CHAPTER 24: SHAMELESS (II)
“You mustn’t be fooled by that b***h; she just wants to latch on you!” Emerald finally exploded as she saw that she was being ignored after everything she had done.
This outburst attracted everyone’s attention but Elvis Reid, Krystal’s father didn’t look good after her daughter did that. He knew just what kind of impression she was making on such a big day.
“And can you exactly tell us what you mean by that?” Annie asked patiently as if she wasn’t aware of what everyone was speaking about.
She was on the verge of sapping that girl’s neck and tossing her out of her mansion but she was going to be patient and teach that manner less family some manners.
“She is a criminal; she spent a year in juvie for assault and stalking. She is always latching herself on rich people. I am afraid that you may be fooled by her,” Emerald spoke proudly as she saw how people began to have another view towards the goddess they had been admiring.
Krystal simply chuckled as she listened to her younger sister blackening her. Was she a fool? How could she not be able to read the atmosphere? Was she able to take on the weight of ruining such a huge banquet?
Krystal only felt pity for this sister and hoped that Annie could teach her a lesson because if she were to do it then this time, she will totally ruin her and Reid’s family.
People were murmuring all over, some were busy looking at the articles related to Krystal but what surprised them was the fact that the person being accused was quiet and didn’t seem to care for a single bit. This made Emerald grit her teeth in anger, why was she being so pompous about when people were degrading her like this?
When she thought about what she suffered soon after she sent those goons to Krystal, she was so eager to ruin every chance that Krystal has. If she couldn’t have it then Krystal was not fit to get it either.
“Is this the only reason why we shouldn’t take her in as our goddaughter?” Annie calmly asked Emerald probing for more.
“She is also a thief and un-filial, someone like that shouldn’t be part of the Holmes,” Emerald spoke proudly and happy as she throws Krystal’s reputation into the mud.
“And who are you exactly to know this?”
“I am her younger sister and it really pains me to see that this kind of person is my older sister. Whatever she does brings a disaster.”
Emerald just kept on blabbering, feeling proud of herself as she kept on exposing these facts to the crowd. Annie was quiet for a bit before she put a smile on her face.
“I really thought that you will humble yourself and see the bigger picture but I guess you still are as shameless as I heard you be!” Annie suddenly exploded and people weren’t fools to see that the rage was directed towards Emerald who had done a great deed of exposing her sister to the Holmes.
“W-w-what...” she didn’t even get to finish before she was cut by a furious Annie.
“To think that what I have suspected all this time was true, I can’t believe that there still exists parents and siblings that treat their own as if she was someone picked from the street. I am very aware of every single thing that Krystal did, how she was sent to juvie for assaulting that girl.
I am also aware of who testified to that horrendous incident and how you the Reid's kicked out your own daughter when she was just out of juvie. Instead of fighting for your own daughter’s rights and comforting her, you threw her under the bus,” everyone could see just how angry Annie was as she pointed at the Reid family that had their face down because of embarrassment.
“Not only did you abandon your own child to a relative, but you also didn’t take care of her and condemned her in the end. Every single cent that was spent on her wasn’t even yours so why did you exactly treat a child that just needed your love like that?
I won’t teach you how you behave in your own homes but in this compound, I am the matriarch and my word is the law. Someone like you is not allowed to question my decision simply because of jealousy.
I called you here today to tell you in person that this young lady that you discarded and disowned as if you were ever her parents now have the protection of the Holmes and whoever tries anything funny will be dealt with according.
The case that sent her to juvie will be left alone since she doesn’t want to have the issue investigated again,” Annie spoke to the guests who were now quiet.
So many questions were in these guests’ minds. They could tell that this was just another drama unfolding. For a family like the Holmes, they weren’t easy to fool which means that they investigated the case before otherwise, they wouldn’t be officially adopting Krystal as their own with her background.
Emerald’s face was green and then white, she couldn’t believe that this didn’t work and that she got herself in trouble and dragged her family into it too. She looked at her mother and then a father who looked so crimson with anger. She could tell that this time, she had really gone overboard and doomed.
She glared at Krystal who kept her smile from the start to the end as if she wasn’t the victim. Emerald really wanted to tear her apart. How could she remain unaffected like this? Why was it her in the end?
“I am very sorry about my daughter’s behavior, I will discipline her when we return home,” Elvis Reid apologized to Annie when he saw that they wouldn’t go anywhere if he didn’t lower himself this time.
“You better keep your child in check. It would be very unbecoming if this were to happen again,” Annie spoke with a smile on her face as if she was satisfied with the way that Elvis had surrendered.
During the fight, Annie’s husband or her sons didn’t interfere. Who didn’t know about her temper? It was unwise to interrupt her as it will only bring wrath on you and that was something one shouldn’t do.
Krystal smirked as she looked at the pathetic parents of the original host. It was only for a moment but they saw her and that was exactly what she wanted.
“Since this hurdle had passed, let me continue with the announcement. Like I said previously Krystal from today will become this Holmes’ goddaughter and no one will rebuke.”
“Congratulations.”
“Congratulations.”
“Congratulations.”
“Congratulations.”
People’s attitudes were very quick to change; Krystal could only shake her head inwardly. People were always fickle and fake, which was the reason why she didn’t make friends in her previous life. In this life, if it wasn’t because of Flora’s perseverance, she would have not befriended her at all.
Flora quickly hugged her but she could see the tears in her eyes. K didn’t cry when she was being blackened and yet this belle cried for her. How could she not feel grateful for such a genuine friend?
Krystal patted her back and whispered against her ear, “this small thing can never bring me down. One day these people will be crawling and begging for mercy. All you need to do is just wait and see.”
Flora lit up when she heard that and tears freely flowed down her cheeks making her flush with embarrassment.
“I will wait for the day then, don’t abandon me when the time comes,” she pouted while looking at her.
Krystal found her very funny and cute seeing her acting like this. She could only embrace her tighter and assure her that she was her friend over and over again. No, she corrected herself, she was now her sister and that brought some warmth in her.
It felt good having a younger sister like Flora who was genuine towards her not like that snake Emerald who schemed against her every single chance that she gets.
The banquet ended happily; the Reid’s were totally shamed that Elvis for the first-time slapped Emerald when they returned back to the villa. Emerald was punished after that slap by having her credit cards confiscated and grounded for three months.
Unless she was at school then she won’t be going anywhere. This made Emerald who was used to being pampered, throw things on the floor and bawled her eyes out. Not only did she not repent but she even put the whole blame on Krystal who was busy performing the ritual of becoming the goddaughter of the Holmes.
Her name was added to the genealogy of the Holmes making her family to them. She had however refused to get her last name changed to Holmes as she still wanted to repay her adoptive mother Portia Macy who had raised her when she was alone and abandoned.
The Holmes understood this and didn’t push her more. That night the two teenage girls shared the same room for bed even though Annie had prepared a bedroom for Krystal just in case she comes.
Krystal had also refused to move into the Holmes mansion, for someone who had a number of secrets it was indeed unwise for her to live with such a huge family.
When she went to bed, she was wearing a smile as she felt lighter than before.
The original host had disappeared for good now that she saw her pathetic family
being embarrassed while being among the elite. They loved face a lot but now they have lost it, what more can the original want?
