CHAPTER 29: SCHOOL CLOSES

Exams finally came to an end and while the students waited for the results to come out, they busied themselves with trips, parties, and club activities. During that period K was busy looking through her messages which came as a huge surprise to her.

She had become very famous while she was busy, this made her truly happy. There were so many requests for songs that made her headache from all the reading. What really surprised her most was personal messages from her idol of two lives. J wanted to meet her; how can she not be happy when hearing this?

Since schools were closing, she decided to accept this meeting after all it wasn’t every day that you get to meet your idol one on one and spend some time together.

This was a rare opportunity that she wasn’t going to let go of. She was going to dress beautifully and meet her idol. It would be good if she can maintain some friendship under the pretense of providing songs, wouldn’t it be?

K replied to J’s messages and decided to meet him in three weeks, she even gave him her number for easy contact. She had decided to visit the mountains for spirit stones hunting first before visiting Valletta. Her company was about to open and she needed to be there in person to see the wonders that Paula had done.

Seeing J not responding she didn’t feel disappointed as she was aware that the other was busy promoting his album that had come out. She bought an album for Hand in Hand and it is sung more beautifully than the originals. She even set one of the songs as her ringing tone, she had this inkling that she wasn’t the only one.

K continued to reply to other messages and promised them that she will get back to them as she wanted to screen them out. She didn’t want someone with a black reputation to sing her songs. The reputation of an artist can affect those that are affiliated with him or her, after all, people are living in a world of connections.

She spent an hour screening the messages before she went to the school’s library to read some books. The library was very quiet as she was the only person reading when people were supposed to be playing and having some fun.

Most of the kids at Riverdale hail from wealthy families where they got raised with a silver spoon. They didn’t have to do anything but simply ask and it was given to them. In both lives she wasn’t that lucky, she had to work harder than the rest to achieve her goals and live a life of luxury.

In both lives, she didn’t have parents that could take care of her even though that fate changed with her being adopted by the Holmes. But would she have been adopted if she didn’t save their lovely daughter back then? If she was someone who was useless, would that have happened?

If she had not saved Mr. Macy that time, she would have not been enrolled in Riverdale at all. So, K understood greatly that as long as she wants to live a high life she needed to work hard.

Just because she managed to start a company by using most of the money that she had earned didn’t make her someone, for a company was easy to go bankrupt at any time. And if that happens then she will be left with nothing.

What she needed was to make a lot of money that no one will step on her. In her previous life, because she lacked the power and money, she ended up going to prison for a crime she didn’t commit and ended up dying. This time she was going to live to the fullest while making money so that nothing of that sort may happen to her again.

A few days later the results finally came out, they all sat in their respective chairs as they received their reports and exam papers back. So, for the first half day, they received their exam papers and the latter half was for the reports.

Krystal didn’t let them down as she took the first position in her class and number twenty in the whole grade which was a great improvement. The teachers praised her for working hard and she smiled in return.

What really made her happy was the fact that her classmates improved making the whole class’ marks to be higher than before. Mr. Robert was happy with this outcome that for the first time that hateful teacher gave her a genuine smile.

In the afternoon the whole school had to listen to the last words of the school Principal, the day when the second term will start, and reminders for those that should go for vacation school.

K and Flo were part of those students that didn’t need to redeem themselves during the vacation so they were safe.

At the end of the day, the two god sisters hooked their arms and happily went to the car that was waiting for the two of them. K was supposed to spend some time at the Holmes family for a few days before she leaves for Valletta.

What the two never expected was to be stopped before they could go anywhere by very shameless people.

K scoffed at the pair of mother and daughter and felt disgusted towards them. These two have never done anything for her and only stomped on her daily, driving the original K to suicide. So, what was the real reason for them to be here now?

“Now that you have climbed your way into the Holmes, you think you are all high and mighty?” Mary Reid, K’s mother sneered at her. K could see the hate in the woman’s eyes and she really couldn’t pinpoint the real reason why she hated her own child.

Mary was the one who gave birth to K and yet it was as if she was looking at some enemy. She needed to get to the bottom of this issue, and the only way she could do it was by conducting a DNA test against both parents. The best people for the job were those hooligans of hers she had set aside after their interaction.

“I wonder what I owe this visit to Mrs. Reid,” K decided to attack them differently.
Since they wanted to humiliate her by degrading her then she was just going to faint some ignorance as if she wasn’t aware of what these two were up to.

“Umphh, is that the way you speak to your mother? How the hell where you raised?” Mary raised her voice once more, attracting many spectators to where they were.

“I no longer have a mother. The mother that I know of passed away years ago. The mother that embraced me, loved me, and showered me with all the love and care I needed did all her best even though she isn’t here with me,” K dragged her words so that everyone can hear her clearly.

“You….”

“When I needed the mother figure the most, what did you do? You threw me away, tarnished my name, and did so many despicable things that I can’t even talk about, and today just because the Holmes have eyes and adopted me into their family, you come all the way here to drag my name once more into the mud? Just what kind of a mother are you?”

“Krystal, behave yourself! Is that the way you speak to mom now that you are adopted by the Holmes?”

“Hahahaha, you think that I am latching onto the Holmes that badly? With my abilities, I don’t need to latch onto anyone. Just like how I survived when you and Mr. Reid, I can still survive and my life will be better than you. Since you are so determined to tarnish me today then let me tell you a secret,” K spoke lowly at the end of the speech and walked closer to Mary.

“The child that you abandoned back then Krystal died a week after she was released out of jail. I am someone that you shouldn’t provoke. Killing people is like squashing ants to me and for someone who is so selfish and idiotic like you, it won’t take me a second before I ruin you.

If you think that I am lying, then ask your beloved daughter about that wonderful incident that left her drained months ago when she tried to get those trashy gangsters to violate me?”

With every word she spoke, Mary could feel that what this girl was saying was the truth. For the first time in her life, she felt fear and scared. She felt like wetting her pants but that would be embarrassing for her.

She should have known when her daughter changed that she was no longer the one. The Krystal that she knew was a coward and was desperate for her family’s attention and yet this Krystal in front of her was someone she couldn’t even look at without feeling fear.

“Mom, what did she tell you?” Emerald asked Mary who looked pale as if she had seen a ghost.

Seeing her mother not responding, she turned her head towards Krystal who was the cause of this.

“I was just telling her about ….” She finished the rest of the sentence by her heart making Emerald pale just her mother.

The spectators couldn’t believe the outcome of this drama. Everyone could tell that the pair of shameless mother and daughter had lost judging by how stricken they looked.

“It would be wise if the two of you go back home, it is our closing day and we would like to show the term’s results at home,” Flora finally spoke up after seeing how smooth K solved the issue.

She had no idea what she did but she had a sense of reverence towards her. Just what did she say to the pair of mother and daughter to make them look that way? What kind of vital information did she have on the two to make them shut up and look that ghostly?

K in the end dragged Flora with her to the car and drove off. What happened to the pair of shameless people wasn’t any of her concern anymore?
