sinister hidden within them as she spoke those words.

Krystal had seen Emerald before and this meant that the Holmes had invited them. This banquet was surely going to be quite fun. Since she was already with the birthday lady, she decided to give out her present before the whole ruckus started.

She didn’t want to give it out when everyone was trying to fawn over Annie but most importantly, she didn’t want people knowing about her pills. She was too lazy to defend herself against some greedy wolves.

“I brought you a small gift, I hope that you will like it,” Krystal said with a smile as she took out the jade bottle from her handbag.

“You didn’t have to, you just being here is enough,” Annie said politely but she was anticipating her present. What was hiding in that small bottle exactly?

Krystal simply chuckled and passed the bottle to her.

“Mom quick and open it. What is it?” Flora couldn’t hide her curiosity anymore.

She was fully aware of how miraculous the things that Krystal takes out were. When she was hurt last time, she was surprised when she was told that someone had used high-quality medicine to treat her and she was fit as a bull.

She remembered drinking some sour medicine the day Krystal saved her which meant that Krystal must have that godly medicine that even the doctor was frantic about.

When the jade bottle was opened, they could all smell the fragrance emitting from the bottle. When Annie took out the contents of the bottle she was taken back when she saw the round yellow pills.

“Krystal what kind of pills are these?” Annie couldn’t help but ask curiously.

“They are called beauty pills, I could only get those five but I promise you that within a month you will see the results,” Krystal assured her.

“They have such effect?”

“Umm they have. I have taken some myself and I am in the process of seeing some changes,” Krystal said as she touched her face.

She hasn’t even started taking those pills but she had to make up a lie, after all, she was changing and the changes needed a reason.

“No wonder why you look like this. I really love these pills a lot,” Annie beamed up when she looked at Krystal.

“Take one a week and you will love yourself later.”

“This is the greatest gift ever,” Annie spoke like a child who had been given her favorite candy making Krystal beam up.

Flora was glaring at her mother with discontent and she saw it.

“Why are you sulking?”

“Give me one!”

“Hell no, this is mine and I will not give you any,” Annie rejected her daughter so quickly that both Flora and Krystal were shocked.

Since Flora had been rejected, she looked at Krystal with a wronged look.

“Why are you glaring at me like that?”

“Can you give me one?”

“There are hard to get but I guess I will find some next month and by then I will make sure I get you one,” Krystal said with a comforting tone.

She didn’t want anyone knowing that she had a huge supply of this kind of pills after all.

“You promise!”

“Yes, I do.”

After five minutes the three left the room and joined the rest of the guests in the hall. Flora was stuck to Krystal like glue and she didn’t feel like anything was wrong. She didn’t even see the envy looks that the other young teenage girls gave Krystal as the two walked with each other while laughing here and there.

These girls didn’t even know that it was not Krystal that was a leech but this belle who kept on pestering her until she gave up. Krystal was very confident that within a year she will be richer than the Holmes but she wasn’t going to burn the bridge after crossing it.

Since she had received help on opening the boutique, she was not in a hurry to have the Holmes know about her ambitious side of starting that huge corporation. She was someone who was aiming to lie low and if she were to expose herself then the questions will be raised of how she was earning her money and that will be troublesome.

Soon the banquet commences, she sat next to Flora as many speeches were made, she could only smile, nod her head and clap here and there. The cake was cut and presents were given out.

Since she had already given her present, she didn’t bother herself much but sat there and watched as people competed.

There were several fascinating gifts that were presented. Because of her discerning jade eyes, she could tell how genuine the gifts were. People surely do anything and everything to gain the favor of those that had power.

Finally, it came time for them to eat, so she and Flora both went to where the food is and began to fill their plates. Krystal was someone who really didn’t care about face, so she served herself the food that she felt like eating. What was the point of pretending to be virtuous and elegant when everyone can talk about your character with just one look?

Satisfied with her plate, Krystal returned back to the table and began to eat. The two young girls were busy eating their food while ignoring everything around them.

Krystal perked her ears up and smirked when she heard a very funny conversation. It seemed like her little sister didn’t learn even after all that she had gone through. She surely had guts and she applauded her for it.

“If something happens, don’t butt in,” Krystal said her words directed at Flora who was enjoying her chicken.

“Is someone plotting against you again?”

“Just some child games, you don’t have to worry about it.”

Since Krystal had assured her, she felt better but she wasn’t going to keep this low this time. So, after eating she went to her mother and reported everything Annie was very furious when she heard about this but she knew that as long as she doesn’t make her family stance clear then those people will keep on slandering this new goddaughter of hers.

So, Annie went back to the podium which made everyone quiet down as they all waited for what Annie wanted to speak about.

“Thank you once again for coming to this birthday of mine, it brings me joy to see that many of you still remember this woman. Today is a very big day not just for me but for the Holmes family. A lot of things had happened lately both sad and happy.

Let’s not talk about the sad things but the happy ones. It is with great honor that I announce to the world that the Holmes family will be adopting a goddaughter into the family. This young lady had brought joy not only to my beloved daughter but everyone in this family,” Annie spoke with pride showing on her face and everyone could tell just how happy this stoic woman was when she spoke about this goddaughter.

Many people were so curious but some were already guessing about this person’s identity before she was introduced.

“My dear Flo, please bring your god-sister to the front,” Annie smiled at her daughter who quickly did as she was instructed.

Shocked faces appeared when they saw Krystal walking elegantly to the front with a smile on her face.

“Why is it her? Why, why, why?” Emerald dug her nails into her palms as she watched Krystal going to the front.

She felt relieved when she saw the look on her mother’s face. So, what if she becomes their goddaughter? She was just an unwanted daughter from her family and she was going to let the world know about her crimes.

“I can’t believe that they took someone with a criminal record as their goddaughter,” everyone could hear the disdain from Emerald loyal follower’s tone.

She spoke a bit low but several people heard it and thanks to that, the flames were fanned up. It didn’t take long before Krystal past crimes surfaced once more and the person in question was busy standing by Annie’s side as if the issue didn’t concern her.
